View Full Version : Can you have a 2nd favorite team?

My friends and I are debating this.

Is it possible to have a second favorite team or do you just have a favorite and other teams that you like?

I think so.

I tend to root for teams more than most every other team besides my favorite team. It used to be Cleveland. Last year it was Denver and Philly. I think we're all naturally inclined to root for some teams over others...and sometimes some team over every other team (besides your #1).

It's never come close to interfering with my love for the Magic...so I don't see why that's a problem.

After the Heat, it's been Denver and Indiana for me.

I agree with the other guys that have posted so far; I root for other teams, just not nearly as much as I do for my favorite

My second favorite team is whoever is playing the Knicks.

It's hard for me to have a 2nd favorite team and remain them being my favorite. The Thunder for example, they were my 2nd favorite a couple seasons ago, but now that they're at the top battling with the Lakers, they're not my favorite anymore. :p

For some reason I've always liked the Bulls no matter what.. So I guess they're my 2nd favorite.

I always thought it was gay to hear someone say "my second favorite team is"

But im a Lakers fan, but i like to cheer for the Knicks and go to a bunch of knick games every year and watch every knick game i can

But im not a knicks fan really, when they lose i dont feel any type of way

Yes, apparently you can, but I will never understand that concept. How can you root for two teams?? Me personally, I like one team in every sport and all the other teams I couldn't care less about.

Denver became a lot of peoples second favorite team last season, its just a fun team to watch. It's not exactly that I root for a second team to win, I just like watching them.

I think it's bad to have a second favorite team, it's okay to have other teams that you really like, but having two favorite teams is like a scapegoat if team #1 sucks. From my experience most "true" fans are one teamers, but there's always gonna be exceptions.

you can like another team but you cant have two favorites..
you can have a sidechick but you cant date two girls at the same time..

Toronto Raptors are my favorite and once the Raptors are eliminated I will cheer for the younger teams that make the playoffs. Like OKC

When the Celtics were bad in the middle of the last decade, I really like the Spurs. Timmy was one of my first favorite players. But I would say yes, but only once your first team's season is done.

Of course you can date two girls at the same time.

It's easier if one of them knows about the other, but not absolutely necessary.

At least that was the case in the 70's and 80's

As long as they are in a different division and you only watch their nationally televised games. Thats the way i look at it.

Only sport i kind of have two teams is baseball. Tigers are my team but I have a soft spot for the Cubs (grew up watching them on WGN when the tigers weren't playing). Ryne Sandberg and Mark Grace were two of my all-time favorite players also.

I secretly root for the raps and suns after my Mavs.

Raps because I'm Canadian and Suns because of Nash. I also tend to route for teams with players I like watching so I pulled for the Heat over Chicago etc . . . Because LeBron and Wade are both more exciting to watch than Rose.

You still like them even after super bowl 35? ugh, I can never root for the ravens. On the other hand I like to root for the raiders. Sucks they stole boss though.

I really only have one favorite team, A couple other teams that I like to see win (Raiders, Rays). And then when playoffs come around and my team isn't in it, I always pick a team to root for to keep the viewing interesting. Lately that is whatever team is playing Philly though.

Dade County

its definitely true for people who's sports teams suck. I live in toronto and love the raptors but they haven't won anything ever. So my next favourite team is the Lakers of Los Angeles.

Depends on where you are coming from. Are you a bigger fan of The _____ from _____, or are you a bigger fan on the NBA and basketball in general?

For me the answer is yes. Basketball fan first, Laker fan second. Which is why I don't feel strange rooting for the Thunder, who I like a lot. I also like the Knicks and the Warriors (use to live in SF). I'd say the Thunder are my 2nd favorite, but they're still way behind LA for me as a fan. If Thunder and LA matches up there's no question who I'd be rooting for.

To say "no" for baseball, I don't get that. I think for any sport that's OK.

Liking an AL team and an NL team should be more "OK" especially since they'll play each other maybe once every few years...

Man Law Spmam Law. Who cares? You're not more of a man for liking one team only and never having a rooting interest in other games (I'm sure you do).

Most of the reasons I start rooting for other teams is because of players...and no league is more player-driven than the NBA. I've loved guys like Pierce (Boston), LeBron (Cleveland), the guys Denver had last year and Iggy (Philly). Since the league is so player driven, you like a player and you thus like their team.

One team from the East, one team from the West. Just as long as it's the other confrence, I would be ok with it for any sport. I have 2 teams in ever sport.

I don't have two teams I root for, I think it's stupid. It defeats the whole purpose of the term "nationalism" or "team pride".

You can do it though, who's to tell you, you can't? I just don't do it.

I think so... I mean, like everyone here is saying though... won't compare to the passion to the favourite team though...

I root for the Raptors, but I also root a little bit for Orlando and Indiana... Recently this year, I've also wanted to see the Knicks win a bit (Their fans had to endure such crap over the past decade, they deserved some hope lol). Luckily Amar'e brought them that.

i think so. im from pennsylvania but i just moved to minnesota in december. And i plan on going to a few games this year. So its always gonna be eagles/phillies/sixers first. But i will support vikings/twins/wolves second. New area, New home team. Plus im spending my hard earned money on these games.
