Looks like the Lakers have their PF replacement for Lamar/Pau...

When's Howard going to the Lakers anyway? They need to get that over with.

This is a good pickup, Murphy never really got a chance last season in Boston or NJ. Just 2 years ago this guy was a double double player

Rumor was the only reason Boston signed him was to keep him away from Miami. They really had no interest in giving him playing time.

He's a good defensive rebounder, and a great 3pt shooter. He's the definition of the "stretch 4" because bigs have to come out to guard him. He's 6'11" and if you try to guard him with a SF on the perimeter he just shoots over them.

Its a great pick up he will be a better back up that Joe Smith or Thoe Ratliff so I like the signing

Yeah... but, he's a major liability defensively and spends no time in the block. Also, those "just 2 years ago he was... X" are generally just false hopes when you're talking about a big in his 30's, especially following injury. He used to be a gunner from 3pt range too, but I don't think he's made a shot in 3 years.

He had to be cheap though, worth a waiver wire pickup I guess.

Not bad. We're picking up all these players that do the little things that help a team. Kapono and Murphy.

Yeah, I'm not saying he'll be his old self, but for the vets min, it's a pretty decent deal. In Boston he was essentially playing behind KG and Baby. In NJ, Avery seems to have hated him lol

Really a low risk, potentially high reward for the Lakers if he could even be half his former self.

I like the signing, He will definitely be an upgrade over Theo Ratliff and Joe Smith.

Meh, doesn't really fill Lamar's shoes. He can shoot and rebound pretty well, but that's about it.

I wonder what the Lakers FO is up to, something has got to be brewing. They now have 2 first round picks, and a $9mill trade exception for LO. You'd think they'd atleast use that to get a backup PF. Really the only spot left to fill is the backup 2 spot.

Troy Murphy: Joining The Lakers - 12/17/2011 12:31:50 PM

Update:
Murphy agreed to a one-year deal with the Lakers on Saturday, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Recommendation:
He's no Lamar Odom, but if Murphy is in decent shape he could get back onto the fantasy radar after a disastrous 2010-2011 season. Unfortunately, not much is a given with him after shooting just 42-of-114 last year (36.8 percent), and it's not guaranteed that he's good enough at this point to earn a lot of minutes.

yeah again guys, i said the same things y'all are when the celtics signed him last season. he was a coveted waiver signing for contenders.

the reason he didn't get much time in boston is because he was AWFUL. like, worst player on the team bad. post-perkins, a decent murphy could have gobbled up 20+ minutes backing up the 4 and 5. he didn't. his jumper looks broken, wasn't crashing the boards, always a defensive liability.

whatever happened in the past 2+ years, it isn't going to unhappen. i'd be shocked if he was a factor for the lakers.

I noticed that too. I think this is all a Stern conspiracy. How can he hate on the CP3 trade but stand idley by while our bench turns into Hoosiers? If they can have a 2 superstar a team maximum, I want a 3-1/2 white boy per team maximum dammit!!

I'm gonna get crushed for this, but I think Blake will overtake Fisher at some point this season. Blake outside of the triangle is a solid pg. If we strictly look at how crappy he was last year, which he was, take into consideration that no pg has ever been an all-star under Phil Jackson's triangle offense. Like not even close either.

I think the Lakers can eventually pick up a pg later on at the deadline, so I don't think they'll rush right now to pick someone up.

I don't think they would flip him. Take out Dwight and plug in Gasol and they're still very competitive. With Gasols passing, shooting, and FT's some would even argue they might be better. If they still had Hedo a pick and roll situation with those two would be pretty hard to defend.....

My thoughts exactly as we were interested in both McRoberts and Murphy. Think they are wanting OJ?

Nelson/Duhon
J-Rich/Redick
???/Q-Rich/Clark
Gasol/Davis/Anderson
Bynum/Orton

That wouldn't get us out of the first round of the playoffs. We'd almost have to flip Gasol for youth and picks. Maybe to the Rockets? Utah? Denver?

The Lakers basically have 1 spot to fill and that's the backup 2 guard. I think they'd love Mayo or Nick Young. But who knows. I know that when the Lakers are this quiet something typically happens out of nowhere. I'm not saying D12, but they might go after another decent player with the TE and the 2 first rounder
