"I don't know if I would join some champion team in the future," the China Daily quoted him as saying when asked about leaving a new-look Rockets team.

"I don't even know if I can play again."

I'll def be rooting for Yao to make a come back, but I won't be holding my breath, some bodies just aren't built for the NBA. Yao hasn't been healthy since he's got here, I doubt that will change anytime soon.

Yao was a beast. It was nice to see a Center with that kind of touch.

I'd still take a chance on Yao, I mean you really only want him for the playoffs where it matters. I'd rather gamble on him than Greg Oden that's for sure.

oh well... he had a pretty damn good career regardless. surprised he even lasted this long tbh ppl as big as him can barely walk well let a lone play 500 games of NBA basketball and be a multiple all star.

If he could come back, Yao should reunite with TMac and JVG on the Knicks.

really sad though.

I feel the same way. Not really a suprise but I feel bad for the guy. He's a great player and I hope we can see him back on the court soon.

Seems to me like Yao is aiming to play..

Rockets center Yao Ming, whose career is in doubt after another injury-shortened season, is thinking comeback, and he thanks his one-year old daughter, Amy, for that.

"She is definitely a big motivation for me to continue my role as a player, although my foot still needs lots of treatment to meet the game's demands," Yao told Chinese state television, according to the China Daily.

"I wish she could watch me play and even win a championship as she grows up and not only see through video highlights how her dad played before."

He should join a contender... its not like he would even have to play (Look at some of the people on some teams benches).

"A championship ring has become not so important in my plans," Yao said. "My main thought for the next 10 years is to look after my family and continue my community activities."

At least he has pride and dignity.

this doesn't surprise me at all. Yao's feet just can't hold up. I was more surprised when I heard he wanted to come back. It sucks too cause yao was a beast when he was healthy. Its scary to think what might have been if not for injuries.

I'm sure some team is willing to sign Yao, even for a little bit more than the minimum.

Unfortunate for Yao. He's a great competitor and a great citizen on top of being an NBA star without the injuries. I hope to see him join a contender next season so he has a shot at winning a title. His best bet would be going to Miami.

I hope Yao retires. If he comes back again, and breaks down again, it will be very difficult for him to get around as a 50-70 year old guy.

Get out while you can still walk around and enjoy your life Yao.

Man he was so fun to watch. Even when he was killing the Lakers in the Rockets series a couple years ago. Sad to see him go. He should just focus on staying healthy and living out life being one of the most well known people in the world :)

Man it is amazing that the Rockets were cursed with 2 top 10 players that could never stay healthy together in any season.
