chicago plans on signing rip once he is bought out and not picking up bogans' contract. i personally think this is a great fit. fills that hole at SG that was needed for them.

if there is already a thread on this, my bad.

what is everyone's thought on this?

EDIT: someone put the "S" in source, i guess i missed it when copying the title.

Not a 34 year old Rip as a 4th option on offense. He can still help them though.

Ugh, I hate this move. I really do and while I believe in our FO, I just don't understand it.

He doesn't offer neither of the 2 most critical things we need which is spacing and creating his own shot. And is below average defensively.

I still hope this is just a move to pressure Jcraw or Jrich into taking less. But our FO knows what they're doing, I guess.

If it means Bogans is out this is only good news for Chicago.

Apparently not since none of them seem to want to take the MLE.

Personally I would have went hard after Nick Young. Oh well.

Executive from a team inquiring about Rip Hamilton has been told Rip was focused on Chicago. "It's a lock," exec says.

He will definitely improve our team. But, he doesn't really provide the necessary skills we need for our team.

I wonder what happens with Crawford and J-Rich. Both of their value has to be going down now.
Wouldn't shock me to see Richardson back in Charlotte on a 1 year deal. They still need a go to scorer.

I really don't think they'll fine enough PT to play rip..

I really don't think Hamilton is going to be the only player we get. If we end up getting another SG, Bogans is most likely gone from the team.

I think he plays similar to ray allen good mid range, runs off screens chicago is the new boston with the style of play, he's not ray allen but he plays good defense good pick up hopefully they can get Jamal Crawford to play point when rose sit down still points beenin added and we score now

The problem is that he doesn't play good defense. He's been below average at that end the last few years. Fortunately we got Thibs, but will that be enough?

I guess they plan on utilizing him like Ray except Ray is an elite 3pt shooter whereas Rip isn't...

rip can thrive off of rose's penetration. he's also really improved his 3 point range over the years which will help.

like others said they need another guy who can consistently get his but i like the signing.

Auburn Hills-- Ben Wallace predicted former teammate Richard Hamilton would quickly find a landing spot after being bought out.

Hamilton didn't have to go far down I-94 to find it, as he will sign with the Chicago Bulls. It's been reported he would sign a two-year deal worth $10 million.

Pistons President Joe Dumars wouldn't reveal the buyout numbers late Friday night, but a source said it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $8 million of the near $20 million Hamilton would've been paid if he remained a Piston—or if the team used the Amnesty Clause.

"It's just a verbal agreement right now, so nothing's official," Dumars said. "Once it's official, I can get into detail about why buyout instead of amnesty."

The salary-cap hit will be split evenly over the next two years, despite the Pistons owing him more guaranteed money this year than next year. Hamilton would've been paid a pro-rated version of $12.6 million and had 75 percent of the same amount guaranteed for next year.

Hamilton averaged 14.1 points last year, his lowest in nine seasons in Detroit, since being traded for Jerry Stackhouse in 2002.

Hamilton had seemingly been disgruntled since the trade of Chauncey Billups in November 2008, despite signing an extension to stay in Detroit shortly thereafter. He had well-publicized issues with coaches John Kuester and Michael Curry, and the organization attempted to move Hamilton at last year's trade deadline.

Hamilton balked at a buyout that's eerily similar to the money he will make as a member of the Bulls. In Chicago, he will likely be the fourth option on offense, after MVP Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng.

The Bulls have been searching for a shooting guard to take pressure off Rose, Hamilton clearly wanted out and the Pistons wanted a fresh start after the drama of the last two season. All three parties got their wish.

Ummm? What makes you think he will be the fourth option? Worst would be third option.

Rose
Hamilton
Boozer

Only scorer on the team, besides kover which comes off the bench.

he's pushing 34, that's pretty old. But he has a lot of playoff and big game experience. Those finals against Kobe is great experience that none of our guys have experienced.

However, it is a weird signing in my opinion. Obviously we don't want to dip into luxury so it seems like he will be our only option.

but look at his stats, averaging over 30 minutes a game, 17 pts a game, and respectable fg, 3pt, and ft percentages. not exactly what I wanted but ways better than Bogans

Seems obvious why they didn't use amnesty. Now they can use amnesty on BG or Villanueva.

I doubt they use the amnesty on either of them. Moving Ben Gordon doesn't make any sense if Hamilton's not there. With Rip gone, they pretty much have to have Gordon, since their only other quality guards are Stuckey and Brandon Knight. And we still don't know how good Knight is.

As for Villanueva, we're really short on Bigs, and he's better than nothing.

Probably not my best option but he is better then Bogans. At least at scoring. The defense part not so much.

kozelkid
12-10-2011, 04:03 PM
You think hamilton is the missing piece?

I've changed my opinion a little.

I don't necessarily think he's the missing piece per say. I think it's more on Noah and Boozer gelling both (meaning not being out a substantial amount of time during the regular season) and playing injury free (more on Boozer) who was hampered by injuries during playoff time.

But at the same time, he's still an obvious upgrade over 4 ppg Bogans who defenses don't even bother guarding. Literally all his shots were WIDE open. Defenses have to at least respect Rip. So we'll see.

sargon21

The perfect fit would be Afflalo IMO, but that's highly unrealistic, so Rip looks like a pretty good option at this point, and he could easily give us 15 ppg.

Why does everybody hate this move? We have a fourth option for scoring. He's not carrying the team. He is a solid addition to an already good Bulls team that will be better than last year. Calm down management knows whats best for the team.

He's definitely not the player that he once was, but he's better than Keith Bogans.

But in terms of the Bulls's offensive system, he's almost a perfect fit.

He is def better than bogans...we will just have to see how much. Hamilton is not a good 3pt shooter...they will have spacing problems.

Meh, I'm very indifferent over this signing if it comes to fruition. On one hand he is without a doubt an upgrade over Bogans. On the other hand, I believe there were much better options available. Guess we'll see how this pans out soon enough.
