Those picking Shaq over Olajuwon should note that the Dream dominated against Shaq and every other dominant big he played against. While it is close the FT difference should swing the vote to Hakeem.

What do you mean by that?

In Shaqs first 3 years going up against Peak/Prime Hakeem he won more games in their H2H matchups and outproduced/outplayed Hakeem.

Even in the Finals it was basically a wash between the two Centers, the difference in the series came down to the play of the supporting cast and roleplayers.

And again you have to consider this is Rookie-3rd year Shaq going against Hakeem at his absolute best.
Hakeem never dominated Shaq and rarely outplayed him.

I also think the Hakeem and Shaq is interesting and probably would go with Hakeem since he did bring the organization that drafted him a title eventually even though Shaq was more dominant. I think if you want to take a franchise player you want a guy who can lead a team to a title but also a guy who is more likely to stick around for your team.

1 -- Kobe Bryant or Tim Duncan (sells more jerseys though I'd rather build around Timmy D. Similar impact to team though)

2 -- Hakeem Olajuwon or Shaquille O'neal (both are beasts, I'll take the one who effects both sides and constantly improved over the one that has been stable ever since he emerged in the league)

3 -- Lebron James or Moses Malone (I'll take one of the most talented and dominant centers of all time over most players)

4 -- Dwight Howard or Dirk Nowitzki (50-50 here, depends on what kind of team you wanna have, Dirk to attract more fans internationally)

5 -- Chris Paul or Dwyane Wade (CP3 is good and all, but Wade is amazing)

6 -- Gary Payton or Clyde Drexler (Personally feel Drexler had more impact than Payton did. 50-50 as well, different positions so can't really argue about it, depends on team direction)

7 -- Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain (defense > offense)

8 -- Kevin Durant or Rick Barry (Rick Barry easily. Ask me in 15 years time and I might change my mind)

9 -- Dominique Wilkins or Paul Pierce (just how it is)

10 -- Tracy Mcgrady or Derrick Rose (premature to answer honestly, in 12-15 years we'll know for sure. T-Mac without injuries was at least top 30 of all time calibre)

11 -- Grant Hill or Steve Nash (obviously Hill)

12 -- Jason Kidd or Allen Iverson (both are two of my favorite players of this generation, personal preference is Jason Kidd who imo should rank high in everyone's book in all time lists)

13 -- Charles Barkley or Karl Malone (love Barkley, not really high on Malone, but it is what it is)

14 -- Kevin Garnett or Oscar Robertson (Imo Oscar is top 10 of all time, Garnett is effective but not really close)

15 -- Julius Erving or David Robinson (I love Dr J, love D Rob too. You never pass out the chance for a dominant center, one that even had quadruple doubles some time in his career)

Great topic....and I'm assuming young and healthy when selecting a player

1 -- Kobe Bryant or Tim Duncan - I'd take him because I feel that overall he was a better player, the difference is he didn't bring attention to himself, is a great and humble team guy as well. Players play better around Duncan and may play better, worse, or the same with Kobe.

2 -- Hakeem Olajuwon or Shaquille O'neal - I really want to take Hakeem because he did it more with skill, athleticism, and defense but Shaq's size (not discounting the things I mentioned for Hakeem he did have those) and sheer force may make him more of a threat but I think its real close.

3 -- Lebron James or Moses Malone - I think Lebron gets a bad rap but the public. He works hard and is one of the most naturally skilled players of all time. I believe if Lebron matures a bit he will become a top 5 maybe top 3 player all time if not he'll still be top 10.

4 -- Dwight Howard or Dirk Nowitzki - To be honest Dirk might be a better option here but Dwight in the right situation may transform into one of the great centers of all time and Dirk is a great player but not a top 10 - 15 player which I think Dwight could end up.

5 -- Chris Paul or Dwyane Wade - Injuries, CP3 I don't trust to stay healthy but if that wasn't the case I'm not sure who I'd take.

6 -- Gary Payton or Clyde Drexler - I like Clyde all around better then Payton, if I needed someone to steal the inbound then I would talk Payton but I'd take Clyde for everything else.

7 -- Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain - More or less a toss up to me so I went with the stats guy which I typically hate doing.

8 -- Kevin Durant or Rick Barry - I think when its all said and done Durant will be the better player and I think Durant is a humble team guy as well.

9 -- Dominique Wilkins or Paul Pierce - I think Dominique is a bigger name and a flasher player but I think it might be Pierce in a close race to me.

10 -- Tracy Mcgrady or Derrick Rose - Until Rose does it longer I will stand by my belief he is the most overrated and over hyped played in the league, he is really really good but he's not legendary or HOF good and a healthy young McGrady who knows what his ceiling was.

11 -- Grant Hill or Steve Nash - Without injuries we might be talking about a top 10 all time guy in Hill instead of anywhere from the 2 - 5 best point guard.

12 -- Jason Kidd or Allen Iverson - Debateibly the greatest pound for pound player in NBA history, certainly the number 1 or 2 little man of all time.

13 -- Charles Barkley or Karl Malone - I like Barkley's presence, defense, and rebounding more than Malone's scoring and Barkley could score a bit. I do wonder what Malone would have done without Stockton.

14 -- Kevin Garnett or Oscar Robertson - I really really want to take Oscar but I just can't.

15 -- Julius Erving or David Robinson - As a Sixers fan (that is a hare to young to remember him in his prime) I have to go with him. This is probably a homer pick and Robinson might be the better selection.

1 -- Kobe Bryant or Tim Duncan

lol Duncan is the most dominant PF ever to play professionally. This is a no brainer since Kobe's not top 3 at his position and having Duncan in his prime almost guarantees championships.

2 -- Hakeem Olajuwon or Shaquille O'neal
Though Hakeem is awesome, I got to go with Shaq on this one fellas. He's just too dominant.

3 -- Lebron James or Moses Malone
I don't know enough about Big Moses to have an accurate opinion. Still though, I think James is a bit more valuable.

4 -- Dwight Howard or Dirk Nowitzki
Dirk. I just value expert offense over expert defense when it comes to winning over a course of 82 games. And since Drik is in his prime right now, he proved this year that he's no slack on the defensive end.

5 -- Chris Paul or Dwyane Wade
Wade is a better competitor and can play multiple positions.

6 -- Gary Payton or Clyde Drexler

Haha is this a joke? GP is one of the best PG ever on both ends..

7 -- Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain
Though I value high level offensive players over defensive ones, Russel was just too good to pass up on. A championship coach, player and and all around leader in every facet of professional sports. The guy is a class act compared to MR. 20,000

8 -- Kevin Durant or Rick Barry
Durant hasn't played enough games to be considered in the same conversation as Rick Barry. Sorry.

9 -- Dominique Wilkins or Paul Pierce

Pierce has a championship and is a super player despite his athletic limitations.

10. Tracy Mcgrady or Derrick Rose

I got D. Rose. He's a better player than T Mac in his prime. Mcgrady could score but that pretty much sums up his career.

11 -- Grant Hill or Steve Nash

Grant Hill in his prime was a superb athlete. He could have been one of the best ever.

12 -- Jason Kidd or Allen Iverson
Jason's a hometown guy for me. But besides that. Allen was my favorite player growing up so this pick is solely based on need. Kidd is a Top 3 PG imo, you cannot pass up on that kind of dominance for AI, no matter how good that guy was/is.

13 -- Charles Barkley or Karl Malone

This is the most difficult decision. Malone has better numbers overall and even Barkley considers him better than himself. I got to go with Malone.

14 -- Kevin Garnett or Oscar Robertson

HAHA I love KG, but this choice is not worth discussing. The Big O is a top player in NBA history, Kevin's not. Sorry.

15 -- Julius Erving or David Robinson

I don't know enough about Dr. J to make an accurate assessment. So for that reason Im going with Robinson since he's a classact and was a dominant center at one point.

kobe over duncan becuase everybody knew he was going to be something special when the lakers traded their starting center for him in 1996 and around two years later traded eddie jones and nick van axell to provide bryant with playing time. he also turned out to be player of the decade from 2000 to 2009 and the second best shooting gaurd in the nba, plus big men tend to get hurt more often than guards

How did they know he was going to be special when he was the 13th pick while Duncan was 1st?
