Poughkeepsie has home court advantage

Poughkeepsie:

Congrats to nyanks79 for making it to the 2nd round. It'll be a great match up.

Poughkeepsie Mute Spittahs:
PG: Chauncey Billups(32)/Toney Douglas(16)
SG: DeMar DeRozan(28)/OJ Mayo(20)/Anthony Parker
SF: Kevin Durant(35)/Richard Jefferson(13)
PF: Tim Duncan(30)/Udonis Haslem(18)/Reggie Evans
C: Joakim Noah(30)/Robin Lopez(18)

6th man: OJ Mayo

PG matchup:

Player G W L GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
Tony Parker 20 11 9 19 34.6 6.7 13.4 .496 0.4 1.2 .333 2.4 3.2 .750 0.4 2.1 2.5 5.3 1.1 0.1 3.2 2.0 16.1
Chauncey Billups 20 9 11 18 32.4 4.2 11.2 .371 1.0 3.3 .308 4.0 4.2 .940 0.4 2.8 3.2 4.9 1.0 0.2 2.4 2.1 13.3

Basically the same across the board. Both are great PGs and can run any team deep into the playoffs. Billups and Parker both have a lot of experience in the playoffs, while both of them have won it all before.

Advantage: Even

SG matchup:

Player G W L GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
Dwyane Wade 5 4 1 5 37.8 10.0 19.0 .526 0.6 2.0 .300 7.4 9.2 .804 1.0 4.8 5.8 4.8 1.6 1.2 2.6 2.2 28.0
DeMar DeRozan 5 1 4 4 31.6 4.2 9.2 .457 0.0 0.6 .000 4.4 5.2 .846 0.8 4.2 5.0 1.0 1.4 0.4 1.2 3.0 12.8

Wade is a top 5 player, and DeRozan has a ton of potential. I think this is a no brainer, just a bad match up for DeRozan.

Advantage: Richmond

SF matchup:

Player G W L GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
Nicolas Batum 10 5 5 9 29.5 4.2 8.8 .477 1.2 3.3 .364 1.2 1.4 .857 1.6 2.0 3.6 1.1 0.8 0.7 1.0 2.7 10.8
Kevin Durant 10 5 5 10 39.7 8.7 20.3 .429 2.0 5.5 .364 7.0 7.8 .897 0.9 6.4 7.3 2.2 1.3 1.5 3.1 2.7 26.4

No question. Durant would man-handle Batum like is was his day job (and it is.)

Advantage: Poughkeepsie

PF matchup:

Player G W L GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
Tim Duncan 23 16 7 23 32.4 6.4 12.5 .514 0.0 0.1 .500 3.9 5.5 .706 2.3 7.3 9.7 3.0 0.4 1.7 1.9 2.1 16.8
David West 23 7 16 22 35.3 8.2 15.4 .531 0.2 0.2 .800 2.2 2.8 .781 1.7 5.8 7.5 2.0 1.0 0.8 1.7 2.9 18.7

This would be an interesting matchup. Duncan is one of the best PFs to ever live, but it shows that West has better numbers. Do you go by the better numbers (mostly just points, by the way) or do you go by who you would trust more? Duncan should be the answer. He would out rebound West down low on both sides of the ball, and since he has Durant on his team, he won't need as many looks as he might need.

Advantage: Poughkeepsie

C matchup:

Player G W L GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
Andrew Bynum 4 4 0 3 28.0 5.3 10.3 .512 0.0 0.0 3.0 3.8 .800 2.3 5.3 7.5 1.0 0.3 1.5 2.5 3.0 13.5
Joakim Noah 4 0 4 3 23.3 2.8 7.8 .355 0.0 0.0 0.8 1.8 .429 5.8 5.0 10.8 1.8 1.5 2.3 1.8 2.8 6.3

These stats above are only from '07-'09. Both are very young and very talented on the defensive side of the ball. It would be an interesting matchup to watch because of how they would defend each other. They didn't play each other last year (I'm guessing due to injuries), but I'm sure most of the numbers wouldn't change. I think it's a pretty evenly balanced matchup.

Advantage: Even

As far as the benches go, I don't see a real "threat" coming off the bench. I think my bench pieces credit my starters very well and having OJ Mayo as my 6th man can still bring me scoring to take a load off of Durant's chest. I still have the defense with Douglas at the PG position, with Haslem and Lopez in the front court and Jefferson to backup Durant. I have experience throughout my team, and no attitude problems.

Thanks for reading my write up and taking the time to do so. In advance, I'd like to thank you for your vote. It's much appreciated. Get Poughkeepsie to the Conference Finals!

Those stats hurt Poughkeepsie a lot more than they helped.

Parker has better numbers than Billups.
Wade destroys Derozan.
Batum forces Durant into 40% shooting from the field.
West outscores Duncan.
Bynum destroys Noah.

-i think the pg position is pretty even. billups can still contribute to any team he is on, and is a great leader.

-wade has the edge over derozan so you're right there.

-durant is one of the most prolific scores in the game today. doesn't matter who is guarding him, he's still going to do it at will. i don't see batum as a threat to stopping durant at all.

-i said west outscores duncan, but duncan also has a lot of history behind him. he's one of, if not the greatest PF in nba history. there's no way west could win that matchup.

-idk about bynum "destroying" noah. bynum would also have to be healthy to play in the series. both are defensive specialists, which is why i said it was even.

and because duncan is so old, i have haslem, who is also great on defense, to back him up. i think i built a good enough bench to compliment my starters to stay ahead in this series. there is no one on his bench that can still "score at will" like wade can. when wade takes a seat, their scoring drops. there is no spark off the bench that can consistently score like wade would and with him taking minutes on the bench would hurt him. he can't play 48 minutes for 7 games.

and he didn't even send in a write up to argue for his team..

But you don't even have someone to slow Wade down in the first place. Also, if you really want to get into bench scoring I'd still take Vince Carter over OJ Mayo, especially in a playoff series. Mayo was terrible last year and he's your 6th man.

i think mayo is a good enough 6th man.

You pretty much sent it in for me. Only thing to change would be the jokes saying Parker and Bynum are even.

so you're saying that billups is not a top pg in the league? not the best, but not good at all? billups can hold his own and is considered one of the better pgs in the league. bynum has been hurt for most of his short career so far. noah hasn't. those stats between noah and bynum are from 07-09. what does that say? bynum didn't play because he was injured, so to say that bynum is better than noah is a joke. i'm not saying noah is the best center in the league, but he's right up there.

since durant wins his match up, and wade wins his (both by landslides), defensively, i will switch it up.

billups on parker
durant on wade
derozan on batum
duncan on west
noah on bynum

by switching durant on to wade, i think it opens this series up to the benches, which i still feel mine is more balanced and constructed better with vets and reasonable backups. wade and durant are both phenomenal players on offense, and both play good defense as well.. so i think it would be a great match up there.

I picked Poughkeepsie Mute Spittahs because I liked their bench better. It was a very, very close match up.

thank you. coming into this match up, i knew it would be close. i just hate that there's only 11 total votes. he has a very good back court which will be difficult to beat, but i think my team could do well against him, especially with the post season experience and leaders i have.

Very tight, but I give the slight edge to Poughkeepsie.
