Try and be pessimistic just for the hell of it (anything can happen) but It's over for the most part.

BREAKING: NBA LOCKOUT JUST ABOUT OVER, ACCORDING TO LOW-LEVEL TEAM EMPLOYEES WITH EMAIL ACCESS

After four months, the NBA lockout is in its dying throes, according to multiple team employees who have been informed by the league that business as usual will resume as early as Monday.

The New Jersey Nets ticket sales office, idle for most of the fall, is holding a series of hastily called meetings today under the theme "Be Ready." One staffer tells us that a department-wide email has been circulated, instructing employees that "it's time to get back to work." The short-staffed 76ers' team office has been told that Monday will be "all hands on deck," as per orders from the league.

As talks enter their third day, progress has already made on salary cap issues and an amnesty clause, and the only major remaining road block is BRI. As of this morning, the two sides were reported to be only 2.5 percent apart. All the employees we spoke to say the mood among their office higher-ups is to expect an agreement to be reached in principle by the end of the weekend, but also that they don't actually know anything because they are in fact low-level team employees. HIT THE SIREN.

The NBA Rosters are now appearing on NBA.com as well to confirm this.

Me neither.. It's a game we all enjoy, to wish injury is immature and ridiculous.. plus.. FLASH.. your sig says Wade>Lebron and I'm not a heat fan.. yes this is true, but you're a wade fan so obviously it's still biased

I always thought that they would settle this because of the big network deals the NBA has. Were talking about billions of dollars directly tied to the NBA through the viewing of their games.

It is Lebron, so yes I am going to hope he gets injured. I don't wish injury on anyone else other than him. Do you really think I am on my own boat here? I am sure plenty of people wish injury on him and they should.

They shouldn't do that he plays basketball. He's not out there killing ppl or starting wars. I didnt like the way he left CLE but at the same time it's not right to wish he gets injured.

It would probably be NFL-like. A week or two of flurries, and a mini camp with possibly no games. If they were to reach a deal by Monday, I would guess they start 1 month later.

just a guess obviously, but the NFL just went through it. So we have an example.

WHAT! No talks scheduled.... So what was the point of all those system issues that were almost resolved..

PlezPlayDKnicks
10-28-2011, 04:46 PM
Friday's CBA negotiations ended without an agreement on the most contentious issue, the split of Basketball-Related Income (BRI) -- the owners want an even 50% split, while the players want 52%.
The current CBA has the players at 57%, so they have already conceded a ton of cash over the life of the deal. Despite the BRI deadlock, there were more positive developments on Friday -- rough outlines have developed for the amnesty clause and luxury tax, and one "prominent agent" said that a deal could be struck as soon as Saturday. The players want as much money as possible. Its greed at its finest. Getting paid what you can earn through contracts is not enough for these players but on top of that they want a majority of all revenue attained in the league? Ridiculous. The owners will not budge because they are right in this issue. They pay the players a substantial amount through the contracts they provide in order to put a formidable team out there. There is no reason whatsoever why the owners should give up more than 50% of all basketball revenue to the players. If the players want to attain the majority of the profits from the league, they should shell out billions of their own dollars, and run a team. Otherwise, players need to get back to work because they are lucky to get any of the BRI. Players get what they are worth from their contracts. Anything beyond that is simply a bonus. NO CHANCE the players deserve a higher cut of the BRI than the owners.

Take it from an NBA economist; there's a reason rich, smart people buy NBA franchises. They're not victims and even if they're claims of "losing money" are true, it is easily made up for in the way an NBA franchise appreciates over time and the perks that come with owning an NBA franchise.

"Privatize your gains, socialize your losses." It's a saying that's been around for ages, but only smart, rich people know about it.

tell me, how much would you pay to see Dan gilbert one on one vs Jerry buss in the court?

Exactly.

Let me tell you something. How much would you pay to see Kobe and a bunch of scrubs go play a game against Lebron and a bunch of scrubs. Now, both Kobe and Lebron will sign a contract and will get paid a certain amount for the game. The promoter, who risks their own money to put this competition on will most definitely get a hefty sum of the revenue that this game will make. I guarantee you they will make more than 50% of the revenue this game will make.

You dont understand. Without the players there is no league, i understand. But without the owners, there also is no league. Without the owners you would watch semi-organized all-star games with minimum television coverage. You think the players alone make the league? You think Nike would sponsor players if there was no NBA or a serious multi billion dollar league like the NBA?

The bottom line is, the players get what they can earn through their contracts. Not to mention NBA contracts are the most player friendly contracts out of any major American sport. The players are more than fairly compensated. Now you want the owners to give up more than 50% of their profits to the players? Are you kidding me? How in the hell is that fair? Maybe you dont understand the concept of a business but thats not how a business works. The owner puts up billions of his own dollars to run a team and not only do you want him to pay his players a substantial amount to play a game, but you want him to give up the majority of his profits to that same player as well? LOL. Good luck if you think owners will give in and concede to anything that gives teh players a more than 50% share of the BRI. Its just silly in today's economy and will not happen.

exactly. cancelling these games really isnt that big of a deal because they would have had to be cancelled even if a deal was done today. probably just a tactic by stern to attempt to get the players to cave in. then they will just put the games back into the schedule.

my bet is deal gets done at the very last second it can for games to begin dec. 1. owners will play hardball, with in the back of their mind having an 82 game schedule ready. they wait as long as they can for the players to cave before moving up a little and agreeing on 51% if they dont cave.

College basketball is like the NBA in the sense that the NCAA promotes the game. Again, if the owners were not their, all we would watch is games like the Drue League and all the other all-star, "And-1" type games that went on this summer.

Furthermore, Cleavland was an NBA team and were the best team in the league for two seasons. Hardly scrubs. Again, the players get paid already. They shouldnt have to take a 50/50 split, why in the ****ing world should the players have to come down 7 percent because the owners spent like morons?

I hope the entire season is lost and the entire NBA is contracted, good riddance to a crooked league. I hope the players start a league where playoff series arent fixed and the commish isnt a tyrant.

52/48 is more than ****ing fair, the players have come down 5 percent at that point and it's still not enough? Are you kidding me?

This is all on the owners...

Privately, owners saying union left impression they would accept 50-50 if system issues were resolved, and that's why NBA returned to talks.

the last major system issue is good for parity, so i agree with the owners. luxury tax paying teams should not be able to use exceptions to sign players. if decent players worth the mid-level couldnt sign with the great teams that are tax paying, that would help parity.

Derek Fisher told me he's flying out to L.A. tonight. So weekend resumption of talks looks like no-go.

Oh well they just ****ed over the fans big time. Wake me up when a deal is done. and if they play less than 82 games then i wont be watching the tainted season. Would be a waste of time

Yes I will gladly pay $5 to go see for an And1 league in a HS gym, basketball park every year and my son will just think of "pro" basketball on the same level as field hockey, disc golf and racquetball!!!

They'll set up meetings I'm not worried at all, its all about greed but as soon as those checks stop rolling in they'll get it done.
The players want 52 and the owners want to give them 50 just take 51 and move on to the next subject that's stupid

Owners should put their money where their mouths are and accept 50-52.5%. If the NBA is truly struggling, they get the deal they want. If they're lying, players get their fair share.

Nba lockout just about over, according to low-level team employees with email access

agreed. This seems too sketchy to me. I won't believe until I see it, like the NFL lockout.

I feel like the owners are doing this at the last minute just to prove me wrong, and for no other reason.

Anyways, at what point does the Russian billionaire strongman owner of the New Jersey Nets start to put a little muscle on the low-level owners who aren't really in the game that much? I'm sure he, and others, are eager to get the money-train moving again, and don't have time for these shenanigans of bitter small market owners trying to add a list of "Lebron Rules" to the CBA, or quibbling about a few million in salary for each team each year.

Seriously, if you want to save $3M a year, then just cut/waive/trade/don't sign some player at the end of your bench. Ask the Clippers how they manage to come in $10M-$20M-$30M under the cap every year no problem.
