Kobe Bryant, Chauncey Billups, and Paul Pierce all immediately come to mind. There are a lot of big names i didn't mention, but i want to see what PSD thinks.

So who is the best pull-up jumpshooter in the NBA?

If this thread has any legs, Mods can feel free to add a poll. (i don't know how to LOL)

Also - PSDs stat gurus, (you know who you are) please feel free to post the numbers and your analysis on the subject. THANKS. :)

Billups.

He pulls up on the break and wets 'em all game.

Crawford is also a good guy in this area you didn't already mention.

Well played. When he wants to get his jumper off, nobody can stop him.

yeah good point i misunderstood the question at first. nash definately fits the bill here though. its awesome watching him run down the court with the ball then just pull up for a quick shot.

Are in your face, 3pt shots in isolation considered pull up jumpers because thats the only stat I can think of to measure such a scenario.

Epic fail on your part. Billups barely played due to injury. he played well in the time he was given. Even if that wasn't the case, this thread isn't entitled best pull-up shooter in the 2011 first round of the playoffs. or best pull-up shooter after the 'Melo trade.

Ok well the sample size should be small since most NBA players make it a habbit not to settle for these kind of shots so the results can be flukish but heres how the players you listed + a few others fare in those situations.

Isolation 3's
Kobe: (36/118) 30.5%
Pierce: (8/21) 38.1%
Billups: (28/63) 44.4%
LeBron: (26/78) 33.3%
Monta: (21/52) 40.4%
Nash: (4/15) 26.7%
Crawford: (15/47) 31.9%

3's off the PnR
Kobe: (15/51) 29.4%
Pierce: (6/17) 35.3%
Billups: (25/73) 34.2%
LeBron: (25/71) 35.2%
Monta: (25/64) 39.1%
Nash: (44/108) 40.7%
Crawford: (17/55) 30.9%

Pierce used to take alot more off the dribble 3's but since the Big3 era his pull up jumpers have been comprised mostly of mid range shots. You can probably mine through the data to include mid range pullups but thats much more work than separating 3's.

Monta is a ****ing weirdo, he shoots a slightly higher % off the dribble than he does when hes wide ****ing open. Hes pretty consistent tho, he only shoots a low% from 3 when hes coming off screens or when hes fed off of a hand off. But I guess thats better than having the VC problem of being a great set shooter but wont stop taking off balance shots.

You never disappoint, Chronz. i'm not surprised at all to see Billups at the top of the iso 3pt list. He's one of those bad shot shooters, if he has a half inch to get it off, you know there is always a good chance of it falling.

When i posted Pierce as an option, i fully had in mind that his pull-ups come midrange at the elbow. His shot from there seems automatic to me.

The Monta - VC compare and contrast is pretty interesting, too. Polar opposite results with the same shot selection. Both are "****ing wierdos." To be honest, i'm really surprised and kind of impressed by Monta, here.
