View Full Version : Best Low-key aquisition this off-season

Everybody know how big a trade the CP3 deal was. Everybody know that Chandler signing in NY was a big deal, but often time the moves that carry the biggest impact are the ones that are made quietly. Like when the Spurs picked up Roger Mason, or the Mavericks traded for Chandler. Or the Celtics picking up James Posey a few years back.

So which low-key aquisition do you think is going to make the biggest impact?

I personally think that a healthy Troy Murphy could be the biggest aquisition of the offseason (his outside shot and rebounding are HUGE). And the Celtics signing of Chris Wilcox will have a bigger impact than most signings this season (I have a lot of respect for Wilcox as a rebounder, and he's not a guy that demands the ball but can still manage to score a few baskets a game with no plays being run for him).

What signings or trades do you think people are sleeping on?

Michael Redd, wherever he ends up signing. I think that guys gonna have something to prove this season.

Clippers getting Butler and NY getting Baron
Especially since LA had to give up Gordon and NY had to give up Chauncey
Both found pretty good replacements imo

If we are talking about just acquisitions, then the Mavs getting Odom is huge!

Shannon Brown to the Suns.

I actually will second this. I was never a big fan of Shannon Brown with the Lakers just because he was not a good fit for the Triangle, that being said I think he will be the PERFECT fit for the suns.

If Baron to the Knicks is low key?....then its that one, but NYC blows up everything so i doubt thats low-key.

Maybe Battier to the Heat.

:laugh2:

How does that make it a good low key acquisition? Rudy isn't better than Smith or Afflalo.

Battier to the Heat and Chauncey to the Clippers.

Battier to the Heat and Troy Murphy---Murphy is only a year or 2 removed from being a double-double monster and accurate 3 pt shooter.

Also BDavis as homer pick, especially since we got him at the minimum!

This. They strenghtened their weakest position with a proven winner.

I think Bass will help us more than Wilcox(though we do need rebounding), he'll make it so I dont cringe everytime our backup PF takes a midrange shot or goes to the basket.

rip hamilton to the bulls.

i dont think he lost a touch since his detorit days. i think he was just fed up and wasnt motivated to play there anymore. bulls got a legit 2 guard, should be fun to watch

Yeah, Cheeseburger Eddy Curry ain't helping the Heat out much, I don't think. We will soon see, but first he has to get on the court for more than 20 minutes.

That said, I really like the Rip Hamilton acquisition for my Bulls. Then probably Lamar Odom for the Mavs. I think the Battier signing is a little overrated because come playoff time, LeBron and Wade will be taking up 40 minutes a game anyways. I don't see much PT for him there.

In order from the best

1) Crawford to the Blazers
2) Rip to the Bulls
3) Battier to the Heat
4) Billups/Butler to the Clips
5) Davis to the Knicks

I know at least one poster mentioned it, but what about Caron Butler? So much has been made of the Paul deal and the recent Billups signing, that I feel like Butler has been completely overshadowed. Consider this... would you consider that Clippers team a contender with just Paul, Blake and Jordan, with scrubs starting at the wings? No. They'd be a slight upgrade from last year's Hornets, but no way that team contends.

Butler is the key third scorer and secondary playmaker that team needed to take the pressure away from Paul and Griffin. And while he's a bit of an injury concern, he's still only 31 and his 3-point shooting improved significantly last season, so he could have a few solid years left in the tank.

Two ways to look at this.

1. Biggest acquisition for a team that is a contender
or
2. Biggest acquisition for a team that is turning into a contender

Bro, don't argue with him. Every Spanish player is better than any American players according to him. Did you not know that? Watch how much he hates Pau's teammates, Marc's teammates, Jose's teammates, Rudy's team. Now it's a matter of time when he's gonna start blaming Wolves coach and Rubio's teammates.

I can see him getting alot of dunks.but hes still the same player. No shot . He cant create his own shot. But we will see his fg% go up because of the dunks. And that will more then justify his signing.

Personally, I think it's Battier to Miami. He's gonna take all the defensive loads off of LeBron and Wade. That would allow them to spend more energy on the other end. Not to mention his 3 point shooting and leadership.

I cant decide on the best.
Shannon Brown is going to shine this year.
Battier fills in a few holes for an already championship team.
Bulls ended up with a great SG.

Brandon Bass in for Big Baby. Bass was not being used properly at all by SVG (surprise surprise) and Baby just had to go, he's horrible.....
