View Full Version : Space Jam 2

One of the classics that never got a sequel.

I feel like making a sequel to Space Jam could be great if done correctly. The biggest reason for the move potentially not doing well is that there is no bigger player in the history of the sport than MJ.

So is a sequel a good ideal? Is it even worth trying?

To me it depends on which player they cast. Naturally the casters might ponder the whole "best player" "next Jordan" thing and explore going with Kobe or Lebron. I personally think that's what could be the movie's downfall. Movie and sports critics would tear the movie up since no player could compare with Jordan.

Instead imo they should focus on a different strategy. Dont sell the audience on the next Jordan but instead on an entirely new player that wouldnt enter the same conversation.

My choice would be Dwight or CP3 or Blake Griffin.

What do you guys think?

I couldnt come up with another option worthy of realistically starring in this film so why not the 2012 NBA MVP Travis Outlaw?

Dwight Howard... he has that looney tunes thing going on, always smiling etc. Kobe would be second choice. But Lebron? No way, he doesn't seem like a lovable character for kids. I think those three would be the top 3 choices for the casting anyway, no need to talk about the rest. I can see Melo or CP3 being in a movie related to basketball, but not a Space Jam-like picture

That's about the only way you're getting me to see the sequel. Unless of course it's starring Travis Outlaw.

i think we should have a young up and coming player to make the movie have a different motive because nothing is ever going to compare to the first.. i'm thinking Austin Rivers

It's got to be Kobe. He's the only one that has the rings & came into the league as "Baby Jordan." MJ's the GM/coach. Kobe's his star. There's plenty of room there for ribbing & praise.

It'd have to be Bradon Roy. Why? Because he retired early and the aliens wouldn't steal his powers!! The fat boss alien could say "Why didn't you get this guy" Then Brandon Roy is inspired to come back and win 3 Championships :-)

it would HAVE to star with Kobe or Lebron. No one else at this point has been a bigger star since MJ. you could argue that Shaq would be a good personality for the role, but they shouldnt even make a sequel. Space Jam is a classic, especially for those of us that grew up in the 90's. it would be a mistake to ruin it with a cheesy sequel

There was never a bigger star than Michael Jordan. If there is a Space Jam 2, then I think it would be better to have Michael Jordan in it again lol.

But seriously dont ruin a classic with a sequel.

Who doesn't like Dwight Howard? He's a cool guy, a lot of people wouldn't mind taking their kids to watch that imo. I definitely would watch it just because its space jam.

Super.

No. Doing Lebron or Kobe imo would give too many ppl a reason to hate on it and not give it a chance cuz the Jordan comparisons would come up etc.

They have to imo take it away from Jordan and use a player that isnt even comparable to Jordan but great in his own right.

For example the idea someone came up with about Jordan being the coach and D12 being the player they use.

If it HAD to be Lebron or Kobe i would use them both in a script involving pitting them against each other. For example:

The bad guys kidnap Lebron and force him to be their player with some evil scheme. In order to defend themselves the Toons go and get Kobe to help them to combat the bad guys and their new weapon Lebron. They cold gave some sappy magical way of having Lebron cheat his way out of the deal and help the Toons win.

I apologized already. I counted 9 players plus the "other" then when i got to the 9th player spot i forgot who was supposed to be in it.

I already asked a mod to please add KD

lol, please

Did if ever occur to you that not all movies were meant to have sequels? Aside from the storyline or development, many times the lead roles cannot be replaced by alternatives.
A fine example is Conan. The remake should have never happened, and certainly without Arnold. Space Jam should never have a sequel, it wasn't THAT great either, and if it did have a sequel, anyone other than Jordan would be a horrible failure.
