Let's say your team is Down 25 points to start the 4th quarter, and you had the choice to pick any 5 current players to bring you back and win the game?
Which players would you choose?

I'm assuming you mean on an individual basis and not a team. Otherwise we'll all just say extremely similar versions of: Dwight-Dirk-LeBron-Wade-Paul.

In terms of singular players who can carry a team back with scorching hot 4th quarters I'll go:

Melo
Dirk
Wade
Jamal Crawford
Ben Gordon

Honorable Mention:
Paul Millsap
Tracy McGrady

Cal827

PF: Lebron James (charge the net, slow down the clock, free throws)
SG: Ray Allen (3's become much more valuable here too)
SF: Andre Igoudala (Need Defenders to stop the bleeding too, right lol, also he's a decent scorer)
PG:Rondo (Defender and set up things)
C -Dirk (scorer from Everywhere)

Well they all would be on a team, so you have to think of guys you think you could mesh together that could overcome that deficit.

PG: Jason Kidd (even though he's up there in age, he makes the right passes in tough situations and can knock down the 3)

SG: Ray Allen (Great transition 3 point shooter, can come off the ball screen)

SF: LeBron James (great defender, best transition player in the NBA, but wouldn't trust him at the FT line)

PF: Dirk (guy is just filthy when it comes to iso situations in the post, can back any PF down, fade with that 1 leg in the air and make a basket)

C: Dwight Howard (defensive presence, can rebound, outlet the ball and set nice screens)

Oh you did want a team. I think it's more interesting to bring up which shooters can get hot and make a crazy run. Honestly, I think anyone would be crazy to not just pick the 5 best players in the game. You could make some arguments about Durant vs. LeBron etc. but you'd want Dwight-Paul definatley and then some combo of Wade-LeBron-Durant-Dirk.

See you might take Dwight mainly for defense to stop them from scoring. So you may want guys who can score and play defense.

lebron (can get you quick scores on the break and is a great defender)
ray allen ( he can drop them threes like water when hes on)

Which players would you choose?

1. Kobe Bryant (As far back as the 3peat teams with O'Neal, he DID lead the team back from at least one 25-point 4th quarter deficit, and at least half a dozen or so of 15 points or more... plus he's the only NBA player in history to have scored 30 points in a quarter twice.)
2. Carmelo Anthony
3. Tie: Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant

You mention what Rose did, but Lebron in the most important series of his life got outplayed by a guy coming off the bench. Also we know Rose does well with other stars on the team, too bad in Chicago he didn't have that. Lebron had superstars on his team a few times in the Olympics and FIBA and ended up with bronze medals while Rose got gold on his first try.

Jason Kidd - Great defender, passer, controls the tempo.

Yeah I don't understand why you'd want the best player on the planet playing what is he thinking.......but in all seriousness, it doesn't mean he has to take every shot, thats why there are players such as Dirk and Ray Ray on his list...what LeBron brings to the table without even taking a shot is more valuable than what most players can bring.

PG Steve Nash
SG Ray Allen
SF Kevin Durant
PF Kevin Love
C Dwight Howard

Nash because of his dishing abilities, plus he's one of the best shooters in the history of the NBA.
Ray Allen to help stretch the floor for Howard, and to hit 3s (because you're going to need them).
No LeBron because he sucks in the fourth, so Durant.
Love for his rebounding, scoring, and 3 point shooting. Stretches the floor even more.
Speaking of Howard, he's in for his defense and easy baskets and rebounding.

There shouldn't be any offensive rebounding against this team, and they should be able to hit 3s at a high clip. Nash can create shots for Allen and Love on the 3 point line. Durant too. Durant can create his own shots. Howard should have an easy time under the basket -- with this team, they can't afford to double anyone.

I like this team.

PG - Jason Kidd (High BBIQ, thinks pass first, second, maybe 3rd but can hit the 3. Defends well with size)

SG - Kobe Bryant (One the best all-time clutch players, knack for big shots and composure. Gets to the line)

SF - Kevin Durant (Unselfish superstar who enjoys big moments. Scores in multiple methods, high efficiency shooter. Great length and runs the floor very well.)

PF - Dirk Nowitzki (Another unselfish superstar willing to take big time shots in huge moments, but also knows how to pass and be effective to help the team win)

C - Dwight Howard (Easily league's best center. Changes the game defensively and his rebounding will grant his team several second chance opportunities. Doesn't need to score much on post-ups)

Wade (one of the best at drawing fouls out of nowhere)
Allen (shooting purposes)
Kobe (the best clutch player)
James (he's gonna be the one that pulls the game close)
Dirk (what can't he hit?)

When in clutch situations, I'd sub Lebron out and put in Duncan (don't care he's old and slow, still a big defensive presence and a danger during clutch situations).

So I'm going with 3 shooting guards and 2 power forwards to finish the game. And yes, I left Lebron out from the end. He settles for some weird and unnecessary shots way too often.

He's a freight train and will get to the free throw line. He'll be getting lobs from Nash, and his on the ball defense will be great. And at the end of the day, you have the 2 most feared players in the league on the same team. KB and LeBron.

This team could score any way it wanted to - fastbreak, spot up shooting, in the post... you name it and they're great at it. Dirk would be perfect to have with Nash. Plus I don't want my C to take up too much space in the paint on offense when LeBron and Wade should be attacking the basket regularly.

Defensively it wouldn't be the greatest, but I think it would be more than good enough.

CP3- can set up everybody else and hit shots as well
Ray Allen- three point threat
Lebron James- can drive the lane at will, and draw fouls
Kevin Love- all around great player
Dwight Howard- huge defensive presence and inside scoring

i was split on whether i wanted Durant or Lebron in that SF spot because i think that Durant would benefit more off of a guy like CP3 more than Lebron would and I wanted to pick a good distributing PG, but i ended up sticking with Lebron because he is the best player in the league.

If I had to pick a group of superstars that could mesh well I would go

Steve Nash- Can practically make everyone around him better and can mesh with anyone.

Kobe- Mr. Clutch himself

Kevin Durant- Doesn't need the ball but can take alot of people off the dribble and demands a double team

Dirk- cause he can shoot from anywhere and when he is on.. He is just flat out on. also helps spread the floor.

Kevin Love- He is just an all around kind of guy, helps rebound to get extra possesions, and can put up video game numbers.

Kevin love is an adequate defend, kobe is good and Kd plays good defence, but you cant have all defence when you are trying to come back from 25.

So with the line up a I put, they would play enough team defence and still making the other team guess where the shots are coming from next.

Howard/Dirk/Lebron/Allen/Nash

run the high pick and roll with Lebron/Howard and have Nash/Allen/Dirk spot up. You'd get a layup or open 3 pointer on every possession.

And with Howard/Lebron anchoring it'd be a great defensive team as well.

Yes some players are out of position but if I want to assemble the most clutch, intelligent, and high scoring team possible, I dont think one could disagree with this group. All can go on scoring barrages, all can hit that game winning shot, all have adequate defense, and all are trustworthy when the ball is in their hands.

You still have to play defense, KLove is suspect in the clutch

Down 25 with 12 it's all about getting as many possessions as possible and to do that i want speed, 3 point shooting, and good ball movement to get quick baskets when you are forced into half court play.

You add a true center like Dwight or Bynum and you slow down transition because neither is the passer nor 3pt shooter Love has shown.

Id also have Lebron as my super sub and just run those 6 the whole quarter.

Yeah but I was thinking, a traditional post up Center would slow down possesions which in this case (being down 25 points) I think is unbeneficial. But its what ever I guess.

Yeah I was thinking along those lines, but I decided defense was still important and used Chandler.

Dude is KNOWN for dissapearing and choking in the 4th when it counts. This fact ISNT up for debate.

Again, I'll take the laker team that actually DID THIS over ANY of your picks.

They need to score as well, that's actually more important that gettings stops when talking about great 3 point shooters like dirk and nash and to a lesser extent bargs. Plus Dirk isn't THAT bad of a defender.

There is nothing wrong with taking Dwight or Bynum as they can both score efficiently, but I'm just hung up on the fact that both of them post up to score their points. But with the lineup that i proposed featured Tyson. Reason being while we need his defense, he doesn't waste time whenever he scores which is normally on lobs, tips-in, etc. Scoring in that manner doesn't waste time which allows for more possesions. Basically its like a Suns offense but with better defense.

I don't like Melo+ Kobe here, they are volume shooters and you only have 1 ball and one quarter to come back. You need guys on your team who can score efficiently with few shots to go with those scorers. Otherwise your gonna be left with someone having an off night and either hogging or not getting enough touches to make an impact.

Thats why Harden and Love are so awesome, they can put up alot of points in the flow with few plays called for them.

Any combo gets you back in the game but Harden can score 40 with 17 shots from the field. Thats the kind of efficiency you need from your lesser options.

Rondo - for his scrappy defense, play-making, and big moment savvy.
Kobe - love Kobe, but I've got to hesitate here as he's such a ball stopper, his presence would keep defenses tentative
Tyson Chandler - for his defense, shot blocking, and fire
Kevin Love - for rebounds, hustle, and open shots
Kevin Durant - along with Kobe, his presence would keep the floor wide open

PG - LeBron - yes he can bring the ball up and push the tempo and we all seen him guarding PGs. With his size at this postion he would be like Magic.
SG- Kobe - Clutch. he carried team USA in olympics and he carried Lakers more times than any other player any other team
SF - Durant - this guy can score from anywhere
PF - Nowitzki - Clutch PF whos fadeaway jump shoot is unstoppable.
C - Howard - D plus if they miss he can grab the rebounds !

Also you have to check who you play against. Coz if its a smaller team like a Huston from a year ago you can use CP3 on PG and move LBJ to PF and Dirk to C.

Down 25 in the 4th you have to get up and press so you need on the ball defenders and a semblance of some transition game to get quick buckets.

This team is pressing your ***!!
