I will remember Shaq first and foremost for his off-court personality. He was larger than life and always did as much as he could off the court.

Examples:
1. Reality TV
2. Platinum Album
3. Cover of many video games
4. Acting
5. Law Enforcement
6. MMA Training

He was more than just a player. He was an icon and one of the most recognizable sports athletes ever.

Absolute agree. By the end, he was just some cool @$$ guy playing basketball.

Having sex with Gil's baby mama is in the top 3 "lasting images".

Breaking the backboard is one and also that terrible tv show of his (shaq vs).

Elbowing Dikembe Mutombo in the face throughout the entire 2001 NBA Finals and never being called for an offensive foul. Maybe if Deke flopped the way most guys do today *cough* Pau *cough* Lebron *cough*, then the Sixers would've won.

"Bryant, TO SHAQ!" -Bob Costas.

Well done OP, that was what I was going to write before even seeing the poll. Big fella dominating the league in LA is how he should be remembered. The 28-29-30 year old version of Shaq is the starting center on my all-time NBA team.

The oop versus portland was the coming out party. I know they replay it ALL THE TIME but it was always in my mind from watching it live when I was 13. That moment was soooo cool and I hate the Lakers.

When I first joined the forum I searched for a long time for a still-frame photo of the Bryant-to-Shaq alley-oop but could never find a good enough quality one/with the correct angle; for my SIG.

Seeing him run down the court like a kid afterward was priceless.

x2. That's how I'll remember him.

As a Laker fan born in the mid/late 80's, that moment against Portland will always represent the first time I ever saw the team achieve success (live).

Being a guy that even on his Final year could have swung the title, he was so impressive in his limited minutes that it factored into a title contender trading their starting center.

If he wouldve made it back he would have given the C's exactly what they needed.

The first thing that I think of is the alley-oop in Game 7 of the 2000 WCFs. I remember that like it was yesterday. I remember my whole family left the room when they were down by 15 and I was the only one that stayed and watched the comeback :D

My last memory of Shaq will be of him jumping from team to team trying to piggy back his way to a 5th ring.

If he's 2 inches to the left......Shaq is dead and we'd only be left with, what if's?

Another lasting image of Shaq is how he outplayed/owned Patrick Ewing in the 90's. Why did you do this to me? I was just starting to get over that!

Deserves a lot more respect than he got. He had some issues with his ego but probably the most lovable guy in the game. I still remember that Punk'd episode where he was about to go Hulk on some dudes.

Kobe's killer cross that absolutely shook one of the greatest defenders of all-time, leading to Shaq's ridiculous dunk (see how high he got?!). Absolutely amazing play, by quite possibly the greatest guard/center combo ever.
