Yeah, we need to step up our game in this forum. The lack of posts in the GT's is pathetic.

Do you guys feel like Redden could still be a #6 defenseman in this league? I've seen him once in the AHL, and he looked fantastic. He was sent down due to his cap, and him not playing well enough to earn it. That's fine, but I still believe he can play as a number six.

Yea I definitely think so. His struggles were exaggerated because of that cap hit.

I mean, he'd be relatively ****** like most other third pairing dmen but he's still good enough to be an nhl player.

Avery having another solid game, I think the demotion reinvigurated him, he looks sharper and quicker on the puck. Good to see him back to the way he was when we signed him first. As for the Redden comment, he'd be fine on any team but not in a top four role and not for his current salary. IMO he's a better option than Woywitka, but he's too expensive.

Of course when we get a great win streak its littered with the fact that Avery was around right after it started. I will admit he's played better but I hate the fact that this gives Avery lovers a stance such as "6-0-0 with Avery!!!!~~!~!!!!"

Overall, I still don't like him but I'll show some props he's played better and his goal the other night off his hustle was nice.

Yea, like the whole Garden crowd. Screw those Avery lovers that have been chanting his name for the past two weeks. I'd rather side with the Avery haters who've been on his case for no apparent reason and didn't even want him to get a fair shot in camp.

bsi
11-17-2011, 03:54 PM
I like the way he's played of late but he hasn't played like this since we brought him here originally. People can say what they want but sending him to the minors has brought the best out of him and while he's played the way he should be, it would diminish the accomplishments of our GAS line and the play of Richards,Callahan Girardi, Lundqvist and McDonagh to suggest that the reason we are winning is because of Avery. It's utterly rediculous to think that Avery's 7 mins a game have turned this team around, he's chipped in with a couple goals but really without our GAS line, especially Gaborik we're in the basement. I am however happy with what Avery is currently bringing, if he had played like this all last year we'd have probably had an easier time making the playoffs but to me the biggest reason for our turnaround is that we've played less than steller teams and we've finaly gotten away from that hellish schedule we had starting out, starting next week we'll get a sense of where we fit in the East as we have to play Pitsburgh, Washington, Florida(who are on a roll) and Philly. We still need an upgrade to our 3rd D pairing, Girardi can't continue to play almost 30 mins a night, he's gonna get hurt or burnt out and then we're gonna be in a mess, same goes for McDonagh.

Everyone needs to relax with all of us who love Avery, apparently no one here can take a ****ing joke. Apparently we aren't allowed to be happy with his play and that we're winning. Has anyone actually said we are winning directly because of Avery? We're having a good time with it and everyone else needs to calm the **** down. BTW everyone who said he was a bad player last year and was unproductive he played less minutes than anyone on the team so it's not that easy to be productive with the minutes he played.

You earn your minutes, if he was playing well he'd have gotten more minutes, just like he has the last two games. The first three games back he averaged 4-5 mins, he was up to 11 I believe the last game.

He had to score a goal on his first or second shift just to get ten minutes of ice time. If Torts doesn't want to give him minutes that's fine but his decision to put Sean in Hartford after a good preseason was pretty ****ing stupid.

Tortarella plays his last line very few minutes every game and I honestly think aside from scoring a goal a game he wasn't being moved from that line so I'm not sure how he would have earned more minutes. Regardless I'm not going to continue to post the same things over and over all of you who don't like the avery posts just ignore them, because for one there funny and two they aren't negative or directed at anyone specifically.

bsi
11-23-2011, 06:11 PM
If Stralman is used primarily on the Powerplay he'll be useful, but I wouldn't expect him to be an upgrade to Eminger 5 on 5, but who knows, he could have improved since I saw him play last, but given the fact that we signed him a while ago and he's just playing now, it's not likely.

Florida is much like Montreal now as they have a lot of speed, we're gonna need to bring our best effort tonight.

Great pass by Callahan -- he was back to being the best player on the ice -- but Fedotenko whiffed on the shot and it barely trickled over the goal line. Callahan forced the turnover that got Fedotenko his other goal, too.

For Hags, he’s a fast guy and he uses his speed every shift,” said Mitchell, who was also Hagelin’s linemate with Connecticut (AHL). “He’s the first guy in on the forecheck and we did that effectively and cycled down low. I might not be quite as fast as Hags but I think I can skate, too.”

“It’s moving your legs,” Tortorella said of his team gaining confidence and playing better, faster hockey than the on-their-heels brand they played at Montreal and Florida. “For some reason the past couple of games and I thought for a little bit in the first period tonight, it’s just you end up watching a little bit and you might be thinking too much. It’s just a game of (being) spontaneous. We’ve just got to keep our legs going. You put a guy in like Hagelin, that speed that he has, I just think everybody grows off of that too. Just one or two guys with some speed, I think your team looks quicker. We did it tonight, we’ve got a pretty big one tomorrow against a pretty good hockey club so hopefully we can bring some momentum into there too.”

Source (http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/rangerrants/comments/rangers_6_caps_3_two_debuts_a_quicker_team/)

To me this is a staple of what Torts is trying to do. Having a guy one each line with great speed who can make it past the defenders on a dump in and be the first guy in on the forecheck. It's a great way to beat teams who clog the neutral zone or trap. Once you get the puck down low, let the players like Richards, Gaborik, Stepan, Cally, and Anisimov work their magic. It's why Hagelin is gonna at least be a great third line player for us and it's why Kreider will eventually be a big part of this team imo.

Daniel Briere, the Flyers’ center who has been suspended twice in the last two years for high-sticks to the face, is likely to be facing supplemental discipline for his cross-check to the jaw of Michael Del Zotto at 13:45 of the second period.

Briere was supended for two games two years ago for a high stick against Colorado’s Scott Hannan and received a three-game sentence last year for his crack to Frans Nielsen’s face off a draw.

You wanna talk about a little weasel, perfect candidate right here. Same guy who punched Prust from the bench last year.

Cindy is in town, let'e hope Dubinsky can get under his skin a little tonight.

On a side note I think Crosby will end like Lindros at some point.

I don't think Sid will end up like Eric....Eric had a lot of bad advice given to him with regards to his injuries and was back playing way too early, as well he always had his head down, and he was constantly taking runs at other players something that sets you up for payback. It's amazing that someone never taught Lindros how to skate with his head up and to not put a target on himself. Martin St.Louis is a classic example of a player who is smart and doesn't do anything to attract physical attention besides his skill, much like Sid. When you continue to hammer on teams defense like Lindros did you are gonna get it back.
Personally I'd like for us to not be trying to be a pest to Pitsburgh as all we end up doing is taking penalties and if you take penalties against pitsburgh it's gonna be a long night. The key to this game is to stay out of the box, play smart defense and to capitalize on our PP.

Good points, it is amazing that Lindros never learned after all those big hits.

I just think the Crosby can get under people's skin and some dumbass may take a cheap shot on him.

wow. what an amazing playoff intensity type of game. last year we had trouble playing that fast paced big hitting game because we used to get too caught up in it. but we've got some players that just make smart plays even when its going so fast, great poise.
something nobody has mentioned but our faceoff wins have skyrocketed since the beginning of the season and it has made an incredible difference.

Great win! I'm really loving the addition of Mitchell and Hagelin, they've really helped add another dimension to this team. I really hope they don't get sent down for Rupp or Christensen because I think that would be a big mistake. I'm really liking our team at this point, can't wait for Staal to get back.

Best team in the NHL by far...LETS Goo. Probably not, but it feels like it right now. Hell of a month.

And i love Hagelin..but holy **** they mention his great speed every 20 seconds.

Rangers played great through the first period, despite the bad officiating (they created some excellent chances, but couldn't cash in) and the second period, but those 5-on-3s were the worst power plays I can recall seeing. I don't care how tight the PKers keep their triangle, if you don't shoot the puck, wtf? At least a blocked shot makes them scramble for the puck forcing them out of position and, with the numbers, the PP has a better chance to recover it. Gaborik played great until the crucial misses later on. He's gotta bury those.

Biron tonight. Really hope there is no sort of let up and the Canes could come out fired up with second game under new coach.

Staal and Rupp skating after practice.
