Just was thinking about this...tried finding info on it but no luck...anyone know if the NBA did cancel the upcoming season what would happen for the following years draft? How would the order be determined?

Lottery based on the previous season's records. Kinda like what the NHL did during their lockout.

I'm assuming 2 lotteries
1 for the non-playoff teams from last year
Another for the playoff teams last test

I say all contracts are scratched, and the NBA has a 2k style fantasy draft.

The Mavs get the first pick, Miami second, OKC and Chicago get third and fourth... And so forth. It's the only way.

Nobody knows, man, there's no existing rule. The owners and players would agree what to do and it would get written into the new CBA. They aren't even close to determining that sort of thing yet, so anyone who gives you a straight answer is speculating. Nobody knows.

Lottery based on the previous season's records. Kinda like what the NHL did during their lockout.

NHL negotiated prior 3 seasons, not just the singular previous season. NBA will have to negotiate their own system in case of a full season lockout.

Chad Ford from ESPN speculated in an article 3 different systems for determining order:

1) Duplicate of 2011 lottery records
2) NHL like system based on prior 5 seasons
3) True lottery

Nobody knows anything for sure other than it has to be negotiated.

I would guess that they'd do another lottery based on last year's records. They could never do this because teams already started marketing their picks, but I think it'd be cool if they put all of the 2011 draftees back in the pool and had one super draft.

IMO it's highly unlikely the draft is a repeat of last year as there are too many problems associated with that scenario.

What? Like the Cavs draft Andre Drummond and win a ring before Lebron in a couple years?

I think they'll do it like the NHL did after they lost the 2004-2005 season. They'll have a draft lottery and base it on the records of the previous 3 seasons. I.E. Give every team a chance to get the #1 pick but make it easier for the teams that had the most playoff absences.
