View Full Version : Spurs to use Amnesty on RJ

Fresno

The Spurs have decided to use the amnesty clause on contract of Richard Jefferson, league sources tell Y! Sports. He has 3 years, $30M left.

Spurs are aggressively in the market for a starting small forward, and amnesty allows them to use full mid-level exception of $5M per year.

Thoughts?

Im curious to see which team picks up RJ and for what price. He was a bad fit in San Antonio but just 2 seasons ago he was averaging 20 PPG.

Feel free to move to Spurs forum... Curious what teams are interested in him. He's been shooting the ball extremely well, just doesnt fit the system.

Tweet from Chris Broussard: "Caron Butler's choices: SA or CHI for the $5 million midlevel exception, or NJ or LA Clippers for about $7 mill/year..."

RJ can only be claimed by a team under the salary cap.

Now, if a team over the salary cap has a trade in place for him than I could definetly see him in Boston or Dallas.

Def could see SA

If the Clippers can offer more money then I think he'll go there. If he really wants to win though, he'll come to SA.

Good use of the amnesty. He wasn't going to help that team.

he'd be great for Boston. could also see the bulls, Lakers, thunder or clips making a play at him.

Wouldn't mind taking him off the bench in Phoenix, even though we have enough wings.

RJ is having trouble staying with SFs. He's no SG.

Seeya later RJ. You did little of nothing useful while in San Antonio.

Yeah he could be really usefull at the 3, but he won't be Caron though, but maybe we offer him a year and they can try and that whole wait for next year and go for CPS or D-Will which I still doubt will happen.

Mavs have to wait until no one picks RJ off the 'modified waiver' list.

But believe me, RJ hasn't got much game left.

Glad he's gone from the Spurs but I think they could have traded him, hopefully some team take at least half of his contract. I like the rookie they drafted so hopefully he starts sooner than later. Butler is a good sign since he can play 2 positions and not hurt developement of Kawhi. They still need a big though, unless Splitter turns into someone, Blair can push around bigger bodies and WIN, Dyess returns

How does some team take half of RJ's contract from the Spurs. other than the modified waiver process?

I think Sacramento will claim part of his salary off waivers. They've been looking for SF help for some time now.

RJ sucks. I was STUNNED when RJ opted out and Spurs signed him for all that money.

It was quite apparent to me that after '09-'10 season, RJ wasn't even worth the MLE.

Both guys would be great fit to be honest they are great defenders and are great citzens on and off the court. but i would personally perfer Butler as he has more offense.

Nah Battier signs with the Heat, Buter with the Spurs, Crawford with the Bulls, T-Mac with the Hawks, and Hill with the Knicks. Book it! ;)

Battier hands dow. Sure he's getting older, and not the defender he once was, but he is the type of SF that fits the Spurs system since he would be our defender, and guy that just knocks down the 3. I'm just not high on Butler coming off that big knee injury, and I think he would be a lateral move to RJ to be honest, he would jsut come cheaper. I really don't think he fits our system because IMO he needs the ball to be an effective scorer, and the SF position for us doesn't get the ball a lot for isolation. We use them as a spot shooter, or good for a few offensive plays per game.

Battier I think would be cheaper than Butler, and we might still have a little money to make an offer to a big which is our most pressing need.

Also Josh Howard with the Pacers or Nets.
