Had the Suns not traded Shaq in the 09-10 season, would that have put them over the Lakers in the WCF?

Suns made a mistake when Joe Johnson was let go. Then getting rid of Marion lead to even more problems. Signing Shaq was a big mistake IMO and lead to the fall.

They didn't sign him, they traded marion for him because marion wanted a max contract, he did play well in the 08-09 season. He probably would have been healthier under the suns training staff

They should have kept Shaq and never hired Porter.

If they would've trade Wallace for Chandler we would have a championship already.

the problem with this post is that it is indeed hinsight. The suns are a team of the past, Dantoni had a genuine great idea with the 3 seconds or less team, that suns teams will never be reproduced, no matter how many free agents he signs in NY. Regardless the suns team now is a lowly shadow of what they used to be, the only player left an aging steve nash. very sad, they had their chance with the 07 team, but the league along with the officials didnt want them to win that year for some reason. guess it just wasnt meant to be.

No trading for Shaq in the first place was the biggest mistake.

We were #1 in the West before we got Shaq then fell to #7 or #8 with him.

He slowed down the offense and was just completely wrong for this team.

Should have traded for Tyson Chandler when we could have or kept Gortat after we drafted him instead of shipping him off to Orlando.

Maybe the trade was a mistake but giving Marion the extension he wanted would have been disastrous given his steep decline.

Also the Suns record was a mirage, their SRS, SOS, and overall efficiency differentials were weakest among the elite. The Suns knew the item was flawed and they didn't want to give Marion the money he wanted so I get the trade. What messed your team up were the moves that came afterwards.

I do think that Shaq wasn't a great fit initially but once he got a year with their staff they rejuvenated his game. Its also true the team plodded along but that was due to Porter. Once Gentry took over, the team and Nash were breaking records they set for pace of play and offensive efficiency .

Then they lost Amare and still had a decent playoff push .

they're lack of defense is what got them in the end.

Is that a joke question?

Suns have bad management IMO getting Shaq in the first place was a dumb move, why have they not traded Nash to a contender..let a super nice guy who is prob to classy to ask to be traded get a chance at a ring and also get some nice pieces back for the future. They resign Grant Hill? uhhh why? hes still got game but is it really gunna help you at all like what direction are they going

Robert Sarver is the worst NBA owner since Stepien

Oh I agree Marion is not a max type player but I think we should have just kept him and let him walk after the season.

Despite the flaws in the Suns, the FO should have known that Shaq wouldn't fit the Suns simply because he's not that mobile. Only guys like Chandler, Gortat, Gasol etc would fit in the Suns system.

Shaq should have never been on the Suns. He was completely old and worn out by the time.

Being cheap was their main problem. Sold Deng and Rondo as draft picks for cash

they didn't play defense, that was their problem

In hindsight, Jason Richardson should've freaking boxed out Ron Artest from making that layup instead of standing doing nothing like usual, oh well.

I believe Gortat wouldnt have been as good, he was going up in practice and learning from the best center in the NBA, that helped him a lot.
