View Full Version : Which sophomore will have a breakout year?

PacersForLife
07-05-2011, 10:21 PM
Paul George, Pacers
Greg Monroe, Pistons
John Wall, Wizards
Landry Fields, Knicks
Ed Davis, Raptors
Gordan Hayward, Jazz
Derrick Favors, Jazz
Evan Turner, 76ers
Demarcus Cousins, Kings
By breakout year I mean, vastly improve they're stats over last year's.

Mark my words, D. Cousins was tired all of last year, he was in no shape for the NBA, but still had an impact and put up 15 a game. He is going to have a tremendous year next year and may be considered a top 10 C/PF.

John Wall, allegedly his jump shot has improved leaps and bounds. Played in a pickup street game the other day(Cousins too) and put up 41. Cousins is just too immature and that will stall his development, hell in the pickup game he threw the ball out of the gym...

Cousins has to improve his shot selection. 48.4 TS% for a big is atrocious. I do see him becoming more efficient nonetheless.

My bad, I went ahead and added him to the list. I was thinking of they guys that got the most publicity last season.

Greg Monroe

I am a closet Pistons fan, and I freakin love Monroe. He will not make a crazy statistical jump, but I think he is a cornerstone. 17-8 next year with great passing

If I had to pick just one, it would be Paul George.

I'm really high on Greg Monroe, Jordan Crawford, and James Anderson as well though..

Anderson is the biggest stretch, but he had a stress fracture in his foot last season, and played with a screw in his foot the rest of the year after returning. San Antonio has a great track record with developing talent, and Anderson is a lights out shooter. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard his name a lot next season.

I like him also KG jr. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=monrogr01&y1=2011&p2=garneke01&y2=1996

I honestly think Monroe could be similar.

I can see alot of players making some jumps next season in all honesty.

Blake Griffin, John Wall, Ed Davis and Lance Stephenson.

Unlike the NBA I do not consider Blake Griffin to be a sophmore. He had an entire year to work with NBA personal, therefore, he was not a rookie. I'm sure many disagree though.

John Wall.

He will average 20 plus ppg. 9-10 Asts. Improved FG% and less turnovers. He will challenge for a Allstar spot.

Big if.

But he will break out and produce a ton if he can get 30mpg, he's been practicing a lot with his left hand lately.

How do you not put DMC on the list? People bash him for being immature and don't even watch him play, he's gotten in shape and will start to score way more efficiently with Jimmer, Thornton and Salmons stretching the defense for him. OP that's just foolish, DMC will be the best big man out of this draft class and that's not even me being a homer, anyone who's unbiasedly watched him play knows the same. You'll see.

John Wall is going to make that Rose like leap next year(not MVP). The only thing that kept him from doing so was injuries this year.

SeoulBeatz
07-06-2011, 02:30 AM
Evan Turner is going to quiet down all of that BUST talk.

He was the best rookie in the playoffs and stepped up while being our #1 scorer in 3 games against the Heat.

He can still be the next Brandon Roy.

Highlights aren't everything, but the guy has a tremendous amount of skill......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GIYjsP5Fyw

If Jrue and Evan can step it up next year (E.T averaged 13.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.2 apg/ Holiday 17.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 8.7 apg WITHOUT IGUODALA) this will be a backcourt to watch out for in the future.

John Wall.

He's gonna put up 20/11 next year and will be an all-star.

My 2nd pick: Cousins. He'll be a top big-man in the league by the end of next season assuming he'll adopt a changed and better attitude.

I'm going none homer with Ed Davis. He just lacked the minutes and was oft injured last season but his impact defensively was greater than that of any rookie in the league. I expect him to take things up a notch with his expected increase in playing time and possible starting position.

My homer pick is obviously Evan Turner. The strides he made to the end of last season leads one to believe that he should show stellar improvement next season and with the looming departure of Andre Iguodala he may just become our team's 2nd best player.

Paul George. He did a lot of things right while only getting like 20mins per game. He will likely see starter minutes as it seems the Pacers are trying to deal out Granger. Even if they don't, George will likely see a lot of time at the 2.

I would like to say Ed Davis, but I think he needs starter minutes in order to jump. He would likely be the sixth man on the Raptors behind Bargs and whatever center we might pursue.

Demarcus Cousins will also likely become something good in his sophmore year. He just needs to improve his shot selection (which will probably come with more experience) and stop fouling as much, and the Kings will have a monster in the Paint.

TChef02
07-06-2011, 10:57 AM
Wall will be great but I don't think his stats will get that much better outside of his shooting % because they were already pretty good last year.

Turner had a pretty rough rookie season and I think an offseason could give him some time to work out some of the kinks. Next year I'd expect him to have a much better year statistically.

idk how you cant put Wes Johnson on that list, look at what he did last year? He showed very good things, but was inconsistent, with having an offseason and knowing the game, on top of working alot with Kobe (Kobe has been praising him and saying he will be great), you have to think his stats will be one of the higher jumps of all of them.

If so things have looking good for the wolves. Rubio and Williams who I both expect to be impact rookies. The improvement of Wes, the continued development of Love. Trade Beasley for another piece if possible. Damn you must be getting a hard on as a fan!
