The teams acknowledged that McDyess won’t be back, and the club will get to remove $2.6 million, the non=guaranteed portion of his contract, off its player payroll for the 2011-12 season.

McDyess, a former All-Star and an Olympic gold medal winner i n 2000, started all six playoff games last season. After the Game 6 loss in Memphis that ended the playoff run of the No. 1 seeded team in the Western Conference he made it clear to the Express-News that he intended to retire after 16 seasons


In a news story more bitter than sweet, ex-Piston Antonio McDyess has decided to retire from NBA basketball. McDyess's comments about retirement are difficult to swallow for Pistons fans who were front-and-center for this once-lost player's rebirth

Always loved McDyess helped the pistons reach the ECF for a few years

I'll remember McDyess for two things, one being his all-star season with the Nuggets and two being a HUGE setback for the Knicks when we gave away the draft rights to Nene and Marcus Camby away for him.

Yeah. This guy was a class act. I was hoping he might make one more run this season and perhaps win a title with the Spurs. He deserves a ring.

Very solid career. Injuries stopped him from accomplishing a lot.
