Bobcats rookie Bismack Biyombo's team in Spain, Fuenlabrada, will retain his rights, meaning he will not be allowed to play for the Bobcats this season.
The courts did not allow Biyombo to break his agreement with his Spanish team, so this is very disappointing news for Biyombo and the Bobcats. Maybe something will get worked out at a later date, but as of now, it seems like this is a lost season for Biyombo.

I wouldn't think it would matter either way.

that 2ppg and 3 rbg will be sorely missed... maybe if he gets legit minutes and puts up some pts he might discover he actually has an offensive upside?

Biyombo is a project. This isn't that bad. He's really raw offensively, and probably not at all NBA-ready in that regard.

I like his future, but he wasn't going to have much, if any, impact this year anyways.

Coming next year is probably better anyways. Not enough time to prepare for this year.

hahaha, you literally took my post from me.

Guys, he is such a project at this point, he wouldn't get more than 10 mpg.

So not much is expected from this guy?
I was wondering why I had not heard much about him at all.
Damn, did Jordan pick him?

You guys do realize he will not return to his Spanish team?

They told him he wasnt welcomed back ever for "quitting" the team to prepare for the NBA draft and they took him to court because they felt he was trying to get out of his contract.

NBA teams can only offer $500K towards a buyout.

Biyombo is probably going to have to cover his buyout in order for him to play basketball anywhere, because if the Spanish team owns his rights he can't play anywhere.

I feel sorry for him.

Hes literally stuck in limbo since he left Spain and had moved to Charlotte to live anyways. He was with Charlotte in training camp, but couldnt play due to the contract issue with Spain.

What can he do? This is kinda like what happened with Mike Williams and Maurice Clarrett.

lol that is an extremely conditional pick that will probably never be claimed in time to be of use.

Pay the 3 millions of his buy out, 500k form bobcats 2500 k from his own pocket.
Its stupid that new cba didnt adress this thing and allow teams to pay whatever buyouts with no limit TO NON USA teams.

If rudy f had took a flight to madrid last year from portland and refused to play for them anymore while still with contract what would have people said?

How is this a bad thing? The guy is very raw offensively and as of right now only brings value via defensive presence. He'll average 4 fouls a night in 12 minutes of play in the NBA while he can play 30 in Spain and learn what a midrange jumper is.

Disregard my previous post then. Maybe he can learn to crochet?

Just curious, I don't really know much in this aspect, but can't he just leave the country and sign a contract with the bobcats? kinda similar to how Aroldis Chapman left cuba to play in the usa? i know its two different things, but was wondering what would happen

most overrated/hyped player in the draft. I have more of an offensive game then him. I see him as a really poor version of Sammy Dalembert

he was gonna suck for them this year anyways. The bobcats are gonna suck period

This is nothing like Williams and Clarrett. They fought the NFL draft rules like idiots and lost and ruined their careers.

CBA doesnt affect things. The buyout issue was put in place by FIBA.

Good riddance. :D

The cba has ALL to do with it.

In the old cba american teams could only pay 500k dollars for buyouts to euroe teams.

In the NEW cba they can only pay 500K dollars .

Byombos buy out is set at 3 Million.
Fiba wont give clearance until that 3 million ( or less if they negotiate) are paid.
Bobcats cant DUE TO THE CBA, so its on Byombos roof to pay from his own pocket and on Jordans roog negotiate ways to make it lower, ( as for example comiting to play a game in Byomobos previous team Arena, wich could generate around 700 k + the 500 from bobcats + some from Byombo and solve it all).

Its beyond me WHY in hell did new Cba have still the 500k restriction knowing the problems it has given to nba teams htis last few years with Splitterl, Scola, navarro, rubio etc etc etc.

Is not like if paying 3 million in a buyout TO A FOREING team is gonna break the " competitive Parity" of Nba.

It's not the end of the world Bobcat fans, Jonas is doing the same thing and just look at it as two big pieces coming after next years draft.

Probably because in 2009 Rubio stayed in Spain by choice. Biyombo's team is preventing him from coming.

He is free to sign with Charlotte.

Ramón Trecet: BIYOMBO: The sides sides have come to an agreement. Fuenlabrada will earn €1.2 million € (around $1.6 million) and FIBA will send the transfer. Biyombo will sign with Charlotte.

False, due to him falling so low on the draft he COULD NOT pay his buyout from his team, but since he no longer wanted to play for them and barcelona wanted to pay the buyout he agreed to play two years ( same amount that was left in his previous team contract) there.
