I think we can all agree that regardless of how well all the other players turned out, James would still be the consensus pick for first over all, but I'm curious as to how other fans in general would have pick from 1st to 10th in one of the deepest drafts since the 84 draft.

Thoughts?

These are some of the players who were up to be drafted that year:

James
Wade
Bosh
Carmelo
Kaman
David West
Udonis Haslem
Kendric Perkins
Diaw
Barbosa
Krover
Kapono
Josh Howard
Pachulia
Darko
Rindour
TJ Ford
Nick Collison
Hinrich

the picks went as follow:
1. James
2. Darko
3. Carmelo
4. Bosh
5. Wade
6. Kaman
7. Kirk Hinrich
8. T J Ford
9. Mike Sweeny
10. Jarvis Hayes

9 & 10: A toss up with Diaw, Barbosa, Krover, Kapono, Josh Howard, Pachulia, Darko and Rindour.

Nick Collison, Kirk Hinrich, and Mo Williams were part of that draft as well. Not a bad list to try and make a top 10.

That's pretty much how I'd pick except switch Mo Williams and Hinrich.

Howard is clearly the more talented player, but Kaman is a center, and center is the hardest position to fill in the NBA. Howard's numbers have dipped a bit at a time in his career when you would expect them to go up, and though Kaman's numbers have dipped a bit from his all-star season, part of that is due to the fact that he has been battling injuries. His per-36 minute numbers have him boarding 10+ on his career, and he is a capable low post scorer.

Its mostly about the C position being so hard to fill, which is why I would draft Perkins higher than Howard as well.

You are crazy if you put Bosh ahead of Melo. Melo at least has taken his team to the playoffs on a consistent basis including a deep run.

09-18-2011, 09:26 PM
2. Pistons - Carmelo (needed SF, not SG, had Hamilton)
3. Nuggets - Wade (trade Vashon Leonard for a SF)
4. Raptors - Bosh
5. Heat - Kaman (Riley liked him during tha draft + Heat needed Center)
6. Clippers - Hinrich (would have fit well with Brand, Maggette, and Q-Rich)
7. Bulls - Josh Howard - (before they had Deng)
8. Bucks - TJ Ford
9. Knicks - David West - (Tim Thomas @ SF, still trade Spree for other needs)
10. Wizards - Darko (Just because Kwame + Darko = fun times :D)

Wade has accomplished more yet James still gets the nod as #1? Don't get me wrong, James is a freakish athlete but I'm more impressed by Wade's game.

Sorry buck-o...

When Pat Riley clears cap space, he gets Wade, LeBron, and Bosh.
When Dan Gilbert clears cap space, he gets Alonzo Gee, Joey Graham, and Ryan Hollins.

You mean accomplished more in the sense that Steve Javie and Bennett Salvatore gave him a ring in 06?

Dallas lost that series, too. It wasn't all the refs. Wade played out of his mind. How about LeBron's disappearing act in the finals?

I'm more impressed by Wade's game. What's wrong with that?

I have nothing wrong with you being more impressed by Wade, but how is he more accomplished?

Everyone bagging on Lebron in the Finals have the right to do so, but what about Wade dissapearing in the Chicago series when Rose destroyed him? Oh yeah, Lebron shut Rose down and pretty much single handedly won that series. I don't even like Lebron, but my god, people are delusional regarding how bad he is after the Finals. Wade only happened to eat Dallas up because they had no good SG to defend him.

Rose destroyed Wade in game one when he couldn't stay in front of him and Chicago killed Miami. Then they switched Lebron onto Rose cause they needed his height and speed and the series completely got flipped in terms of momentum. That's how it works.

You might want to go back and re-watch that game.

Wade spent maybe a handful of possessions defending Rose. I'd bet you could count them on 1 hand.

I would agree that Melo has more skills, and that Melo, considering his position, is a better rebounder (he ranks higher among SF than Bosh does among PF for rebounding), but I like Bosh's post game and would rather build aorund a 20/10 PF than a 25/7 SF. Neither player has illustrated an ability to lead a team to victory on their own, but Bosh has the rebounding edge and as Pat Riley always says, rebounds = championships.

Without any research, and based solely off memory, my list would be...

1. James
2. Wade
3. Melo
4. Bosh
5. West
6. Kaman
7. Perkins
8. Hinrich
9. Mo Williams
10. Barbosa

Haslem would be hard to leave out of that list, but Barbosa had an important role on those successful Suns teams and has been one of the elite 6th man guys for years. Some would argue that Hinrich doesn't belong in the top 10, but I think he's one of the best, most versatile perimeter defenders in the NBA and one of the two or thee best guys on those mid-2000s Bulls teams.

10 - Leandro Barbosa or Udonis Haslem

I never realized that after the top 4 picks in this draft there is really no other super stars. Kaman is very good, so are Perkins, West, and Williams. And then Hinrich and Haslem are solid. But after that it is a pretty big drop off

3. Carmelo
4. Bosh
5. West
6. Josh Howard
7. Kaman
8. Perkins
9. Kirk Hinrich
10. Haslem/Diaw/Mo Will

I know people have kind of forgot about Josh Howard and as a Mavs fan he really pissed me off with his shot selection some nights; but he looked legit before the injuries. He could play both ends and was a talented scorer.
