I agree with you...I think wallace is a better scorer but Kwahi is a much better rebounder. Plus he was rumored to go as high as 5th is this drive, he has top five talent. And he works ridiculously hard, plus has a chip on his shoulder. he wasnt recruited very highly and his dad was murdered when he was in high school. he plays with passion.

I thought Hill was the reason they were shopping Parker???

They weren't shopping Parker, they were getting calls and talking about trades. They were seeing if they could get a late lottery pick for Hill, and all the Parker news might have been a smokescreen to keep other teams off the trail of Leonard.

Hill isn't so good that Parker is expendable. Hill is a solid player, and a high character guy with a good work ethic. His ceiling isn't much higher than what he's shown though. Good ability to finish at the rim, average to below average passing skills, and shoots the corner three well, but a bit inconsistently. Good piece, but not a guy you build around. That's why the Spurs can afford to trade him right now.

TRF929

Spurs are one of the best in drafting players, whether its lottery (Duncan, Robinson) late round (Parker, Hill) or 2nd round (Blair, Ginobili).

I'll take their wisdom over anyone here or the analysts

That's what I was thinking when I saw the ESPN guys' reactions. Looked exactly like the reaction when they picked George Hill 3 years ago.

Love this trade for my Spurs. There was no way we could get rid of Parker unless it was for a proven solid big man to play next to Duncan. If that was the case, we would have to revert back to playing an nonathletic point who was simply in to run the offense. George Hill was never going to be able to step in at starting PG if Parker was shipped out, and therefore he became the one who was truly expendable. Getting this beast in Leonard, proven or not is most definitely the right step to take here. Especially since almost all the trade talk I saw surrounding Parker didn't include a star big man(Which is the only thing I feel we should trade Parker for).

Another thing to point out about Hill is he rarely played PG, when he was in Ginobili moved to the point and ran the offense. I liked Hill and all, but he wasnt the future. I would of liked trading Parker just because I knew the only way it was going to happen was if RJ was attached, leaving us with cap space for when Dwight Howard comes (my little pipe dream).

Anyways it was a good trade from everything I hear about this guy, hearing he plays like Gerald Wallace got me really excited.

You're dead on about Hill. Without Ginobili and Parker on the floor, the offense staggered when Hill was the PG. He's not a great passer and turns the ball over when under pressure. I don't think he'll ever be more than a good scoring option off the bench to be honest.

I wish they could just buyout RJ's contract because all he is going to do is eat minutes from Leonard. Can't see RJ staying on another 3 seasons while Leonard rocks the bench.

TRF929
06-24-2011, 01:00 AM
Also have to remember Spurs drafted James Anderson last year. He was injured all season, but hows the minutes going to workout with RJ, Anderson and now Leonard?

Hope RJ is off the team one way or another, just except our loses in RJ and let em go.

Was a good trade for the Spurs. As much as I liked Hill, it was the right thing to do. Hill's contract would be up after this next year and he would be demanding some decent money. No point in paying a guy good money to continually come off the bench. That and he couldn't run our team. People can think what they want, but whenever Hill was playing, either TP or Manu were the PG, not Hill. Plus we are pretty good at SG. Manu/Neal/Anderson, Hill was definitely expendable.

Spurs were able to trade a guy who they drafted at 26 for the 15th pick, (which is a guy the Spurs desperately need), the 42nd pick to get a guy who they really like, and keep the 29th pick to get a backup PG like well need? Win

Im a big Hill fan, sad to see him go...but don't overrate him. Business wise I would do this 10 outta 10 times.

Not to mention that point guard they drafted is a perfect fit for the Spurs system. Good defender, good size, and can bust it down the floor. Just needs some time to develop, which he can do behind Tony Parker. Great trade and a good draft by the Spurs. Still need to address their power forward/center situation though.... maybe we should hope for a lockout after all. :p
