In this thread, you can discuss your selection and debate your votes for CY Young as it pertains to the sticky PSD thread votes.

Remember, votes have to be in by noon on October 4th to count, and you have to do the CY Young votes 1-3

Consider this an official CY Young thread now that the season is over.

Here are my votes right now, I'm not ready to officially submit them, since there are more things I would like to look at before officially deciding, but here is where I am right no

AL

Verlander
CC Sabathia
J. Weaver

NL

Every Triple Crown winner has won the CY and since this year we have two, nothing's going to change. Kershaw and Verlander will win CY.

Pretty evident it will be Verlander and Kershaw for their respective leagues.

American League

1) Justin Verlander (runaway winner and should be MVP as well!)
2) Jose Valverde (perfect 49 for 49 on saves)
3) Jered Weaver

National League

1) Clayton Kershaw (should benefit from Halladay and Lee splitting votes)
2) Roy Halladay
3) Cliff Lee

I can't see any justification for Valverde over Sabathia or Weaver. Care to explain you choice further than just his save statistics?

I think that Verlander and Kershaw will win. I'll be voting for Verlander followed by Sabathia/Weaver. I haven't looked at the NL #s closely yet, so I'm not sure who I'll be voting for b/w Kershaw and Halladay.

Halladay over Kershaw slightly. Kershaws is 9-1 with a ERA of 1.3 in the NL West and I think 2.9 outside of the NL West. He took advantage of big stadiums and that Quad A League. Ian Kennedy and Aaron Harang are studs in the NL West. Halladay has slightly worse numbers than Kershaw but the fact that Halladay has a 2.4 ERA at home and on the road just shows he is more consistent against better teams also. Someone also told me that Halladay actually had less run support than Kershaw also.

People say that Colorada and Arizona are better hitting teams than most in the NL,

Kershaw has to face the #3 and #4 offense in baseball in Colorado and Arizona... yes, you offset that with the Padres/Giants, but Atlanta/Florida/and Washington were numbers 10, 11, and 12 in offense in the NL so its not like Halladay is facing amazing offenses either

I'm not saying Kershaws is tougher, but its pretty equal in terms of competition

There is zero evidence of pitchers splitting votes for for the Cy Young, several times, first and second place have been from the same rotation, they won't 'split' votes, because it doesn't exist.

That said, you should remember that this is your vote for who you think SHOULD win, not who WILL win.

And personally, I have a serious issue with Valverde being up there, he has zero business in the cy young, he has been awful in non-save situations, and hasn't pitched nearly enough innings to be considered more quality over guys like Sabathia and Weaver.

If Verlander doesn't win the CY this year, I'm boycotting baseball for life.
