Where do you guys rank him among the other PG's in the league?

25 years old.

Averaged 16.8 PPG, 7.3 APG, and 4.5 RPG after the All-Star Break (since he has started in place of Brooks).

Added a 3-pt shot to his game.

First two games this year he put up:

20 pts, 12 asts, 7 rbs, 1 st against ORL in 36 minutes

16 pts, 8 asts, 9 rbs, 3 st against SAS in 27 minutes

He's a great defender and hustle's like crazy out there.
Plus he's got a great contract at $18 million/3 years.

IMO he's top 5 in the West. Would get more media attention on another team. I think this kid is amazing.

doubt he will keep it up

16-7-4 after the All-star break.. And he has nobody he can throw easy alley-oops to all day.

Hope he keeps it up, both of my fantasy teams have been happy this year. He's a beast on both ends.

I have been lobbying for 2 years for the guy down here in Houston. Hate to tute my own horn, but I called it forever ago, and have said since June he is my personal favorite for MIP this season, and a stud PG. Best man to man defensive PG in the NBA, increasing range, ability to run an offense and make the right pass. He will be a top 5-7 PG this season.

He was always very highly regarded, even back in Memphis, just never got a chance to take the lead. Now it's his time, and I agree - top 5-7 PG sounds about right for Lowry this year.

I've been saying this for a while too.

I don't see why someone would say, "doubt he can keep it up". He's been doing this for a while now. Sit back and enjoy, don't hate.

I remember watching one of his first games in Memphis against Orlando he completely destroyed them. Then a couple of games later he broke his wrist.

I hope he can get more media attention.

Lots of PG's are having very good starts, and I suspect it's because defenses are sloppy right now. PG's have the ball in their hands, so it's easy for them to exploit the openings as they happen. I'm not down on Lowry at all, I wanted the Pacers to trade for him at one point and I'm glad Houston got him. But here's some stat llines to keep it in perspective:

Darren Collison went for 10pts, 11asts.
Ty Lawson had 25pts, 4rbs, 3asts, and 8stls in one game, and 27pts, 4rbs, 4asts, 3 stls in another.
DJ Augustin has gone for 20pts, 5rbs, 6asts in one game, and 19pts, 8asts in another.
Jose Calderon had a game of 15pts, 11ats, 6rbs.
Jarret Jack went for 21pts, 4rbs, 9asts, a steal and 2blks one game, and 24pts, 6rbs, 6asts, 3stls in another.
Brandon Jennings had a game of 24pts 7asts, and a game of 22pts, 4asts.
Brandon Knight wqent for 23pts, 6asts off the bench.
Kemba Walker went for 13pts, 7rbs, 3asts off the bench.
Norris Cole had 20pts, 4rbs, 4asts, 3stls off the bench.

Everyone needs to remember, Lowry is also an ELITE defender at the PG position. Big enough to not get brushed off, and fight through picks. Laterally quick enough to stay with the speedy guards. Quick hands and great anticipation skills that allow him to force difficult passes.

He is very good. The only untouchable on the Rockets imo, unless it nets a star in their prime.

but this isnt based off just 2 games. almost every rockets fan knows it would be asinine to do that. it's cause he's done this ever since becoming a starter really. like they said 16/7/5 since the all-star break last year

Best defensive PG in the league last season if you asked me. Quality player who is only going to continue to grow as a player. Can certainly see him cracking the top 10 PGs as early as this season. I don't think his ceiling is very high (perennial all star calibre) but I do think he can be an extremely important part on any success the Rockets may have.

Agreed, he's been great for some time and hugely undervalued by the national media, but not by basketball heads. Him and Ty Lawson are in the same vein there.

He also doesn't turn the ball over and is a rebounding machine(for a PG). He's also got great work ethic and really strives to improve. He worked real hard on his 3 point shot and is becomeing deadly from down town.

I remember a few of the ***** that were mad when the Rox essentially traded Rafer for him. That didnt last long. Whats more ridiculous is that the Magic once again showed their lack insight by taking Rafer instead of him.

I used to love going to Rox games, and watching the trainwreck that was Rafer lead a 3-1 fastbreak. I would just start laughing, because you know the 24 foot pullup is coming.

score first PG who actually had a good opening 4-5 games before he hoisted that half court attempt at halftime and rolled the **** out of his ankle. Lowry was so good in his absence, that when he came back, he couldn't get himself back in the rotation. And rightly so.

Jeremy Pargo is another Memphis PG that is getting a chance and, so far, has proved he is capable. Any chance if he proves he is a quality PG while Conley is out then a team in need of a PG would try to trade for him and give him a chance?

The Lakers could use a new PG.

You have a good point about the steals some are getting, but all of those players have gotten stats like that before or are rookies. It isn't unfathomable at all IMO. The only real surprise is Jack's but he is a starter now I assume. Collison was a beast while CP3 was out. I assume Indy just doesnt use him correctly because he could get way more assists in the right system.

Always said he was a good player. Good on defense (though no one appreciated that because of his DRtg which gets higher cuz of Kmart) and can rebound, pass and score.

i was hoping the cavs would have got him last season in free agency.. always liked him when everyone else out here didn't know his name. but then again, ramon sessions is averaging 17-5.5-6 in 25 minutes a game off the bench. and shooting 50% from behind the arch. so i'm not too displeased.

ive been saying Lowry for a while now and also Eric Maynor but Lowry starts for them so I think maynor couled be had easier

Edit: OKC is my 2nd favorite team and I just love how they built via young guns and just nice pieces...They need a vet presence though...I would try and deal TD/jeffries'/balman and a future 2nd for Maynor and cole aldrich

I always liked him in Memphis. The reason he was let go is because he was pushing Conley too much for the starting nod. The big whigs just couldnt allow a 24th overall pick (Lowry) start in front of a 4th overall pick (conley).

No he's not he's in China. My point being that given the way Kyle Lowry has been playing the last 9+ months he has been showing improvement with virtually every game played. That in itself leads one to believe that he may be in strong contention for the MIP award this season. An award that Aaron Brooks won in 2010 while he was a member of the Rockets.

Posted big numbers again last night in the loss to Memphis. So far through three games, in only 29.4 minutes, he's averaged 17 points, 9.3 assists, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 steals with .484/.308/.895 shooting percentages. For advanced stat geeks like myself, he's posted a ridiculous 33.7 PER, a .336 WS/48 and a .648 TS%. I realize it's only three games, but he's been freaking incredible. If he can even post stats half that impressive, he makes the all star game this year.

Edit: I just checked on basketball reference, and Lowry is third in the entire league right now in PER and WS/48 behind only Lebron and Manu and is second in assists percentage behind only Nash.
