The offer means the often-injured 7-foot center becomes a restricted free agent. The Blazers can match any other offer made for him.

Very good move.... a healthy Greg Oden WILL make the Blazers favourites in the West. I really really really really wish that he could get himself in order health wise and really show the NBA what he can do. The league is starved for another good C.

I wonder what team will offer him that much/more!!!!!

Basically I see him taking that from the Blazers, but it is only 1 year

Must be nice to ride on team planes, stay at team hotels, and live the rich life while limping and doing nothing all along. 8.8 million? He'd be stupid to even think twice..

Whats the deal with Oden?? I haven't heard any info lately on how his rehab has been going?? I know that don't want to rush him back, but does it look like he'd be ready for training camp?? (if season starts on time)

I wish nothing but the best for this guy. Came into the league with people saying he could be the next great big man and he's been hugely unfortunate with injuries.

If he could get healthy and stay like that for a few seasons, he'll prove everyone who's been calling him a bust wrong.

8.8 mil for watching games.

This guy has it made. Gets the best seats to the game and gets paid millions to watch.

This is crazy.... I know he has potential or had, but we are in the middle or owners talking about over paying for players. and here we are with an owner offering 8.8 million.

If he could stay healthy, Portland would be one of the favourites out West

Portland didn't just decide that $8.8m is the right amount. It's the figure that has been built into his contract as his qualifying offer amount since the day he signed the contract, and is based on the rookie scale. The same way DRose is scheduled for a $9m qualifying offer next year.

It was either $8.8m or no qualifying offer, in which case they lose the right to match a contract offered by another team. Given they aren't close to having any cap room anyway, this was the right move.

No, it isn't nice. The man has had to deal with how many crippling injuries and the surgeries and rehabilitation that followed?

I'm sure he'd play for half that, or less, if it meant he could stay healthy.

That is a lot of money for someone who has missed a ton of games. He will be a trail blazer next season.

Yea I get it bro. Just meant he shouldn't even hesitate on taking that contract and Portland made the right decision giving him one more year. His upside is tremendous and could be the anchor that defense has been missing.

When healthy, the guy has been dominant. Granted the sample size might not be that large, but the dominance and potential is there. If only he could stay healthy... :sigh:

Doctors Drilled holes in both his knee-Caps (Thats how Microfracture srugery works) Good luck Oden

I honestly think the blazers are offering him that much and for 1 year so that they can trade his expiring contract for a solid player. An 8.8 Mil expiring can get you a solid player. This is smart IMO. Oden can be the center they want and if not, then a great expiring contract. Nice.

The year he played 21 games he showed signs of studness. Who knows now though. Sad on the ownerships part however there trying to get rid of Roy and offer Oden this . . .

It's a lot of money I didn't expect them to try to keep him.

But it just goes to show how badly teams want legit 7 footers.

WOW.. Makes sense from a strategic standpoint, but he is not worth any where near 8.8mill for next season. MAYBE worth half that

8.8 for a C with no knees...brilliant!!

Wow! Has Portand lost their idiotic minds? Oden has been injury prone most of his career and he gets $8.8 million offer? LOL :laugh2: They should be worried about replacing Roy who doesn't have much time left. Way to go Blazers. They'll keep him cus someone will offer him much less and they'll match.

I hope Spurs offer 3year MLE contract, chance for Oden to learn from the great Duncan, could be amazing

But god damn I mean aren't owners mad becuz players are making 2 much money? And rite here we have Portland overpaying Oden almost $9m for playing 20 games....

Jetsguy
06-30-2011, 03:10 PM
hey why not, he is only like 6 years old even though he looks 60 and is as fragile as an 80 year old...Benjamin Button Disease

phoenix_bladen
06-30-2011, 03:21 PM
well it makes sense

they invested so much in oden so who cares about the extra year?

yes they're definitely overpaying them but if they did not offer him the QFA they wouldn't have the ability to match any offer teams throw at him

this is just insurance in case any teams want to snatch oden up for cheap

the reason why he's getting 8.8 million is because he was the 1st pick of the 2007 draft the higher you are the more money you get

Hahaha...

There are a ******** amount of overpayed big men in this league...

Kaman, Okur, Haywood, Brand, Dalembert among others...

Oden has more talent then all of them... I'd give him a 3 or 4 year contract for 10MM a year...

The risk is way worth the reward....

Can you imagine stealing a center more talented than Dwight Howard for less than half of what Dwight makes ???

Crackadalic
06-30-2011, 06:41 PM
Thats how much his QO is anyway so idk why people are complaining about Portland paying him that much. Its all base on him being a number one pick a couple of years ago and his rookie scale the last 4 years

No I don't think he's worth but his potential probably is. He just had two freak injuries. If it doesnt pan out in one year then let him walk

ULT WARRIOR408

I'd be done with him if I were Portland. But on the flipside Oden better take it & feel lucky he even got that.

06-30-2011, 07:20 PM
Several teams will offer 3 year deal 5-8 mil per they will have to match or see him walk

ULT WARRIOR408
06-30-2011, 07:30 PM
^^Oh I beg to differ but if you are right(which I highly doubt you are)than the Blazer shouldn't match it.He ain't worth it imo.

I see him getting 1 year deals,2 year deals or 2 year deals with a 1 year option from other teams.

I think a Sign-and-Trade will be worked out between the Blazers and another team for Oden...

Aint nobody gonna give up anything in a trade for an injury-pron what looks to be a bust.

I agree his career is not over yet & he'll draw interests from other teams. He'll get contract offers but aint no way in hell a sign-n-trade deal involving him is gonna happen.
