MINNEAPOLIS --- Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph will miss up to eight weeks after magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed that he suffered a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, sources with knowledge of the situation told The Commercial Appeal.

The injury will not require surgery and doctors will re-evaluate Randolph in two weeks.

Randolph was believed to only have a bruised MCL. He did not travel with the team for its road game tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He remained in Memphis and is wearing a knee brace.

Randolph suffered the injury after teammate O.J. Mayo inadvertently fell into his legs during the Grizzliesí 40-point loss Sunday at Chicago. Randolph left the game with a minute left in the first quarter and he didnít return.

Last season, Randolph missed four games after suffering a deep tailbone bruise in the season-opener.

So unfortunate... As long as they can stay afloat seeding (as we saw last year) should not matter too much. Better it happen now then in April

Just horrible for the Grizz. Gay really needs to take the next leap with him out. Grizz were expected to finish with a top four seed, but I just don't think so anymore.

...aaand that's why they traded for Speights.

No big problem.

Is the reverse situation than last year, randolph instead of gay, out of the line up.

They work better this way, theres only place for one ballhog at a time in a team if you want to get wins.

As a fan of the NBA, this really sucks, as the guy was a joy to watch in the playoffs. As a fan of the Rockets, I'm licking my chops to think of the lead they could have on Memphis by the team he gets back. Still... when you think about their roster with Gay, Mayo, Gasol, Conley, Allen and now possibly Speights, that roster could keep these team hovering around .500 until he gets back if they stay healthy and play out of their minds.

Losing him right after losing Arthur though REALLY thins out their front court. If they get into a rough stretch where they have to play really good bigs, they're going to be in trouble.

Damn that sucks. Hope he heals fast and comes back strong. Memphis will be alright bc they're a good team.

I'm just glad it isn't worse.. I thought that it was an ACL tear which would mean season. Still, sucks for Memphis.

Man the Grizzs can't caught a break. He should be back and in full swing when the playoffs roll around. I think that Memphis is clearly a playoff team without Z-Bo this should just affect seeding.

I could see an OJ Mayo trade coming soon.

Edit: Maybe not, didn't see they traded Henry for Speights.

Well it defintily sucks but we should be ok. As for whoever asked who is starting now your answer is Dante Cunningham. The addition of Speights and Hadaddi (once he gets his work visa) should help strengthen the frontcourt. And to Hellcrooner: This is Marcs chance to score 20+ and grab 10+ boards every game.

It's kinda good news considering how bad it looked. Hopefully it doesn't hurt the Grizz so bad that miss the playoffs. If it doesn't, it's really not that big of an injury.
