one of the things i hate most about the nba is how sometimes u can go 2-3 days without a game and sometimes 4

also i hate that it starts in october because im still focusing on football then

this seems like a better setup imo

GREATNESS ONE

Nope I like the 82 game season. But this new condensed one is pretty cool too, I just love me some NBA basketball.

Marc Spears mentioned it, but I think the best plan would be to have Xmas day as the opening day for the NBA and have the finals begin on July 4th. Unfortunately, I doubt that would ever happen, but that would be sick. Especially if we could end up having some playoff games outside since it would be the summer then.

I actually love it. More games in a shorter period is great for the fans. There's a good game on every night.

The free agency period was nuts too. Incredibly entertaining.

Then theres the random games where the starters all play 12 minutes.....

I really like it. More back to back games and less rest. Sure we will see more sloppy play, but I play to watch more and have less rest

agreed, but anyone thinking the owners will shorten the season by even one game is dreaming..games = revenue

No one mentioned a shorter season in terms of games. Just a more condensed one.

I like the condensed season. Like another poster said, I hate having to wait 2-4 days sometimes in between games. Plus, the fact that the NBA season spans over like 8 months is kind of ridiculous and really drawn out.

i didn't like the condensed training camp and preseason. it's going to be really sloppy but the playoffs are going to be fantastic.

82 games is kind of ridiculous in the 1st place. i wish they had it like this ever year.

more injuries probably but they get paid millions.

I dont like that teams did not get a decent training camp. Man everybody is turning the ball like crazy. Teams are just finding their rythm.

Yeah, it's basically still preseason. You can't expect every team to be ready after 3 weeks of preparation and only 2 preseason games.

Especially when you have a new coach, like the Lakers, who uses a completely different system. I have to admit I didn't expect them to be that good in the first game though.

I just think the NBA kind of rushed the start of the season due to "revenue reasons", I would have preferred less games and a less condensed schedule.

As a fan I love the idea of a condensed schedule regardless of how many games played to not wait so long between games, but it will lead to more muscle pulls and sprains and fatigue so it is ultimately not a good thing.

kind of hard to bring it down from 82 games because of records etc...

Amount of games played changes over time, this does not include playoffs:

1946 - 47 - 60 games
1947 - 48 - 48 games
1950 - 51 - 66 games
1960 - 61 - 79 games
1964 - 65 - 80 games
1966 - 67 - 81 games
1967 - 68 - 82 games

If you can add games which would impact records as much if not more then shorting seasons you can do whatever you want. Records should not be the deciding factor or even a consideration.

thats only a 20 year span
its been 50 years since we've made a change

Its been 82 games for 44 seasons (not 50) so I didn't feel the need to go beyond that.

Some records are from an era before 82 games so my point stands. Either way it should not be a determining factor.

Everyone is sloppier.

But either way, the Raptors would have lost a lot of games anyways.

Though this does mean Tim Duncan will not be set for the playoffs with his tired legs.

I like the overflow of games...But the play is sloppy early on...
condensed season with a regular training camp works...

this may be true, but some teams that are older may not play their starters as much if they have a long stretch of games. Therefore the product isn't as good.

its still early

selfishly, i love it because we are getting games with an almost mlb-like frequency, although it can't be good for players though as far as fatigue and injuries are concerned. hopefully there are no incidents and we can all enjoy this, but there is certainly increased risk.

I like it from the perspective that we get a ton of basketball in such a short time. But its terrible for the players and I'm sure we will see a dropoff in the minutes played and level played of starters.

Like the OP said, most of my attention is usually on football though.

If you workout you don't workout the same muscles, at least directly, every day. Players should not be playing games that much and that close together, especially since they have to practice too.

the whole players get tired stuff is understandable, but i hate it. ****, they re getting paid millions to play a 2 and a half hour game of basketball. So what if you have to play 4 games in 5 nights? My dad is 42 and he plays 2 hours of sports everynight. Suck it up, its your favourite sport, and no one says you cant rest in between game days + you have all day to do whatever you want., practice, sleep etc.

The only factor that is negative is travelling.

Good thread(for a Jets fan)...

I actually do like it. I always thought there was waaaay too much time between games and that the season always seems to drag on.
