View Full Version : Was the 2011 NBA Draft weak?

I wanted to make a different thread than the usual (take player X and put him on team Y) lol. Does anyone else besides me not buying what the media is selling. They think the 2011 draft class was weak, I don't think it was at all. In my opinion there's plenty of talent in this class. Now there probably won't be many great players from this draft but I think Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter (possibly), and some other will be good NBA players. There was alot of solid players getting drafted in the 2nd round too, like Jon Leuer and Chandler Parsons. Some of y'all might think I'm overrating the draft class, but I don't think it's weak like some of those analysts claim.

People can clearly can tell you if the draft was weak or not, basing their answer on the ZERO games played.

The real question is: Was the 2010 draft weak?
I didn't see many rookies make even the slightest diference. Blake Griffin is 2009 class, Fields was a 2nd round steal that no one expected to be good and John Wall was the consensus #1. Who else was worth it based on last season?

You wont know for a while, but it depends on what you mean by weak? Stud potential? Yeah, there was only a few players with Star potential. But there was alot of solid players that can help teams imo.

I'd say Greg Monroe had a pretty good season.

It was a weak, weak draft class. It's possible that nobody outside of Wall sees an All-Star game. In which case: Worse of all time. And although I agree with 'Crooners 6-7 years sentiment on making judgements on the class - you can just flat out tell that none of these guys will be #1's outside of John.

lulz, are we seriously labeling the 2010 draft class a bust after one year? And I guarentee there will be more than 1 all star

John Wall will not be the only All Star player from the 2010 Draft. I can see Demarcus Cousins, Evan Turner, Landry Fields, Greg Monroe, and Jordan Crawford as future All Stars as well.

Lots of potential filled players, way too early to tell. Derrick Favors?

There were some high potential players taken in that draft. The first two that come to mind are Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins. If get near their ceilings, both will be very very good.

lol...everybody thinks they got a steal in this draft. Bulls fans think Jimmy Butler and especially Nikola Mirotic are gonna be great players.

Knicks fans are making Iman Shumpert sigs, which I find just hilarious. I don't know if they're doing it ironically or not but I think it's funny.

Yet again Mr. Gators impresses. I agree Monroe had a solid season, especially during the last stretch of the season. Hopefully he continues to get better and continue to gain momentum for us.

When the analysts talked about it being a weak class they meant at the top. There wasn't a clear elite number 1 pick like there is moat years (I.e. derrick rose, blake griffin, John wall)

can ed davis get some love?..guy was a top 5 pick going into the season..fell to the 13th pick draft day and had a pretty good season for the raptors even though he missed the beginning of the season.

This last draft, I'd have a hard time naming you picks below 4 or 5. It doesn't look super great, but we'll see. I think 2010 had some legit potential guys who we knew would take a couple or so years to pan out like Favors or who showed that they need to make NBA adjustments like Turner and Johnson. Aminu and George definitely are guys in the mix before the talent trails off.

Oh, and Ed Davis is a pretty solid building block and Monroe was perhaps overlooked.

He reminds me of Jimmy Butler, Bulls fans hope Butler will be good too but you don't see any Jimmy Butler sigs around do you?

I just find it weird that Knicks fans have Iman Shumpert sigs, very weird. At first I thought it was a joke but now I'm starting to get that it isn't.

There's a good chance that both of these guys will be busts

Just shows that we are supporting the young blood. What you though i should rep the melo Sig like how most bulls fans rep the rose sig ? how boring would that be

THat might be true but if he can turn into a Battier type player that wouldn't be to bad either

I think draft classes are held to an unfair standard every since the '03 NBA Draft occurred..every class since has basically been labeled "weak". The past 3 drafts(09-11) will be viewed as good to solid in the next 3yrs

Apparently the 2012 NBA Draft is suppose to be the greatest since 2003, for good reason in my opinion

I cant wait to see our two rookies dueling once the Nets finally move to Brooklyn next year. A defensive force vs an offensive force.. Iman is like the Anti MarShon :D Its gonna be so much fun to watch

I think he will. I watch just about every UK game last year and I was impressed with what I saw w/Knight. He's not a great athlete but he's a damn good shooter. I think he'll be a Chauncey Billups like player in the NBA.

I think a few years down the road the 2011 class will be greatly overshadowed by the upcoming 2012 class. Scary how good that crop looks.

I agree completely man. I think that Irving, Dwill7, Valunciunas (i think i spelled that right) have star potential. But i see alot of players that i think will be pretty good/solid.
