Vs

Boston Red Sox

http://product.images.fansedge.com/32-03/32-03145-F.jpg

Tuesday September 9, 7:10, SNET

Brandon Morrow (9-10, 5.12 ERA) (http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=453344) Vs Tim Wakefield (6-6, 5.03 ERA) (http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=123801)

Scouting report:

Blue Jays: Morrow allowed eight runs in 4 1/3 innings during his last start against Boston. He has surrendered 22 earned runs in his past 20 1/3 innings and hasn't won since Aug. 17 at Seattle. Most of the problems are related to poor command of the fastball.

Red Sox: The veteran knuckleballer will take his eighth stab at win No. 200 when he opens a 10-game homestand. Wakefield allowed five runs in five innings in his last start, but still left with an 8-5 lead that the bullpen squandered.

Wednesday September 14, 1:35, SNET

Ricky Romero (14-10, 3.01 ERA) (http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=460069)vs John Lackey (12-12, 6.30 ERA) (http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=407793)

Scouting report:

Blue Jays: Romero allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven in his last start against Boston. It was the lefty's first victory against his division rivals this season, and the third of his career. He is 7-1 with a 2.71 ERA in his past 10 games.

Red Sox: Lackey is confident he will be able to make his next start after suffering a contusion of his left calf on a comebacker in his last outing. Over his last two starts, Lackey has given up 13 hits over eight innings, going 0-2 with a 12.38 ERA.

Morrow sucks because Cooper botches a play. Farrell sucks because half his roster is hurt. Got it.

No, morrow just sucks when he doesn't have his good stuff (i.e a 97-98mph fastball, coupled with a 90mph slider). When he is only throwing in the low 90's, he normally gets rocked. I don't know what the difference is with him on his good and bad days, but the difference in velocity is alarming. When most pitchers are having "off days" they simply can't spot the fastball, or they can't get the breaking ball over...when he has an off day, he loses like 7 mph on his fastball, and throws everything at the same speed (~90mph) and hitters time him very well.

2009mvp
09-13-2011, 07:47 PM
Yeah no, he never sits in the upper 90's consistently. He's 92-93ish, ramping up to 96 at times. And shockingly enough, that's exactly what he's been doing so far tonight.

Twitchy
09-13-2011, 07:47 PM
Morrow's FB sits at 93-94 MPH. Yes, he can dial it up from 95-97 when he needs to, but he's not going to be slinging it in there at 95-96 all the time. His average FB is 93.8 MPH this year. Which, as MVP said, is what he's doing tonight.

We should just shut morrow down now. We aren't competing for anything at this point and we have plenty of young starters in the pen right now.

If we are working towards next season which we should be i dont see the harm in giving a few guys a start in place of Morrow who has been bad for his last 8 or so starts minus one or two.

i understand the concept of extending him. but i need the training staff to be sure he isn't injured.

u can't have a pitcher be effective only 4-5 months of the season. especially for a young team vying for the playoffs.

if the playoffs were going down tomorrow and the jays were in i would go with romero, alvarez and cecil. And i f'n hate cecil and his 87mph fastball

I wonder what the time frame is for nestor molina, ands drew hutchinson? I wonder if they can crack the rotation next year like alvarez this year.

Good job Frankie, sounded like he was lighting it up with the fastball.

Good tough win for Romero, but game sounded pretty ugly.

But good comeback nevertheless! And lets get a big left handed bat for #4.

So how did the season series go with the Red Sox? 8 Wins, 10 Losses? I don't mind that at all. You win 8/18 against the best offensive club in the majors, you're not gonna do bad for too long.

man ff has been a beast lately.. I wish he had pitched like this all year.. I think the injury really hurt him in spring training because this was the closer that AA traded 4.

So happy to hear those Boos coming from Fenway today... music to my ears.

Also so much for preventing Wakefield and his 200th lol. The score last night was embarrassing.

Bob McCowan is a dumbass. He's arguing with Zaun about the Lawrie and Varitek play from today's game, saying that Lawrie should be fined or suspended.

More importantly, they've won the last 4 of 6.

Not to be the downer, but:

The Red Sox outscored the Jays 137-77 in their 18 games, and only won 10 of them. The Jays won 5 one-run games.

Yikes.

i win is a win whether u win by 1 or 2 or 10 runs at the end all that matters is what ends up in the win or lost column

Not the point. Obviously we didn't put enough games in the win column this season and that probably has a lot to do with the fact that we are relying on winning by one run a lot of the time.

The point is the Red sox clearly showed a better offensive team than we have this season and thats with a totally depleted rotation which is no ones fault but their own.

If we expect to make the playoffs we need to blow teams out now and then because solid pitching is never for sure, especially for us this season.

Nonetheless 8/10 is a good season just looking at the numbers. Still we shouldn't be satisfied with that or even if we had won two more than them.

None of that phases me at all. I know of the run differential, the commentators and announcers talk about it all the time. The point is, we almost went .500 on one of the top 3 teams in the major league in 18 games, in a year we are not even trying to compete. I don't care about the runs, Boston is supposed to score that many runs, that's what happens when you put together an offense that gives you 3 MVP candidates in the first inning.

I'll gladly take a 14-0 loss any day of the week if it means that we're gonna win the other 3 games in the 4 game series.

They scored 3.33 runs/game more than the Jays. 3.33! Take what you will from that vs the actual record (and it is still a small sample size), but to me that says the Jays were lucky to grab even 5 games from the Sox this year and are still a ways away from competing with the big boys (mostly on the run prevention side, obviously).
