DALLAS _When Brandan Wright surveyed his options, he knew he wanted to play for the Dallas Mavericks.

“I’m not sure exactly who reached out to who, but Dallas was one of the first people that we were in contact with,’’ Wright said. “A lot of other situations I could have went to.

“But I thought this was the best situation being on a veteran team, a team who is going to win, a team that’s start improving. You always want to be with a winning organization.’’

The first pick of the Golden State Warriors -- the eighth overall selection -- Wright has career averages of 5.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 114 career games. The 6-10, 210-pounder’s career has been hampered by two injuries to his left shoulder.

Wright, 24, declared last year, when he played for the New Jersey Nets, as a bounce-back season for him. He averaged 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11.5 minutes while playing 16 games last year for the Nets.

“I wasn’t completely healthy until about January or February,’’ Wright said. “The last 10 games. . .I started to get comfortable, then we had this lockout.

“I think it’s a good time to show everyone what I can do. Like I said, I thought it was a great fit and a great opportunity playing with a great group of guys.’’

Wright said he can play power forward, small forward or center, but his preferred position is power forward.

“He’s a kid that was a very high pick a few years ago,’’ Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. “He had some difficulties with injuries and bad luck, but we feel that this is a great a time to get him on our team.

“And off of the first day, I really like him. He’s a great athlete, extremely active, has a good feel for the game and I think he’s going to keep getting better.’’

I still can't believe we traded my favorite Warrior of all time for Brandan Wright. SMH!

it couldve been worse...but we shouldve kept him because brandan wright literally did nothing for us. but we needed to do something to bolster our frontcourt, which was brutally exposed vs utah in round 2.

hate the warriors for doing this, but it was a "bold move" and they took a chance to get better. plus we had monta so we didnt have anything to lose

True. I really thought Wright was going to do well in his first couple years in the league, because of his unique skill set. He has a crazy wing-span, height, athleticism, and a jump shot.

im not too sure about the jumpshot..but he was highly regarded out of UNC.

Does anyone know why he never got the playing time? Don Nelson perhaps? Injuries?

I think he was playing pretty bad to start, and then he had an injury. Then we he was fully healthy he didn't get much playing time.

It's disappointing to see Vlad Rad gone, I can't have any sarcastic enthusiasm for a player on our team anymore..

Call me crazy but I still think BWright will figure it out, he's still young.

theres no doubt i think he will too..he just never got a chance on the warriors. hopefully we can see him breakout this year on the mavs..

Sad day to for us Warrior fans to see Vlad go.

Before Charlie Bell got shanked and had his dui and his drunk day in court he had such a chill life. Never played, got paid millions, sat at the end of the bench and got to pretend he was Kobe. That's the ****ing life. Dont do **** and get paid.

At least we can use Bell as an expiring contract at the trade deadline. He's not completely useless.

If the warriors decide to trade Ellis, they should get proven player like Gay or get younger. Timberwolves have always been interested in Ellis. Theres some good talent out there, Wesley Johnson?

yeah cuz trading our expiring contracts last season at the deadline worked out so well. I seriously am not sure if larry riley even understands the value of an expiring contract.

I thought the trade was already set in motion. We were suppose to trade charlie bell for esaady last january. Who dropped the ball?

But now, he's being told to stay home. No need to travel with the team; just stay home, chill, and get paid 5 million. But of course, he's missing out on wearing those flyass, expensive suits to every game.
