so we just got over the cp3 phase, now every week, in the NBA forum, not the NYK forum, we must read about austin routins, shawne williams, jerome jordan, barron davis, who is next? travis outlaw?

all the NBA forum is for is for knicks fans to discuss players that on some of the best teams in the league, wld be the 13th man on the roster

Captain Moroni

If Davis is healthy, and that is a huge IF, he would have to be in shape, learn the system and start out getting spot minutes. Amare himself said the other day that the Knicks don't need Baron Davis, so even coming to NY would be in question.
The advantage he would have is that everyone just started practicing 6 days ago.
The NBA is a league of "prove yourself" before anyone gives you a thought. Just ask John Wall about that. The Knicks have really been talking about Iman Shumpert alot. I watched the practice Scrimmage today and came away very impressed. I have never seen the guy play until today. He has a nice stroke, surprising range and on defense he is an animal. Of course that is only a scrimmage. Dantoni stated that Iman is in the rotation and could start at some time this season.
Point is, the Knicks might not even be interested in Baron Davis.

It doesnt matter if someone offers him 15 million per, he is an amnestied player. If he gets the MLE from Orlando, or the Minimum form someone else he still gets paid the same. The amount of his original contract. Cleveland pays the difference.

12-16-2011, 11:14 PM
Even if he isn't that healthy, if he accepts a non-starting role he can still be key to mentor our young guards.

Even Miami's guards if he wanted to go there.

Captain Moroni
12-16-2011, 11:14 PM
What's with the facepalm? Nobody thought the Bulls were a Top 3 team. So, It's a problem for us to think that?

Pretty one sided thinking.

Problem with most Bulls fans, is that they believed their team was as good as the amount o games they won last year. They were over=rated, had a cakewalk in the playoffs and got killed the second they faced a real team. Chicago will probably be a 4th seed this year.

Captain Moroni
12-16-2011, 11:18 PM
If Miami wanted him, that would be a good fit. I do think the Knicks would offer more of a starting role, and I believe Douglas is better suited coming off the bench. Regardless of what STAT said, Shumpert must prove he can contribute before we crown him the answer at the ONE.
Having a solid veteran like Baron Davis would make, Heat, Knicks, fans very happy.
For all intensive purposes he might really be out 2 months. By that time the chinese league players are back and signing contracts as well.

Im pretty sure you are wrong. He cleared the waivers of under the cap teams. Essentially now, it works as a buyout would have for him. He is free to sign wherever he wants, but does not make additional money (unless someone were to offer him an amount LARGER than his original contract, which wont happen). So he will be offered the minimum, and the Cav's will pay him his original amount minus the min that the other team pays.

I agree with whoever said the opposite. I read somewhere that if you're claimed for say 3m and are owed 13m, the old team pays the 10m difference. If you're NOT claimed, they pay the contract as they waived you. He can sign wherever he wants as a FA. Cleveland is on the hook. He gets to add to it what he can.

arenas has been one of the worst players in the NBA the past 2 years, he is completely done. Thats why he cleared waivers, is healthy, and yet you hear of not ONE team wanting to sign him even for the min.

Davis still has something left, he played well last year for CLE. MSG would motivate him IMO.

If a team wanted Arenas they would have been on it already, you don't want to wait until AFTER training camp to sign a player. Not saying it won't happen, but with Davis you already hear 3 or 4 teams interested.

Not sure where Farmar factors in here...lol, but i'd take him over Arenas any day.

And really I seriously doubt you could name even 50 worse players than Arenas, people don't realize just how bad he's been, I believe he has the worst shooting % of any player in the NBA the past 2 years.

You are mistaken. Players can only make so much under the new CBA. If tomorrow Gilbert arenas showed up in the best shape of his life and was scoring 50ppg in Spain, and was an allstar again he could sign anywhere. If Philly decided to give him 15 million a year, they would be accountable for that amount against the salary cap and the luxury tax yes. But the notion that arenas would suddenly be banking 35million per year is preposterous. He would still be making his 20 million, with Orlando paying 5, Philly paying 15.

It could be several weeks before veteran point guard Baron Davis' back allows him back on a basketball court, but a source says Davis hopes to decide by Monday what uniform he'll be wearing when that happens.

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat have all expressed interest in signing Davis, who was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday via the league's amnesty clause after his back flared up the first day of training camp. With both the Cavaliers and Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, reporting that Davis could miss eight to 10 weeks with his back problems, no team with salary cap space placed a bid on him during the 48-hour waiver period.

The Cavaliers still must pay his salary -- $13.95 million this season and $14.85 million next season -- but he's now available to any team, including those who can only offer a veteran's minimum salary. One source said the initial diagnosis may have been too conservative and that Davis could be back in four to six weeks.

Davis, 32, hopes to make his decision well before he's physically able to play so he can familiarize himself with the team's playbook and personnel and settle into his new home.

The Knicks have been particularly aggressive in landing Davis, a source said, and that could influence his decision.

"Going to a team that really wants him is an important part of it," the source said.
