something like this.

Conley +Joe Johnson+Odom+Pau+Bynum

or Chalmers + Kobe+Barnes+birdman andersen+Dwight

I'll take Kobe and Dwight all day. Whoever disagrees is delusional.

Superstars win in this league. This isn't baseball or football where everything has to click to win it all. Why do you think the World Series and Superbowl is such a crap shoot every year. Usually the hottest team wins, but in basketball, the teams that are top heavy in talent usually wins. Unless you're the Heat of course.

give me kobe and dwight all day.. imagine how lucky the heat are. they get 2 superstars and a perennial all star AND good role players mixed with vet leadership.. yet they still cant do **** hahahaha

heat formula is like this

chalmers (chalmers)/ fisher (bibby)
kobe (lebron)
battier (haslem)/ miller
bosh (bosh)/
dwight (wade)/ big z

=

so unfair.. (this lineup would have won for sure)

Westbrook (2nd)-Allen (3rd)-Iggy (3rd)-Love
(2nd)-Bogut (3rd)

Domination.......

Well it's obvious I chose the 2 superstars with 3 role players. Unless you couldn't read between the lines. So how did I miss the point of the thread?

its a valid example of what im saying yep ( but its 2 seconds and 2 thirds the last starter has to be a role player , but of better quality than the role players of the stars).

So what do you take the stars+crap or the TEAM?

I'm a team over stars kind of guy, but you need at least one star to win in today's NBA. The Mavs formula is totally replicable, the '04 Pistons formula isn't.

well heres a good second option/3rd option squad

basically give me bostons 3rd and fourth option
pierce is def option 1
rondo is prob option 2

that leaves kg and ray

jason kidd 3rd option
ray allen
johnson 2nd option
kevin garnett 3rd option
pau gasol 2nd option

thats really good defense
GREAT 3 point shooting
GREAT post presence
Very good interior D
GREAT passing ALL around.
GREAT Leadership.
they would win it all.

Wade (1), Dwight (1), Odom (R.P.), Jason Kidd (R.P.), Korver (R.P.) <---- probably a better option at the three spot

Pretty nice team.

Now I'm confused. He said 2 superstars + 3 role players. How are you suppose to leave out Kobe, Dwight, Lebron, etc.

While its rare, this is just an exercise to pass time. And honestly, if you were to take a couple of #2 and #3 options, do you truly believe one of them wouldn't emerge and fit the "superstar" category?

Hellcrooner
07-25-2011, 11:44 PM
ok lets make it mor tangible.

You saw what happened to the lakers and heat this season.

Take Kobe (superstar) out bring Rondo and Jose Johnson (stars) In.
Take lebron out bring Rudy Gay and Andrew Bogut (stars) in.

Rondo/Jose Johnson/Artest/Pau/Bynum
Bibby/wade/Gay/Bosh/Bogut.

tell me , Do we get a Lakers vs Heat finals and one of them winning it all or do mavs still win?

MTar786

tis makes no sense because 2nd options are opinonated.

in my eyes dwight is a second option. I cant see ANY team he is on winning if he is the first offensive option. His defense is what makes his teams better.
if he had kobe at the number one option they would win very often.
people need to remember. dwight is not shaq. he doesnt have that offensive presence that is unstoppable.

no, he said two good second options (Gasol and Ginoboli for example) and two good 3rd options (Parker and Bynum for example). And then a role player.

I had to re-read it as well haha

Depends on what you classify as a superstar. If Gasol or Love were the number one options, I would be surprised if they played at a superstar level. (Not just stats, but leading a team to the playoffs).

Gasol we know is a 2nd option. Love is 22, we don't know what he will be. But yes, even I, as his biggest fan, have monster doubts he is a #1 option on a perennial player team.

Lol. Then he mention "or" two superstars + three role players. I chose the team with the superstars. Like what other posters said, this thread is subjective to what you think is a superstar and a 2nd/3rd option.

Catfish1314

C-Andrew Bogut (3rd last season)
F-Al Horford (3rd last season)
F-Luol Deng (2nd last season)
G-Jason Kidd
G-Russell Westbrook (2nd last season)

Would be pretty sweet.

I think we can can define a 2nd or 3rd option on how their team uses them for the purposes of this thread. 2nd in either/both usage or shot attempts a game would qualify as 2nd option, no?

mmm gasol lead a BAD team to the playoffs three times.

it still makes him a BAD first option and the best second option since kobe and shaq split until lebron and wade joined.

I agree Gasol was a legit first option on a winning team. I can't classify him as a superstar though.

As streaky as Terry is, he is still a borderline 2nd option. He was definitely a 2nd option in the playoffs.

Based on what I saw from Dallas in the playoffs, I would actually call Marion a 3rd option and Kidd and Chandler 4th or 5th options. Marion was actually creating for himself in the playoffs.

PurpleJesus

give me the complete roster for sure...a team who knows there roles will prevail over a team that doesnt...ala miami vs dallas...on a team full of #2 and #3's, a #1 would prevail, an everyone else would fall in order.

Wade and Lebron is common knowledge that they will win a championship,

but

Nowitzki and Kidd prevailed.
