The New York Knicks have claimed guard Jeremy Lin off waivers.

Lin was released Sunday by the Rockets to make roster room for Houston's signing of Samuel Dalembert.

The Rockets had claimed Lin off waivers after he was released by the Golden State Warriors, who had to let him go to create the requisite salary-cap space for a four-year offer sheet worth nearly $43 million to then-restricted DeAndre Jordan that was matched by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Lin is a Bay Area native who played in 29 games last season as a rookie with the Warriors, becoming the NBA's first Asian-American player since 1947.

The Knicks, who last week claimed sharpshooter Steve Novak off waivers, needed another guard after rookie Iman Shumpert suffered a knee injury in New York's Christmas Day win over Boston. New York is also still waiting for recently signed point guard Baron Davis to recover from a back injury in order to thrust him into the starting lineup.

Lin's contract with the Knicks is not guaranteed, so he could be cut at any time.

"Jeremy's just looking for an opportunity to show what he can do," his agent Roger Montgomery said on Tuesday. " And, what better place to do so, than on the biggest stage in basketball?"

I don't get why nobody would give this kid a chance.. I swear he's a decent player if he's just given an opportunity. Wish the Raptors would sign this kid..

I wanted this guy since I saw him own Wall at summer league. With the amount of guards here to learn from, he has the potential to succeed. I hope he can play well on this road trip.

Knicks fans check out this article. I think Lyn is a good pickup and can be a good backup to Douglas or Baron when he comes back.

Funny. If this was a Warriors signing this guy you would be commenting on it. Nice post. Here's a cookie.

Lol this kid is actually decent. He could be like a 7th man if he really improves but he'll probably get cut by the time Baron Davis comes back. And you know half these jokes are because he's Asian-American instead of black or white.

Uh ohhh. Former Mavericks which means he is all of a sudden a hall of famer who our front office let go for nothing....

He showed some real talent in the Summer League. I think he can be a decent backup.

John Walls Era

He owned John Wall in the summer league (obviously not as good, but hes a competitor). His shooting is suspect though, but the form is decent which means he can improve. Surprisingly quick and has good size and vision. Not a great defender, but scappy on D.

I doubt the Knicks are planning to keep him, but he may make things interesting if he plays well.

What can we expect from him stats-wise while Shumpert and Davis are out? When they get back will he just be cut?
