View Full Version : Simmons trade idea: Kobe Bryant to the Nets for Deron Williams?

Fresno
12-24-2011, 05:34 PM
If you're the Lakers, you'd escape from the last three years ($83.5 million!) of Kobe's cap-crippling deal, reinvent yourselves around Bynum, Gasol and Williams, give yourselves a little more flexibility, get younger and eliminate any possibility of Kobe going into 2007 Toxic Kobe mode. If you're the Nets, you'd abolish any "Williams might leave next summer" concerns and proudly charge into Brooklyn next year with one of the most famous basketball players ever leading the way (under contract through 2014, no less). And if you're Kobe, I mean, maybe you're not unhappy about this deal? New York, new owner, new uniform, new start, new fans, no baggage he'd basically be hitting the RESET button on the final part of his career. Pretty interesting. Who says no?

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7384276/the-13th-day-nba-christmas

Thoughts? I think this might eventually be a possibility.

Nets: Kobe Bryant, Steve Blake
Lakers: Deron Williams, Anthony Morrow, & Johan Petro

Nets would still have the assets needed to acquire Dwight Howard & Hedo Turkoglu's contract.

Nets: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu
Magic: Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Mehmet Okur, Marshon Brooks, 2012 1st Round Pick, 2014 1st Round Pick

Something to think about, if it did happen.

Bynum could pack his bags with him as well and I wouldn't mind trading Gasol's bad contract as well.

Its not out of the realm of possibility.
You're kidding yourself if you think Kobe will ever stand to be apart of a team not contending for a title and going through "rebuilding".

Kobe would've been a Chicago Bull had it not been for Chicago not wanting to move Deng.

The Bulls were willing to trade Deng, but Bryant didn't want to go to that Chicago team without Deng (because of the lack of talent he then would have been joining)

No way Kobe says yes (he has NTC I believe) to that and no chance Nets take on that horrendous contract. If they can't land Dwight (Which means no Deron return) they will go in full rebuilding mode (OKC mode, it works nicely) rather than taking on Kobe's contract. And if LA decides to move Bryant, it gonna be a **** move because he's been there for his entire career. They guy helped you net 5 championships and now you want to move him when he's declining? I understand the business part but there has to be some kind of loyalty.

True, but it would have to be in FA because the only other player on their team that has trade value besides Lopez is Morrow, who is in the trade.

If NJ doesn't get Howard, that'll = Williams leaving. Kobe would be locked up. Of course if Deron commited to NJ you don't go near that trade. The assumption is, they won't be able to retain him.

No they wouldn't. What does that give them? Kobe is 33. They won't contend with him and lopez. Only thing this is gonna do is that it's gonna delay their rebuilding process. Nets have two things to do now. Land Dwight and become a conteder OR suck-to-rebuild if they can't land Dwight.

In all truth, he'd make the Brooklyn Nets filthy rich. Jerry Buss continually states that Kobe makes the Lakers at least $80 mill per season alone. There's a reason why they gave him such a huge extension. The guy is the most famous player in the world, whether we like him or not. Marketability in China, Europe, and other regions in Asia like the Philippines (guy is like a national hero there lol, I know this girl from there saying how Kobe comes down there every year or so to do his camp).

The guy makes you money, and the marketing of Kobe in Brooklyn would be ridiculous... but it'll never happen because it's a terrible trade for both teams IMO (bad for "basketball reasons")

So, Kobe would want to be traded to the Eastern version of the Clippers? To play with who? Humphries, Lopez?

Kobe is NEVER getting traded. The Lakers would rather trade Gasol and a package of other players and continue to draw young talent like Morris, Ebanks, Bynum, Goudlocke than to trade Kobe for Deron Williams which makes NO sense, rumor, opinion or scenario, it's stupid.

It's starting to get pathetic people are going out of their way to make the Nets a relevant franchise in Brooklyn when there is zero excitement in Brooklyn for a sports team in general.

The Nets would be taking a step backwards with this trade idea. You send out all of your young talent while having no picks and u get old past their prime players? doesnt make sense. U get an old injury prone Kobe.... an old Hedo....stave blake and d12? still no PG no young talant or building blocks and d12 would go to Brooklyn with that kind of team? if i was orlando id be hoping this gets done. u gve me Brooks and Lopez and picks AND Humphries? this trade just seems bad for the Nets.
