A big part of the NBA's new CBA will be a "renegotiation and extension" provision.

It will allow players to be paid a smaller amount over a long period, but the salary cannot decrease by more than 40 percent.

A renegotiated salary previously could only increase a salary.

Sounds great for teams and their fans. I'm guessing the renegotiated smaller salary is reflected on the cap as well?

So basically it helps teams who have superstars to get another superstar.

On the flip side, if NY did this for example, Amar'e might be getting 12 a year instead and will be getting paid that past his Knick career. So NY has to pay the penalty in cap while he plays elsewhere.

This is good for those big contracts that have guys getting paid 20 million at age 35.

Lol and why would a player agree to that? It's not like football where management can say "take a pay cut or your gone" they all have guaranteed contracts. Players would laugh in managements face.
