View Full Version : Which team do you consider your team's main rival?

12-06-2011, 06:16 PM
Just a simple thread to generate discussion about team rivalries. Which team do you think currently deserves to be considered your teams main rival?

I'll go first, I'm a Bulls fan so I think the main rivalry is with the Heat. Some people say our biggest rival is the Pistons or the Celtics or the Pacers. There have been storied rivalries in the past but things change.

12-06-2011, 06:17 PM
I hate the Knicks and always will

12-06-2011, 06:17 PM
My team has never been good enough to be taken serious as an aponent. so the answer is no one.

12-06-2011, 06:18 PM

Wizards=any team thats decent, but back when the wiz and cavs had those mid 2000's teams it was cool

12-06-2011, 06:19 PM
My team has never been good enough to be taken serious as an aponent. so the answer is no one.

Shouldnt the answer be "we have a bloodlust for whatever team ****s up and gets VC?"

12-06-2011, 06:24 PM
knicks heat has more passion for me then bulls heat

12-06-2011, 06:26 PM
San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.

12-06-2011, 06:26 PM
Currently? The Lakers-OKC rivalry is badass.

The I-5 rivalry between the Sonics and Blazers were the **** though.

12-06-2011, 06:31 PM
Miami vs. Knicks...cuz i have alot of friends who like the knicks and its fun watching them get rofflestomped when we meet up to watch the games.

12-06-2011, 06:34 PM
Miami Heat.... Chicago Bulls... Boston Celtics.

Nets and Sixers as well.

12-06-2011, 06:35 PM
Net fan. So Knicks and Celtics, but I also hate the Lakers and Heat. Not fond of Mavs.

12-06-2011, 06:35 PM
Bulls, Mavs, Celtics, Knicks.

But since the big 3, basically the world lol.

12-06-2011, 06:44 PM
Bulls, Mavs, Celtics, Knicks.

But since the big 3, basically every anti-gay group in the world.

12-06-2011, 06:46 PM
Heat all time- Knicks
Now - Bulls and Mavs

12-06-2011, 06:46 PM
For the Suns it's the Lakers.
Once Duncan and Nash retire (or leave their current teams) the Suns/Spurs rivalry will be gone forever.

12-06-2011, 06:47 PM
As a Lakers fan, our eternal rival is the Celtics. :puke:

12-06-2011, 06:48 PM
The Bobcats biggest rival has been Atlanta from what I've seen here.

12-06-2011, 06:54 PM
As a Knick fan I'd say 1st Boston cuz of divison, but historically since I've been a fan 20+ yrs Bulls and Heat. Prior to our decade of garbage we had wars with both of those teams... A bunch of game 7's, fights and bloodshed... Its always sweet to beat the Celtics, Bulls & Heat... Copyrights 2011 LOL...

12-06-2011, 06:56 PM
As a Mavericks fan I honestly would have to say Heat/San Antonio

12-06-2011, 06:57 PM
Shouldnt the answer be "we have a bloodlust for whatever team ****s up and gets VC?"

the only time the team was relevant was when carter was here. the only time the team every passed the first round was when we had carter. the only glimps of small success i ever enjoyed as a raptor fan was because of carter.

I simply think we havent won enough to make any other team hate us, or consider us a threat or think any thing other then "win" when they see the raps on their scheduale lol

12-06-2011, 07:00 PM
I hate the Knicks and always will

i hate the heat and always will 2 lol i also hate the bulls celtics and pacers

I'm a Rockets fan, and I'd say the three biggest rivals are (in descending order):

3. Boston Celtics - During the 70s when the Rockets and Moses Malone were in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics regularly kept them from the Finals and in 81, the Rockets faced off against Boston after moving to the West only to lose in the Finals. The Hakeem/Ralph Sampson duo also lost the Finals in six games to the Celtics in 1986, arguably the greatest NBA team of all time.

2. Los Angeles Lakers - The Rockets beat the Showtime Lakers in 86 and they have faced one another numerous times in the postseason, the most recent being that hard fought seven-game series a few years ago in which Yao suffered the foot injury he never really recovered from and Artest and Kobe constantly got into it. Kermit Washington also ruined Rudy T's career in one sucker punch, one of the worst moment's in NBA history, IMO.

1. Utah Jazz - I tell everyone that will listen how much I hate the Jazz, anyone who has ever played for the Jazz or anything involving the state of Utah. I loathe Karl Malone so much, I jump at any chance I can get to call him the most overrated NBA "great" of all time. The two teams were bitter rivals in the 90s and it carried into the 2000s with the T-Mac/Yao and D-Will/Boozer teams. I even hate the role players on Jazz teams: Ostertag, Harpring, Russell, Hornacek, Okur, Kirilenko. Whenever someone mentions the Rockets acquiring a Jazz player or former Jazz player, I'm quick to remind them that they played for the Jazz and how the glorious red Rockets jersey would likely burn their blasphemous skin.

Suns fan.

Lakers and Spurs.

12-06-2011, 07:07 PM
Yup, Houston and Utah. We hate you guys too. Haha.

12-06-2011, 07:15 PM
Miami versus every non-Miami team/fan currently.

The Wolves have never been a team that developed a rival imo, but as a fan of theirs, I especially hated the David Robinson/Tim Duncan era Spurs.

12-06-2011, 07:16 PM
My favorite team is the pacers ...my two favorite rival are..... pacers vs knicks ,then pacers vs bulls.

12-06-2011, 07:16 PM
As suns fan lakers, spurs, mavs in that order.

12-06-2011, 07:21 PM
lol right now the detroit lions biggest rival is the detroit lions

12-06-2011, 07:25 PM
Pretty much every team. If your team and it's fans hate the Heat, i'll hate you guys too.

12-06-2011, 07:26 PM
I honestly don't know...

The Heat and Magic haven't ever played a meaningful game ever. They're good at the opposite times. Besides that, IDK. Boston maybe? But even that was just for a 2 or so year span...

12-06-2011, 07:33 PM
Seems like the Hawks' main rivals are Boston (from the 'Nique/Bird duel to the '08 playoff series) and Orlando (recent playoff matchups and they have our hometown guy) because those are the two teams that generate the most talk on local radio. There was a nice rivalry with the Charlotte Hornets in the 1990s also.

12-06-2011, 07:33 PM
Lakers without a doubt. NorCal SoCal thing.

Or Kings..NorCal thing.

12-06-2011, 07:35 PM
OKC and Jazz. SA is a close second.

12-06-2011, 07:36 PM
This year, Spurs-Memphis

All time - Spurs-Mavs

12-06-2011, 07:51 PM
wow alot oof knicks rivals i hate the celtics the most

12-06-2011, 07:51 PM
knicks heat has more passion for me then bulls heat

That's cause there's more history. I think a lot will change in 5 years. Especially if Knicks don't get a third star and Amare's knees inevitably break down soon.

12-06-2011, 08:43 PM
As a Sixers fan, I HATE the Celtics and the Knicks

12-06-2011, 08:56 PM
The Celtics...**** Paul Pierce!

The Heat...**** Lebron

The Nets...DoMeFavors pretty much created that one hahaha

Dade County

I hate the Knicks and always will

I hate no one... but if the knicks would just disappear one day, I wouldn't ask any questions.

12-06-2011, 09:03 PM
Knicks, Celtics, and Magic. The Magic are in state, we had a few years where we were competitive at the same time in the late 90s and recently, plus with all the **** Otis Smith talks you'd swear he's not completely incompetent at his job

12-06-2011, 09:04 PM
I hate no one... but if the knicks would just disappear one day, I wouldn't ask any questions.

nicely said

12-06-2011, 09:07 PM
San Antonio

Right now the LAL/OKC rivalry is looking pretty epic. well see if it develops or if playoffs 2010 was a one and done.

12-06-2011, 09:08 PM
Mavericks, Bulls, Knicks, as well as every other team in the league today.......

12-06-2011, 10:14 PM
In our division, all but NOH.
Otherwise OKC. Really will be OKC moving forward.

12-07-2011, 12:16 AM
Mavericks, Bulls, Knicks, as well as every other team in the league today.......

imo you can't have a meaningful rivalry with a team that's much better or much worse than you. A rivalry is only relevant if both teams are competitive. That's why I don't consider the Piston or Pacers to be Bulls' rivals any more.

12-07-2011, 12:20 AM
Chicago Bulls only because they are the only team that will compete against Miami in the East for like the next 5 years. Also, if we ever play OKC in the Finals. Add them too.

12-07-2011, 12:32 AM
My team has never been good enough to be taken serious as an aponent. so the answer is no one.

:clap::D:clap:Thanks for the laugh:D:clap:
Nets and Heat

12-07-2011, 08:42 AM
The Knicks

Everything else is a just a made up rivalry for TV with no real history.

There needs to be history between two teams. A history of technicals, fights, ejections by the officials, blood, thrash talking, drama, etc etc.

This rivalry transcends the NBA. Look in almost all sports there are big rivalries with NY/Miami. Miami hates NY. Hell people in Florida hate NYers. Real Floridians know that NYers move down here, complain about how Florida sucks and how NY is great, but do they move back? Hell no, they just stay down here making it miserable for the rest of us. Its the doucheness of the transplants that fuels this one and the fact there there are so many NY transplants here that come to the games. That's part of the reason there have been so much hate between the two cities in sports. Knicks/Heat and Jets/Dolphins, anyone?

Good match ups do not count as a real rivalry.

So if your not the Knicks, please go with this nonsense. Your not our rivals. As much as you'd like to think it.

12-07-2011, 08:47 AM
Lakers, Clippers and Mavs. Spurs piss me off as well they get lucky too much.

12-07-2011, 09:00 AM
