View Full Version : A flaw that could hurt Kemp's chances of the Triple Crown

As you all know Matt Kemp is a prime MVP candidate who leads the NL in RBI's and HR's. He is third in BA but there could be something that could hurt his chances. If you look at the number of games played by the Dodgers they would finish the season by playing in 161 games which is one less of the 162 game season, so what that said, do you think the league should change rules to make sure every team plays all 162 games? because look at this situation with Kemp, lets say he needs one more game to hit HR number 40 to make him a 40/40 player or another game would help him in his BA. So in some sense this should be changed somehow in the future.

Braun is going to hurt Kemp's Triple Crown chances.

I don't see why it would matter missing .006% of a seasons games.

If Kemp can get close enough by the season end then yes that .006% of the season does matter

You don't continue the season for individual statistics

It's definitely a shame that he could end the season with 39 homers and 161 games, but it's not worth flying the whole team across the country to see if Kemp can homer.

Hard to make this argument when the one triple crown category he's trailing in is the one that isn't a counting stat.

it sucks, but he's not winning the triple crown anyways

40/40 is where it hurts

he's the MVP. the team was something like 15 games under .500 a while back now they are guaranteed to finish atleast 1 game over. and unlike Braun who is doing it with Weeks, Fielder and McGhee, Kemp is doing it with nothing around him.

Why did they only play 161?

umm.... no

the league will not and should not change this for the sake of STATS. if that missed game does not matter in the standings, it should not be made up just to see if a single player can hit his 40th HR. thats just dumb.

Why did they only play 161?

Game in Washington got rained out

Exactly. I was hoping he would win the triple crown, but at this point it's practically impossible. He's 10 points behind not one, but two other players. I haven't done the math today, but I did do it yesterday. It's within reach, but he'd need an extra inning game where he just keeps racking up the hits. Plus he needs both Reyes and Braun to go hitless.

I do hope he gets the 40/40.

He deserves the MVP for sure.

so now does that .006% of the season mean anything??? Kemp finishes with 39 HR's and the Dodgers only played 161 games!

They should make up that game. Its the right thing to do. But when has MLB ever done anything that was right??

They made the game up in Pittsburgh. Flew all the way there for 1 game. Then went down to Atlanta I think.

And this is nothing new. I think there have been many times where a team only plays 161 games. I love the Dodgers and would love to see the record but it's not reasonable to fly a team out anywhere for 1 game.
