NBA All Time Redraft Voting!
The following teams have been assembled and are now playing each other in a fantasy first round match up. For this game please assume that all players are in their primes and playing at the top of their game. Injuries are not a factor for this game as every single player is playing at his best.

Please take the time to read the write ups and put some thought into your vote as many of the GMís in this spent a lot of time on this game.

No this obviously isnít real.

If you think itís stupid go to another thread.

Other than that have fun and argue for whom you believe has the better team.

Knicks Write Up -

Congrats to Phlp. He took over an abandoned team and did a good job putting together a talented roster. Unfortunately, I donít believe that roster fits together at all. First weíll discuss the Knicks.

Knicks Team Breakdown:
The Knicks surrounded the greatest player of all-time, Michael Jordan, with pieces that would compliment his game. Itís like the recent Lakers championship teams but better. He has a highly efficient #2 option with an complete offensive game and good passing skills. Pau Gasol is an ideal side kick who knows how to score/defend and fits his role to perfection. Next to him in the frontcourt is the most efficient scorer (highest FG% and TS%) in NBA History, 20-10-2 the 7'2 big man Artis Gilmore. Not only was Gilmore the most efficient scorer of all-time (with his unstoppable lefty post jumphook) but he was also an all-defensive team big man who has the size to matchup with Chamberlain better than most. Itís safe to say I trust him on Wilt more than Iíd trust Earl Monroe or David Thompson guarding Jordan. In addition to the best frontcourt Jordanís ever played with, he has two of the best 3pt shooters in NBA History in Detlef Schrempf and former PG teammate Steve Kerr to space the floor. Both who shot over 50% from 3pt during a full Nba season. If you ever collapsed the paint these two would make you pay. Finally locking down on Tiny is arguably the 2nd best defensive PG in NBA History (behind Payton) former DPOY Alvin Robertson who is the all-time NBA leader in steals per game with an absurd 2.7 per game for his career.

Mavericks Team Breakdown:
The Mavs have a scoring PG, a scoring SG, a scoring SF, a rebounding PF, and a scoring C. Where are the role players? Where are the shooters? Where is the defensive besides Wilt? They canít slow down Jordan and would have an impossible job sharing the ball. The ball-hogging for these players has proven to be a detriment to their teams. Wilt averaged 44ppg in 1963 but his team went 31-49. Tiny averaged 34ppg in 1973 and his team went 36-46. I believe this team has a lot of talent and could have possibly made some trades to balance them out. However, as constructed their starting 5 would be a poor fit and would not be able to beat our Knicks in a 7 game series.

Mavericks - Write up -

First off, congratulations to the New York Knicks on being the #1 seed and creating a very solid team in this redraft. May the best team win.

C: Wilt Chamberlain vs. Artis Gilmore - If i were somehow to win this matchup, it'll be because of the center position. Even though Gilmore is a very good player, I don't believe he will be able to stop Wilt. Not a lot of people were able to stop Wilt back in the day. He has insane career averages of 30.1ppg, 4.4apg, 22.9rpg. His rebound totals coupled with his great height and scoring ability will be too much for even Gilmore to stop in this series.

PF: Jerry Lucas vs. Pau Gasol - 7 time All-Star Jerry Lucas goes up against Pau Gasol. Gasol is a very versatile player that is capable of doing many things. He can hit the midrange jumper, shoot with both hands, etc.. Lucas has more of a defensive mindset and is a ferocious rebounder. Lucas has career averages of 17.0ppg, 3.3apg, 15.6rpg. He may not score a lot, but he with Wilt on the team, he won't be needed to score a whole lot in the post either. Him and Wilt will be rebounding monsters grabbing every loose ball and missed shot, giving us more opportunities to score.

SF: David Thompson vs. Detlef Schrempf - Thompson is a flat out scorer. Even though he is a bit undersized in this matchup, he will be a strong number 2 option on this Mavs team behind Wilt. He has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the court, which will create havoc for Schrempf. Schrempf is mostly a role player that has won a couple 6th man of the year awards. I don't see him being able to stay on Thompson for an entire game nor stopping his quickness. He has career averages of 26.0ppg, 3.7apg, 6.3rpg. Even Jordan himself said, "The whole measuring of vertical leap began with David Thompson".

SG: Earl Monroe vs. Michael Jordan - This is a pretty one sided matchup. Everyone knows Jordan is the best, if not one of the best basketball players of all time. He does not need any explanation. Monroe is a 4 time NBA All-Star and is a solid scorer. We have many guys to throw at Jordan on our bench though if Monroe gets into foul trouble. Jordan will always get his points, so the SG matchup is a clear win for the Knicks.

PG: Tiny Archibald vs. Alvin Robertson - Robertson's first position is at SG, so he is somewhat playing out of position at PG even though he can play well there. He is not much of a distributor being a career 5.0apg average. Archibald is a natural point guard. His main job on the Mavs will be to dish the ball out to our star players. He has career averages of 18.8ppg, 7.4apg, 1.1spg. Archibald can score if he wanted to, but given Robertson is a defensive specialist, he probably won't score much. Therefore, he can focus on his assist totals this entire series. Archibald has blinding quickness and incredible speed and shiftiness that make him extremely difficult to guard in the open court.

Both benches consist of quality players that have been starters for their respective teams in real life, but are bench players in this redraft. The Mavericks key guys are Paul Arizin, Jamal Mashburn, Terry Cummings and Jalen Rose. All are flat out scorers and more than good rebounders. They should spell our starters nicely. The Knicks have AK47, Jim Jackson and Big Z. Both quality benches for both teams.

In the end, this will all come down to the star players each of the teams have. Jordan for the Knicks and Wilt for the Mavs. Both will be scoring at will given their respective positions. I feel like we have more scorers on the court to compliment and take the load off of Wilt. Jordan never had a post player like Pau, so no one knows how he would do. Maybe his touches will be less, maybe not. Wilt will touch the ball every time down the court and we will run the offense through him. This will be a hard fought series, but if Wilt produces the way he should in the paint, we should be able to sneak out with an upset win in 7 games.

too easy. both GMs made excellent teams, and being in this conference, it was not easy to make the playoffs. congrats to both and good luck.

This might be the only blowout of any of the match-ups in the entire redraft (sorry Phlp) But the Knicks are the superior team, especially with one of the better defensive centers ever in Gilmore on Wilt

Mavs have A good team, But Knicks win.

The Mavs are a good team, but I don't feel like phlp did a good job of addressing the two biggest areas of concern... defending MJ and Pau. He's got undersized, average to slightly above average defenders playing against two offensive monsters and didn't even try to address that with his bench or trying something clever with his roster. I do feel like his advantages at C and SF would help him win one game (a close one in which Wilt would have to completely go off for like 40/15/5), but I don't see this being that close even if he had tried to address the concerns at SG and PF.

No this obviously isnít real.

If you think itís stupid go to another thread.

Well said.

I like the Knicks here but I really like Mavs drive and kick game with Archibald/Williams and their perimeter guys. Anchored by Wilt, I think that would be a very effective offense.
