Lets say Boston beat Miami in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season and the Celtics and the Bulls met in the ECF, who would have won that series and advanced to the finals?

Derrick "MVP" Rose

Celtics would have won in 6. All they would have to do is slow down Rose or make him continue forcing bad shots while they beat them with experience

We would have seen a Mavs/Bulls matchup in the Finals which would have also been a fun series.

Bulls in 5 or more likely 6. They won the last 2 from the Celtics rather easily and the Celtics trading away Perkins only helped the Bulls case. Rose was just far too much for Rondo too handle since Rondo's "let him go by and try to steal it from behind D" is beginning to fail against a now clearly better player. The aging Celtics would put up a good fight, but the Bulls would have won that series.

regular season doesn't mean jack. Bulls swept the Heat in the season series and the Celtics beat the Heat 3-1 in the season series. Who won those series? The Heat did.

If they had played in the 2nd round ... I give it to the C's.

If they met in the 3rd round, all bets are off, the bulls young legs might have token them to the finals.

But the Heat games were close. The Bulls won by 11 and then 16 in the final 2 matchups with Boston (and they weren't those kind of games that were closer than the score would make you think). Since you quickly attacked the first poster to say the Bulls would win, what's your agenda with this thread? Might as well just put it out there...

Wouldn't of Rondo been playing with a broken arm? Bulls in 5.

Super.

Exactly. The argument of who won in the regular season was completely irrelevant this year

C's in 7 .. tooo much veteran playoff experience vs rarely any at all for the young Bulls .. I think they could contain rose fairly well

I said Celtics in 6. Playoffs are much more difficult matches to win. Don't judge them by regular season series. Miami was horrible both against Celtics and Bulls in regular season but beat them both 4-1 in the playoffs.

Same answer I gave in the Thunder thread. The ONLY reason the Heat beat the Bulls is because they're the #2 defense in the league and they have Lebron and Wade. No other team in the league has a defender as big, athletic, strong and skilled in defense as Lebron. No other team in the league would be able to shut down Rose like the Heat did.

^ who was the great defender on the Pacers? Cause he shot 37% against them

RZZZA

didn't they only win 1 game?

RZZZA

let's face it, the Celtics were falling apart in the playoffs. Taking a look at their sidelines in that series vs the Heat it was like some sort of injury clinic with all the old, broken Celtics players getting treatment from the trainers. I don't view the Celtics as a real obstacle in the East any more, they're on the decline.

harsh, but true.

^ Pacers suck and held Rose to 37 %. When Rose played that way against a good Miami team it didn't work

Pacers won 1 game, take a look at the final minutes of those Pacers games, Rose was pwning noobs like he always does to pull out the W's

Pacers could have won that first game they just blew it. Celtics would not allow that

I guess we'll never know.

Celtics got their ring, time for the lakers and celtics to move aside and make room for the younger teams.

c's in 7. Miami was a tougher opponent. There probably would have been a few OT games in that series, but c's baby.

The fact is just that the Celtics are tougher for the Heat to defend than the Bulls. The Heat very publicly admitted to using the "cut the head off the snake" method of defense on the Bulls. They built a wall around Rose to stop him from driving into the paint and put Lebron on him in late game situations. With Lebrons freakish size, speed, strength and athleticism, Rose could not get comfortable enough to get into a groove.

The Celtics are a completely different team, they have offensive weapons. If the Heat were to build a wall around Pierce, Allen would kill them. If the Heat were to focus on Allen, Garnett would get them.

the Bulls vs Heat series created a perfect storm that resulted in mass offensive malfunction for the Bulls.

Hey man, the Sixers lost in 5 to the Heat just like the Bulls and Celtics. And we arguably looked better against them too!

But seriously... Bulls in 7

Celts in 6. They would have had the help defense on Rose and the rest of the Bulls would have simply failed them when pushed into pressure shots.

kinda wonder really. Bulls are a better matchup for the Celtics than the Heat were.

SportsFanatic10

lots of variables but with a healthy rondo the celtics win in 6 or 7 in my opinion. too many offensive weapons and a solid defensive point guard to slow down rose along with a great defensive team in general.

I think it would have been a tight series, but I think boston's slowed down too much to compete. Plus the fact they traded down in their front line for reasons I still can't understand, and I think it tips the scale in favour of the Bulls.

Let me look into my crystal ball!

It says "I don't care". It could also say "if you say anything with complete certainty you're kidding yourselves".

It would have been a great series, that's for sure...Chicago definitely looks to be the safer choice..but again, you never know.

shutting down one man offenses is the celtics specialty.

I would have answered this at the end of the season as bulls in 5 or 6. But, after watching how the bulls struggled in the post season I'm sure this would have been a tough series. Bulls in 7 and a close final game.

As long as LeBron wasn't on the CEltics, then it doesn't matter.

No-one on Celtics can slow down rose, let alone stop him.

Also, another huge factor people ignore is that Rose and Noah simply want to beat KG and Rondo's Celtics team and they would be all over it.

Also, Miami's quickness, athleticism and suffocating defense is what won the series against Bulls. Celtics don't come close to that.

Rondo averaged a triple double on Rose last time they met in the playoffs, stop acring like he's Jesus

I say the Bulls because the Celtics couldn't even beat the Lakers last year in the Finals, plus they lost Perkins, they are in a away court disadvantage and Rondo was hurt. The last time we played the Celtics in the playoffs with their same big 3 was we pushed them to 7 games and in like 7 overtimes now they are older and more prone to injury up against a far much improved Bulls team with 8 brand new better players on the team, with a much far smarter and better head coach than Vinny Dumb Negro and the best PG in the entire NBA. I don't think the Celtics would be this kind of Bulls team and this isn't the same Bulls team 2 years ago.

I might have to go with the Bulls on this one. A large reason why I do believe the Bulls would have won is because they are the best rebounding team in the league while the Celtics are one of the worst.

Heat outrebounded the Celtics in the 2nd round. Who won? Heat right?
Heat matched the rebounds of the Bulls in the ECF and the Heat clearly had more offensive firepower on their team than the Bulls did.....and who won? Heat right?

Rebounding is probably the most underrated aspect of basketball. I am still not sure if I am going to go with the Bulls though, but as for now I am leaning towards them.

Celtics would have contained D-Rose without question. The Heat needed both Lebron and Wade to play like superstars in order to win that series, and they did.

That being said, some of the points that have been made in this thread have been SMH worthy.
