View Full Version : Pierce, Garnett leading movement to get Hunter out as head of NBAPA

Not unexpectedly given how painful this entire fiasco has been, it won't end without one more dose of drama.

While the deal is expected to pass overwhelmingly, a potential sideshow could emerge regarding the future of NBPA executive director Billy Hunter. As CBSSports.com reported Wednesday, there is an insurgency being led by a handful of agents who are attempting to have their clients' votes approving the new CBA contingent on Hunter agreeing to return as head of the union only on an interim basis. As far as player involvement, the movement is being led by Celtics stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, multiple sources told CBSSports.com.

Doubt this surprises anyone, but Hunters days as head of the NBAPA are looking numbered.

No way this guy is back. He took his own personal agenda ahead of the needs of the players and cost them a lot of money by refusing to let individual players vote and agree on a more than fair deal for both sides.

Yeah, he needs to go. I do think they got a good deal honestly, but it seems like he lead very poorly and left a lot of people out of the loop.

Smh. Just cus they already won a championship and know they won't be able to again

What a horrible post. Anyway, it's good that he's leaving. His handling of the lockout was questionable at best.

Do you realize that post playing career benefits are usually a huge issue in these types of negotiations. So Pierce and Garnett actually have a huge reason to be invested in this.

You could or couldn't care less? ;)

I don't get the anger here. These aren't the only two guys who probably don't like Hunter...I'd bet a majority have some sort of issue with him. It's probably best for the players as a whole that this happens, and these are two of the most respected guys in the league, so who better to lead the effort?

Well I disagree on it being a fair deal, but I do agree w/ the rest of your statement. Also, the players were playing checkers w/ PR, while Stern was playing chess. It's interesting to see, where the NBAPA goes from here.

Agree with this.

They're two of the older players, they've been around for a while, and they were both quite outspoken during the lockout. I dont know about KG, but I know Pierce was often looked to for advice during the lockout, and he was one of the more vocal players fighting for a higher percentage of the BRI.

I think they're just heading the movement, it's not like they're going rogue from the union or anything. I'm sure they have a lot of player support.

Under the circumstances the deal the players are getting is great. Nobody thought they were going to get as much as they did and at the last min they got them. Not thrilled with Hunters' tactics many times he seemed overwhelmed and unprepared, but the results seem to work for the players.
