Josh McRoberts is being pursued by the Grizzlies, but appears more likely to take more money and a bigger role with the Lakers.

McRoberts has been mentioned in trade rumors with Memphis involving O.J. Mayo. The Grizzlies told Mayo on Tuesday that he will not be dealt.

Mike Wells reports that McRoberts is on the verge of an agreement with the Lakers.

Hes just like Josh Smith - minus the amazing defense, and just an ok offense. Pretty much only good for highlight alley-oops. He is young and has the potential to be good. Good signing if he comes cheap (<5mil)

Just on the simple fact that Bynum is a walking glass ornament, i would also take that combo.

Maybe this move means Buss caves in and does give up Bynum+Gasol for d12. It would at least soften the blow of losing both of them a bit...

Lakers have no shot at a title this year unless they make a big splash and get an all star type player. They gave away one of their best core guys to Dallas for nobody. Things are looking gloom in LA right now. The fan base is about to explode unless Jim buss can prove he's rationale to take the lead and improve that team. As they stand right now, the team that got emarassed out of the playoffs has gotten drastically worse.

Lakers are still a much worse team than they were last season. This is not looking like a good offseason at all for this team. Lakers are beginning to look more and more like a team that won't compete for a championship this season unless they can drastically improve the team.

Odom was good, but always a bit overrated. He only shows up every 3-4 games, had an amazing year last year, doubt he replicates that. Yes, the lakers are a tiny bit worse as of today, but to say they arent competing? lol...come on.

Kobe/Gasol/Bynum is still 3 all-stars, as long as they have those three healthy, they will always be in contention. They probably went from a top 3 team to a top 6 team as of todays roster.

LO was a vital piece to this team. He was the best really rebounder they had. Giving him away for nothing and replacing him with McRoberts is a gigantic downgrade. You couple that in with the fact that Lakers have no bench and a below average PG rotation, their chances of winning a title this season is much worse than last year. And last year they got shown they werent on the same level of the champs. Lakers need to make moves but ones that will have a major impact on this team positively. They have lots of holes in their team and they essentially made those holes bigger so far this offseason

He's a hard worker and good character guy. I think of him as a more athletic Lamar Odom. He does all the same things, can handle the ball, hit threes if needed, best white dunker in the league I don't care what anybody says. Kinda sad to see him go, he was one of the fan favorites for his dunks. He is also highly underrated, I'm not saying he is the next Blake Griffin or anything, but its a good pickup for a championship contender....

Our bench is Morris-Fisher-Goudelock-Kapono-Barnes-Green-Walton-Character-McRoberts.

That really isn't that bad.

I'm really good with our backups at PG. We have a vet, a true PG and a shooter.

I'm really good with our backups at SG. Say what you want about Green, but he's basically a bigger and offensively better version of Shannon. Also, Kapono can light it up.

I love our backup SF the most. Barnes is easily our best guy off the bench and Walton for all the crap he takes is a very good teammate and can shoot, score, defend and pass. Plus, he's smart.

I'm really good with our backups at PF too. Character is another big body, but McRoberts hustles, he's athletic and he wants to be a Laker. I love what he said after he signed. I think he's gonna play a big role this year.

C...nobody. We gotta fix that. McRoberts can handle some minutes there, but he's more of a PF.

That's entirely possible, being that we have Fisher, Blake, and 2 rookies as our current options at point guard. Fisher and Blake were the worst pg tandem in the league last season. If Blake doesn't return to his "pre-Laker" form and flourish in Mike Brown's system, we are obviously very weak at pg.

Grizzlies are a damn good team. I don't see what connection there is between the Grizzlies record and Josh McRoberts.

lavilevi23

Josh McRoberts averaged 7.4 ppg, 54.7% fg!, 5.3 rpg, 2.1 apg in only 22 mpg. I think he will get about 30 minutes a game with the Lakers and average double digits. More importantly, he won't disappear in the playoffs. We wouldn't have gifted odom to the Mavs if we were afraid of facing him in a playoff series.

I don't think they are "worse" than last year. But they surely still have the glaring weakness at point guard, being that no "D" Erek Fisher will probably still be our starting pg, and he is a year slower than last year.

Josh McDaniels will pretty much take Odom's role if they don't make any more trades. If they trade Gasol and Bynum for Howard, then he would obviously be our starting pf.
