terrible news for a team in need of A. depth and B. youth.

of course his health is the number one concern. well wishes, mr. green.

Unlike the BS Brandon Roy story this is a REAL travesty.

So thats his medical condition, damn thats the worst possible news. Get better soon Green.

As for the Celtics, this really hurts their team. Green was their biggest trade chip too (assuming Rondo is untouchable).

They should let Boston release Jeff Green from his contract so they can use the cap elsewhere.

He only signed a one year deal.

This is an extremely serious condition. My friends mother had this and while she had it successfully corrected, there's heavy risk.
My prayers go out to him that the surgery is successful. If they didn't find this he probably wouldn't have made it through the next 12 months.

You mean as in not pay him? That would be illegal and F'd up

They could get an injured player exception like the Rockets got for Yao.

"Because Green could not pass the physical, the free agent contract he signed with the Celtics will be voided."

hope he's okay. You never wanna hear something like this cause a player's season to end. That's some serious ish right there.

"Because Green could not pass the physical, the free agent contract he signed with the Celtics will be voided." Thats helpful, but not so much when you see that almost all of the better free agents have already signed on with teams.

Celtics doctors say that Jeff Green can resume his career next season, according to a team statement. Thats great news. There was a guy in WWE who had heart surgery too and it ended up saving his life and he was wrestling like a few months later.

if kirilenko doesn't join the nets i think he'd be a nice option to replace green.

how much money says the celtics amnesty him for the 8 million?

The contract was never officially filed due to the failed physical. The contract was voided.

Even with the voiding of Greens contract, the Celtics are 7 million INTO the luxury tax.

Voiding the contract does nothing to help the cap situation besides save luxury tax money.

The most they can offer a free agent is the veterans minimum.

Chandler/Martin/Brooks/Smith from China in March. Chandler/Brooks would be tough since they're RFA's, but if Boston can sign Smith with the exception and get Martin to come back for the min they might be in even better shape than before?
which wrestler was it again?

Prayers out for Green, thankfully this won't be career ending

The celtics aren't guaranteed a medical exception.

mzgrizz
12-17-2011, 01:29 PM
Hope for a full and complete recovery which he should have. Occasionally now they can do this without open heart.

But apparently not when it's this advanced. Wish him well.

celtics getting the injury exception isn't happening, they voided his contract.

the exception would have cost them 28 million.

johnhollinger John Hollinger
Incidentally, replacing him with injury exception would cost Boston $28 million A) have to pay Green, b) have to pay new guy, c) tax on both

The celtics have already said they intend to keep him around the team as much as possible post surgery. Plus he will be restricted going into free agency, so the Cs will still probably resign him.

Forget basketball Im just glad they caught that when they did. If you know anything about aneurisms they are no joke, epsecially cardiac ones. They go undetected w/o any signs or symptoms but when they rupture its usually lights out.

Hope his surgery goes well and the fact that he's still young helps him have a good recovery......

kind of a dick move though to void his contract

How?

1) The contract was never officially finalized due to the physical

2) He cost 18 million due to the luxury tax

3) The only other option was getting a medical exception from the league, which would make no since because the team would have had to pay the 18 million for Green, 4.5 for whoever they sign, and the luxury tax on that player.

for money reasons it make sense but still taking away a dudes paycheck cuz his heart is messed up is still kinda dicky

his heart isn't large cause of stress its cause he was born with a underlying condition. if you are worried just get it checked by a doc for some peace of mind.

i went to hs with some kid who dropped dead on the football field because of a heart condition, if he got it checked he would still be here today. better safe then sorry.
