Itís not official yet (and may not be for a couple weeks) but we have a pretty good idea what the new NBA opening day will look like.

Which is exactly what the old Christmas Day schedule looked like.

That slate of games was to and most likely will start where the NBA labor talks were settled ó New York City ó where the Knicks will host the Boston Celtics. Two marquee franchises looking to challenge the Heat and Bulls for supremacy in the East.

That will be followed by a rematch of the NBA finals, with the Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks hosting the Miami Heat. Dirk Nowitzki vs. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade again. That game would be broadcast on ABC.

Finally, the Chicago Bulls and MVP Derrick Rose will travel to Los Angeles to take on Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. That game also was to be on ABC.

After that the schedule is anybodyís guess. To cram 66 games into the amount of time left will mean a more condensed schedule than the 50-game one we saw after the 1999 lockout. Itís going to produce some tired legs and sloppy games. And we have no idea which direction this season will go.

But pretty much know how it will start.

They should change them up a bit. I don't like the Heat going to Dallas on Xmas day watching the ring ceremony. When was the last time the finals loser watched a ring ceremony of the team that beat them the prior year?

Just make it Miami/Chicago, LA/OKC and NY/Dallas

i actually would prefer to watch rose go head to head with kobe. its a better match up for me personally.

and the mavs vs the heat rematch has more excitment behind it.

I think its amazing. Salt in an open wound. Your very next game after losing the finals is in Dallas watching them get their rings. If that doesnt make your blood boil and push you to be better and perform better you dont belong on the court.

I love it.

I'd normally agree with that, but we are talking about a sensitive bunch.

What a way to start the season. I predict that Lebron will be on fire in Dallas. Heat will win by 15+ Lebron will go for 40

Why can't the Lakers play on the road on christmas for once?

It'd be nice to have my family all together that day just once. (My dad works in the building)

It should be

LA @ NY ( L.A needs to travel for these Christmas games.... The biggest markets )

OKC @ Bulls ( KD vs Rose... Their the future of the league )

HEAT @ Dallas ( Drama!... Great story lines )

Boston @ Memphis (Memphis deserves it)... or clippers, because of blake griffin.

Hopefully Dallas plays early so I can have Christmas lunch while the game is going on and not watch them. Bulls v Lakers game and the Knicks one should be good though.

This sums up why I cant stand these new Blake Griffin fan boys. A few dunks, and all these people are riding his dick.

I really don't care about Blake Griffin, but The Media does, so that will drive up ratings....

And thats what these christmas games are about...... right?

I really don't like the idea of any sporting teams playing on Christmas. Basketball is the only sport which does so, I believe.

Heat-103
Mavs-95

Lebron goes for 38, 10 assists, 7 rebounds
Wade adds in 27

Imagine the horror, the league wants to give Griffin exposure and bring some ratings in during Christmas evening.

Griffin is the league's newest superstar. He will get exposure. It has nothing to do with a "little" dunks. He's a great player.

Kevin Love will get some ESPN exposure as well. I think they have a game against Houston sometime in December. It's what the NBA does.

I don't think Heat/Mavs is a good idea for opener (ring ceremony), we don't need a brawl to start NBA season.

2004 Red Sox did it. Red Sox home opener they did the ceremony and they were playing the Yankees.

They are the same division and this is baseball as the Red Sox hadn't won in like 90 years. Totally different dude.

Question, why is this game not the prime time game that day? I can understand the past 3 years with the Lakers because they were in the finals, but I see no reason why they should be the prime time game this year?

Boston at New York 12:00 PM ESPN
Miami at Dallas 2:30 PM ABC
Chicago at LA Lakers 5:00 PM ABC

Mavs win by 8 or 9.

Lakers win in a blowout.
