MIAMI— Zydrunas Ilgauskas has decided to cash in instead of cash out.

The 36-year-old center Wednesday informed the Heat that he will pick up his $1.4 million player option for next season. Ilgauskas had spoken in recent weeks of retiring.

The Heat still are awaiting player-option decisions from forward James Jones and guard Eddie House. Beyond Ilgauskas, Anthony and Pittman, already under contract to the Heat for next season are James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller.

Heat will have space to add 3 more players this offseason. Including the #31 Pick, and a MLE to use on 1 player if not split it on 2 players.

Fun Fact: Zydrunas Ilgauskas has made $124.5 Million in his NBA career

He is just milking the situation....Doesn't have to work, but gets paid and has a chance for a ring. Plus he probably doesn't want to go back to Poland or wherever he is from and sit at home with his old lady. :)

I think both House and Jones will stay as well.

I wonder if Jones is upset at not playing much in the Finals. He's still a Florida guy though.

Most likely that will be the situation. Big Z probably will only play 1/2 of their games this season and sit the Playoffs out.

Z is also 7'3. But anyways, i dont blame him, get paid, and has his best chance to win a ring with miami before he retires.

I've always had love for Big Z. He had some difficult foot injuries at the beginning of his career and has managed to overcome that to have a solid career. A 7'3 guy that can shoot like him is a rarity.. The only other guys I can think of at his height with a similar touch from mid-range is Yao and Sabonis.

Classy guy.. I hope he manages to get a ring before he retires.

he is desperate for a ring.

How does this make him desperate? He's worked hard his entire career, hes embraced different roles for the sucess of his team. You dont know how hard people get to where they are in life. Hes living his dream of being the nba, dont you think he wants the satisfication knowing he won an NBA championship?

Right but why the hell does Big Z have an option to do anything basketball related? What GM agreed to give him a deal with an option? Whoever it is

I believe that Miami will make a statement next year. They will probably win something like 20 games in a row, and have the best record in the NBA. James or Wade will most likely win MVP. But with Z, Howard, and Anthony picking up their options, taking up that much more of Miami's cap space, not allowing them to do much of anything in FA, I can't see them winning the Finals next year either. Especially now that it looks like Chalmers is gone.

I checked ESPN, but I don't see any specials with this announcement.

Seriously.....not sure why this oaf re-upping is main forum worthy. Wonder how quickly it would be moved if the 10th man on Toronto or Golden State picked up their option and it was posted.
