For 12 million.

A good pick-up, even if he only produces half as much in 12 as he did in 11.

The 2012 for Berkman and Carpenter will be the same (about 23 million) as it was in 2011.

You'd take a .200 wOBA? I kid. I kid.

Really wish he went to free agency. He would have fit quite nicely at first base for the Brewers.

Would you give up your first round draft pick to have him?

I nice insurance plan at 1b if Pujols does the unimaginable. How much money that leaves to re-sign Pujols is the key.

He'll prob breakdown next season.... but worth the risk cause he produced like Pujols this year

I don't see why he would break down next season, but either way, he is an obvious fit.

If we can't re-sign Pujols, Berkman will play first, and Craig will play right.

If we do re-sign Pujols, Berkman plays right, Craig plays frequently spelling plenty of off days, and is there for injury reserve.

Berkman had a rough 2010, but that has been it. His body doesn't look like it will continue to be healthy, but he certainly was solid this season, and there isn't any reason or anything in his track record that says he can't get another 500-550 plate appearances.

Love it, because it sets a solid market price Beltran. Hoping we can ink him for around the same type of money

Would you give up your first round draft pick to have him?

Yes for several reasons.
1.) This upcoming draft is supposedly weak.
2.) They'll receive 2 picks for Fielder so that's basically a wash. (An out side chance they offer Krod arbitration as well)
3.) Assuming they don't blow this team up in the off season, they still have the majority of this team in tact and Berkman (while not likely to repeat his 2011 performance) will probably be about as valuable as Fielder has been. That gives them one more shot with this current team.

He might not.... but sooner rather than later he will breakdown. Last year was a scary site, he showed he was mortal and even his demeanor was scary, looked almost uninterested. Coming to the Cardinals was a like a second start and he was excited and energized. But he reminds me of Abreu when he went to the Angels... at first it was a bargain, but slowly he will breakdown and become mediocre.

Maybe not next year, but i personally think you take your bargains and quit while you are ahead.

Just noticed that Berkman is almost a career .300 hitter with a career .409 OBP.

Along with his career stats, Berkman is known for being a clubhouse favorite despite his location. That's impressive given the list of teams he's been on and the payrolls on those teams. For a guy to be so consistent at his job, so upright in his character, and to be admired by his peers speaks volumes of Lance Berkman.
