The NBA lockout isn't officially over just yet but as soon as it is, the Phoenix Suns are planning to waive veteran Vince Carter rather than pay out his $18 million salary, according to ESPN.

The 34-year-old eight-time All-Star joined the Suns in December of last year along with Marcin Gortat, and Mickael Pietrus (along with $3 million and a first-round draft pick) as part of a trade with the Orlando Magic that had Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson, and Earl Clark headed to Florida. He averaged 14 points, 3.8 rebounds, and two assists per game last year.

The fifth overall pick in the 1998 draft by the Golden State Warriors, Carter was then traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he earned the rookie of the year.

Sign J-Rich to lockdown backup 3, and Vince Carter to lockdown backup 2....maybe no? Not likely that we'd get both but I wouldnt mind having Carter on the roster.

We are 10 million under the cap, if we use the amnesty clause on Biedrins we would be 19 million under the cap. Assuming we sign Chandler around 12-14 million we would be 5-7 million under the cap. We need that money to sure up backup point guard and backup shooting guard. I think we will end up re-signing Reggie Williams, so I think we'll be broke.

I think we need some defensive minded players. I would pass on Vince.

Amen.

Arron Afflalo is actually the perimeter defender we should get.

What is Afflalo's contract? Wont we have to trade for him? Is he RFA?

The Bulls are trying to sign and trade for him, so I think he is a RFA.

I'd say let's get him, since he's a California kid, grew up in LA. But, where do we play him? We either trade Klay Thompson or Monta for him...but who will we get back? Afflalo and..?

i wanna keep klay and see what the kid can do... if west wanted him so badly there has got to be a reason why. as for trading ellis id be all for it if we got nene or any legit big but afflalo and filler is not enough.

naw birdman is a solid sub on a legit team but we need more than that for one of our best players and seeing as ellis is an undersized sg were not gonna be able to trade him for a big, or atleast a legit one, were gonna have to make a trade like ellis for iggy or gay and then cut bean and try and convince a big to come here
