CP3 could get his extension, but he has to play on whatever team he wants, so he has to take a 2 year extension. Give me DR1 over Deron everyday. The other one that is going to take another big step forward is Westbrook.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chi-rose-agrees-to-fiveyear-contract-extension-with-bulls-20111220,0,3389249.story

Derrick Rose has agreed to his five-year, roughly $94 million contract extension and the Bulls plan to make the formality official either later Tuesday or Wednesday, sources told the Tribune.

The extension is for roughly $10-11 million more than Rose would've been eligible for under the previous collective bargaining agreement. However, a new rule, which has been nicknamed the "Derrick Rose rule" rewards players who outperform their rookie scale contract. Rose qualifies for one of the three stipulations by virtue of becoming the youngest most valuable player in NBA history last season.

The extension will begin in the 2012-13 season and is eligible to start near $16 million in the first year. Rose, 23, told the Tribune recently that he isn't focused on the financial windfall.

"I don't play for money," he said. "I play to win."
The “derrick rose rule” sounds quite unique. Derrick Rose rule" rewards players who outperform their rookie scale contract. Rose qualifies for one of the three stipulations by virtue of becoming the youngest most valuable player in NBA history last season. That’s why derrick rose is getting paid even better than the former 15 mil max contract after a rookie contract is over.

He's paid the lux tax a lot since he has owned the Bulls. He has said, if the Bulls are contending, he will continue to pay the lux tax if it's needed. he's not donald sterling.

I have no idea, but I remember when the Bulls pay roll was like 3 times everyone elses with MJ making 20 something million a year. So I don't think it's going to be a problem.

I guess.

Though I believe it is somewhere around $2 or $3 for every $1. So if they are like $20 mil over the cap, it can cost him more than $40 mil.

But if he's willing to pay it, it's all good I guess.

Daaaaaaaaaamn. Good for the Bulls more than anything. It just seems tricky to commit for that long when star players are team hopping in order to win.. I mean Chris Paul committed to New Orleans because they were on the rise.. or so we thought.. and look at what he had to go through this off-season.

No, it starts $1 to $1 and increases by .25 cents per dollar after certain benchmark numbers are reached. I might be off on how much it increases by, but regardless it's more harsh than the previous agreement. Definitely not $2 for every $1.

Obviously a well-deserved contract.

I'm glad that there's someone to carry the torch that Iverson left off. Sometimes when I watch D Rose it's like a splitting image of the two. D Rose is more athletic, but A.I invented the modern crossover.

Love his game.

I have beef with some bulls fans on this site, but they're right. I don't envision D.Rose ever leaving his hometown. He has more class than that. He lets his game do the talking and I think that says a lot about his character.

Really isn't hard to conclude from ones demeanor how much he believes in loyalty and I would guess it would take a fall out of epic proportions for Rose to leave his hometown and family to go where exactly?? It isn't like this is a small market team on top he gets to live out his dream.

Honestly though at least Lebron had small reasons like that team gave him nothing not to mention its ****ing Cleveland. I would imagine had Cleveland made some moves he might of stayed. It is pretty rare for a player to start their career in their hometown on top of being the face of the franchise. I would also imagine a guy like Rose will think twice after seeing the way Cleveland treated Bron after he left and the villain role he now posses. Allot of pressure no one truly deserves IMO.

I really believe it would take an extremely bad fall out for Rose to leave a place that in 3 years he has almost been lifted to immortal status for good or bad.

The Bulls will make Rose and his family very happy as the team scheduled what it said was a major announcement for Wednesday and it is expected to be Rose’s five-year extension worth about $95 million. Because it is tied to the salary cap, which can change every year, at 30 percent, there is no total amount yet and could rise to $100 million.

Lebron 95.3 mil over 5 years
Wade 92.6 mil over 5 years.

Rose's contract can end up around 100 mil.

So Lebrons contract is the same while Wade's is 3 mil + less. Bosh's contract is pretty ******** so we'll agree on that one. Wade actually chose to make less in order to re sign Haslem though.

I'm hoping you know what I mean. Relative to what average players are paid.

Example: Deandre Jordan is now going to be paid 10mil a year, but I think we can agree that Howard is worth more than twice in terms of producing wins for his team.

Not a huge fan of Rose

Can ask why? Its a shame to be honest that more players in the NBA aren't like Rose. He's the anti Lebron, Bosh, Howard, Paul, Melo etc.. He's old school and not a pampered AAU supper friend that needs his BFF's around him to feel good about himself. The NBA could use a lot more of that.
