View Full Version : UPDATE Post #45: Kapono to sign 1 year deal with Lakers on Friday

KB-Pau-DH2012

Jason Kapono will visit the Lakers on Monday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Kapono played in just 24 regular season games for Philadelphia last season and was an afterthought with the team. He'd be nothing more than a situational shooter off the bench for the Lakers, and it's unlikely he'd cost more than the veteran's minimum to sign. There's no fantasy value to be found here unless a slew of injuries occurs no matter where he lands next. Dec 5 - 12:27 PM

I agree accept for the fact that Goudelock is unproven on the professional level and Kapono i think will be more of a just in case type player unless him being back home somehow revives his game and if that happens than hed be perfect for us.

Hopefully we get the Kapono of 05-07 that played with the Heat and was part of the 06 Heat championship team. We don't exactly know if he's still got it because he's been so bench-ridden the last couple of seasons with the Raps and Sixers since he left Miami.

He'd sign for the vet minimun $1 million so we shouldn't be worried about that. I agree with Iron24th, this could be the shooter we've been missing since Vujacic a few years ago.

Kapono is much bigger. I do want to see the rookies play as well, especially being that they would be taking playing time away no "D", Erek Fisher.

I do like Jason for the Vets Min.. Shooters dont need that much to get back into rhythm so I wouldnt worry about Rust.. Im pretty sure he's been training hard to get back to form, especially since he may be in one of the bigger markets where everything you do is big... Also with Kapono on the floor it keeps an extra defender off Kobe and Pau.

NBA teams can't sign free agents until Friday, but the Lakers met with Kapono and were close to a deal for one or two years and about $1.3 million annually.

The Lakers would sign Kapono for a minimum veteran's salary and wouldn't have to dip into their main free-agent tool -- a three-year, $9.4-million contract known as the mini mid-level exception.

I hope its not true

Why?

Our best shot at hitting an outside shot last year were Bryant, fisher, and Odom who teams would all sit on. He would be cheap and can hit shots. He is bigger than the rook, has no misguided notion about being an offensive creator like Shannon, and has stones enough to not play hot potato when open like Blake.

His problem is staying on the floor defensively, but he's a great shooter (obv) and can overcome his poor D if he gets enough touches to have a 15+pt game.

Agree, people look at him like that because of his last season,he wasn't on the active roster for almost the entire season, and when he was,he played like 1 or 2 min in garbage, hard to do anything in this case.

When given a chance to be THE shooter in a good team like Miami,he waq pretty good,he knows the game at the biggest stage.

I think he can be that player again, especially in our team, knowing our needs.

Nah, Sasha is a good practice 3 pt shooter, and the only season that actually translated out on the basketball during in-game on a consistent basis was the 07-08 season.

Kapono, although not the feisty and annoying defender like Sasha, is a stud on a consistent basis from 3-pt range on the practice court and in-game throughout his entire career. (W/ the exception of the last yr or so b/c he barely got any playing time with the Sixers).

But with Mike Brown's defense, all Kapono is has to concentrate on really is rotational defense and at times zone defense, not so much man-to-man defense (we have MWP and Barnes to take care of that).

And he would cost 5 times as much. Laker's have to look for quality bargains; players that can play that need fresh start (Kapono); quality players who have made their money and want a ring, etc.

Sasha gets playing time in Jersey and that is good for him.
