View Full Version : More Impressive Single Game Performance?

I've never seen this debated here so I thought I'd start a thread on it.

Which is the more impressive single game performance?

Kevin Love's 31 point 31 rebound game in a win against the Knicks last season.

or

David Lee's 37 point 20 rebound 10 assist game against the Warriors 2 years ago?

Basic comparison

Player MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
David Lee 45:47 14 24 .583 0 1 .000 9 10 .900 4 16 20 10 0 1 3 1 37
Kevin Love 40:39 11 26 .423 1 4 .250 8 10 .800 12 19 31 5 0 1 2 3 31

Advanced comparison

Player MP TS% eFG% ORB% DRB% TRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG% ORtg DRtg
David Lee 45:47 .651 .583 9.1 44.1 25.0 37.0 0.0 1.4 9.6 27.6 140 121
Kevin Love 40:39 .510 .442 28.9 44.9 37.0 19.0 0.0 1.9 6.2 30.8 124 96

Last person to have a 30 and 30 game was Moses Malone in 1981 and the last persons to put up a 35, 20 and 10 performance was Kareem and George McGinnis both in 1976.

Which one do you guys think was more impressive?

That's a tough one. Let me think about it longer and I'll vote.

really tough but i went with Love's 30&30. it's just unreal seeing that someone actual grabbed 30 boards in today's NBA. Lee's game was impressive too but I vote for Love

Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well. 30 rebounds in today's game is really hard to do so I'll go with that.

Same here. I want to see the arguments for either case before I cast my vote.

30 and 30 for me.. I think its pretty damn hard to grab 30 rebounds on any level, let alone NBA. And still put up 30 points??? That was sick to me...

But David Lee's performance was ridiculous too... But 30 boards is crazy in 2010.

I went with David Lee.

Really? So if a guy goes 40-40 it's inferior to 10-10-10?

I would to know how many assists kevin love had. But until then my vote goes to david lee

Took 30-30

Would love to see a player this year go 30-30 with points and assist this year !

I posted all the info you need in the OP. He had 5 assists.

31/31/5 is probably a more impressive statline than 37/20/10 but Lee was more efficient from the floor (14-24) compared to Love (11-26).. Wow, it really is close. I'm leaning towards Lee because of the offensive efficiency.

this is like asking who is hotter between Megan Fox and Jessica Alba. Both had unreal individual performances, so its personal preference.

I go with Love. First player to do that in 28 years, and I am also being biased due to being a Wolves fan

Love's team did win in his performance, while Lee's lost. Just thought I would throw it out there

Hmmm, well if we take a closer look -

Love's came against the Knicks - who were the 2nd fastest paced team in the league (to the Wolves) and the 3rd worst rebounding team in the league.

And David Lee's came against the 09/10 Warriors, who were easily the fastest paced team in the league, and 2nd worst defensively. Should probably be mentioned that David Lee's should not have been a triple double, either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs5TPniQtJ4

Close (and both aren't quite as impressive when you consider the pace/defensive/rebounding weakness of the competition. Still, amazing games), but given that the Knicks lose to the Warriors while K. Love led the Wolves to a rare win (over NYK), I'll give the overall performance nod to Love.

I gotta go with Love's 30-30. 30 rebounds in a single game is effing ridiculous and pretty rare, but to add over 30 points... wow! Triple doubles happen EVERY season.

BUT this hadn't happened in 28 years!

The GSW vs NYK game however was played at a higher pace than the NYK vs MIN game.

Love. Grabbing 30 boards is something special in today's nba. You can get 35 points or 20 rebounds, or 10 assists in a good day but grabbing 30 rebounds is something from another planet.

Good call. I didn't look at the pace for that game, but I did see that the score was monsterish for a non-OT game.

Morrow, Beasley and Galo (in the GS game) all beasted in these games too.

If love was the first to get 30-30 in 30 years is your reason, then you need to notice that Lee's feat wasnt accomplished for 35....

I went Lee becase of the overall performance, but i didnt realize that they lost that game until after... that might change my desicion.... either way, its awesome.

I'd have to go with Lee on the strength of the assist. For him to do what he did and drop ten dimes as a big man is pretty insane. They both were playing against garbage defensive teams so at the end of the day both stat lines are inflated but I'd still give the slight nudge to Lee......

IndyRealist

Tough call. Individual stats, I'd have to say Lee. He accounted for a larger percentage of the team's offense it seems, and was much more efficient.

On performance though, I'd have to go with Love. Willing that Wolves team to a win is nothing short of miraculous.

As pointed out by Tredigs- Lee did not actually get the triple double. The NBA was generous to Lee; that 10th assist was not an assist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs5TPniQtJ4

Probably David Lee's game, even though it was against the GSW defense.

This might be silly reasoning but I went with Love, because I feel that assists for a big are often pretty lucky, usually dependent on if players around him knock down shots from his passes. A couple of missed shots from Lee's passes here and a few makes from Love's passes and the assists would be a wash. Rebounds can be lucky too, but I think they involve more skill from a big man. I think the fact that Lee had a triple double kind of sensationalized his stat line. If he had 8-9 assists, I doubt this is an argument.

However, Lee was much more efficient...

I think I would need to watch both games to get an idea of just how much they dominated.

Technically he did have 9 assists.

Technically he did have 9 assists.

That's what it should say on the poll then.. Even though he officially had 10, right? To be honest I didn't rewatch either game after they happened.

Let's just say the 10th assist should have an * alongside it. He passed the ball to Gallo, Gallo up faked did a spin move and made the basket, essentially meaning he created the shot for himself and was not assisted on. It was logged as an assist so I would be wrong if I was to say he had 9.

Gotcha.

I guess the point of what I meant is that a 21-9 big man looks way worse than a 20-10 big, even though it's the same thing.
