NYMetros
12-13-2011, 11:12 PM
That's about fair value IMO. There are very few good centers in the NBA, so they're gonna get paid more than other positions. A tick over 13 million annually for the 5th or 6th best center in the league is a good deal.

And if I'm the Nets, I don't really care about not getting him, I want Dwight. I highly doubt Nene Hilario is going to convince Deron Williams to stay.

I actually really like the trade for Brewer and Fernandez. Also read in Nuggs forum that Chinese teams may be willing to take $500,000 for a release of contract. If true, they could either trade Chandler or have him back in the roster. I think the lineup is filling out pretty nicely.

How, exactly?

Teams realize you cant win anymore unless you have a solid center (which Heat didnt). If Wade/Bosh/Lebron cant win without a center how do you think the other teams without a solid center feel?

Therefore teams are paying big money to lock down the best centers right now.

Why not just target Kirelenko from the get go?. or would that lend to the tampering charges that Nets faked interest in a free agent centre? lol

LOL at all the Nets get owned parts. Most Nets fans are actually cheering. First of all, Nene and Dwight share the same agent so this could mean the Nets might be closing in on a deal with him. Second of all, if those rumors were true, the Nets would be way overpaying for Nene. What would happen if the Nets did not get Dwight and were stuck with Nene's contract. If D-Will decided to leave the Nets would be in a terrible place. I much rather sign a guy like Humphries or Landry for a much cheaper price than Nene, so I could save that money for D12 or a starting SF.

Stein's story:

Free-agent center Nene and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to terms on a five-year deal worth in excess of $67 million, according to sources close to the talks.

Nene
Widely regarded as the No. 1 free agent on the 2011 market, Nene was pursued vehemently by teams such as New Jersey, Houston and Indiana.

But all of his suitors knew that his preference was to stay with the Nuggets, with whom he's played his whole career.

The deal, sources say, will pay Nene an average of $13.5 million over the next five seasons, which is one season longer than any other team could offer.

Earlier Tuesday, Denver acquired swingmen Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer from the Dallas Mavericks for a future second-round pick to add much-needed depth in the wake of the departures of three free agents to China during the lockout: Wilson Chandler, J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin.

The Nuggets still want to sign Chandler when he returns to the United States, most likely in March, but fending off the competition to keep Nene was always Denver's No. 1 offseason priority.

"He's a Nugget," Denver's executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said during his first visit with reporters following the end of the lockout.

Nene's wife is from Denver and his close ties to the organization were only cemented by the way that the Nuggets nursed him through a serious knee injury in the first game of the 2005-06 season and a subsequent fight against testicular cancer in January 2008.

The deal struck by Nene and agent Dan Fegan would certainly validate their decision to opt out of his originally scheduled $11 million salary for next season and to turn down a four-year, $50 million extension offer from the Nuggets last summer.

http://denver.sbnation.com/denver-nuggets/2011/12/13/2634625/arron-afflalo-nba-rumors-free-agency-2011

The Denver Nuggets are on a roll on Tuesday and it might just continue for a bit longer. The Nuggets and restricted free agent are moving closer to a new contract, according to CBS Sports' Ken Berg. Afflalo had flirted with the idea of signing with another team, but the Nuggets have the right to counter any contract that he is offered. Instead, signing a new deal eases any concerns of having to match a large contract.

As Berg notes, the Nuggets acquired Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer on Tuesday, both swingmen who could cut into Afflalo playing time. Fernandez has reportedly been upset over his playing time in Portland, which had him shipped out to Dallas in June, and what he would have received with the Mavericks had he remained with the team. He might not like what he'll receive in Denver, either.

Other than pass, which I hope Deron would be better than Melo at because he a PG Melo isn't, what else does Deron do better than Melo? He certainly doesn't score or rebound better, he certainly isn't as explosive a player as Melo, not even close. And before you knock Melo's defense and act like D-Will is a blanket, I'll stop you dead in your tracks. D-Will is nothing special defensively and Melo is nowhere near as bad as people make him out to be. So other than passing, Melo is better than Deron in every facet of the game. Melo's the better player for me, no question. I'm sick of people overrating Deron as a player and a PG, he's not Paul or Rose.

They should use the amnesty on Harrington, I mean he is everything you don't want in a player. Selfish ballhog, low basketball IQ, brick of a shot. Completely useless. I'm so glad he's not a Knick anymore.

No need. Still under the cap, gotta pay him either way. The amnesty's more valuable in pocket... at least for now.
