I also believe so. I am hoping more for Jason Kidd than for Dirk.

I think it is, I don't think this dallas team can contend as it stands for much longer. Unless he makes a move to another city this may be it. I do not think he will so, make this count dirk.

I think they have a 3 year window, this year and the next 2.

Yea it likely is although I would still consider them "contenders" next season wether they win the championship or not but I think this is it unless the Mavs can get DWill or Dwight in next years FA

I do believe this is their last chance. I do they next year they will still be better than both LA and San Antonio. However, I think OKC will be the next big thing to come out of the West, and IMO if other West teams dont get better fast, I think OKC will begin to dominate the West like the Lakers did the 3 previous years.

I thought the Grizz were the next big thing to come out the west.

Unlike the Bulls, the Mavericks have yet to be eliminated.

It probably is their last best chance if that makes any sense, but as long as Dirk's still playing at this level they'll always have a shot.

Like someone else mentioned, I'd love to see Kidd win one as well as Dirk.

I didn't realize that was the distinction, so we're not allowed to talk about any NBA team in the NBA forum except for the Heat and the Mavericks?

I don't think thats an actual rule, its just some bull crap that regular posters made up

With Mark Cuban we dont know who will be on the team

We might get a young superstar or all star who knows

Especially with Howard and D Will's interest in Mavericks

we all probably thought this after the 06 finals too

Perhaps it's not a rule, but at least it's an intelligible distinction.

I would say not because Cuban won't allow it to happen. If Dirk has 3 years left in the tank, then Cuban will make sure this team is a contender for all 3 years.

This is totally it. Dirk is getting up there as well as many in his supporting cast.

LTBaByyy

If the Mavs win, I see young All Stars having more interest in the Mavs and replacing the old guys

Or even a couple superstars having more interest

the mavs are gonna be contenders for 2 more years or so with this current group i think. but its probably their last best chance since they are in the finals now and injury free pretty much which doesn't always happen when you're an older team.

I think they'll contend in the west but it looks like Miami and Chicago are about to be the new NBA super powers. So unless Dallas gets Dwight Howard, they are going to have a really hard time doing anything more than competing with the west.

+1... I really only believe we have a 2 year window. This year and next and that could be it. I believe Dirk will make this one count though. We've come too far to turn back now... We'll win this series in 6 in Miraculous fashion. You heard it here first:clap:

It's probably their last.

Mark Cuban is a great owner, and I doubt he lets this team go back into mediocrity after this year. Dirk looks like he's getting with age, and as long as he is still going, the Mavs will always be title contenders. They have some guys coming off the books after this year though, Tyson especially. They need to get him resigned for sure, and I think they will. Chandler looks like he belongs there. He's made a huge impact for them.

Not last opportunity but really good chance to win this year. :)

not with the aging Kidd at the point. he can't stay in front of opposing PGs or SGs and that will break down the defense

I want Jason Kidd to have a ring.

IMO dirk is no way near his decline. They keep chandler, JJ and maybe even marion, they will still be able to make a couple more runs at this.

JasonJohnHorn
05-31-2011, 11:47 AM
Chandler is in his prime. They have guys who still have a few years (Marion, Peja, Terry, Barea, Butler, Haywood) and the only position they'd need to fill is PG, and they can do that with the MLE, a trade or the vet min.

MrfadeawayJB
05-31-2011, 12:00 PM
I think it may be near the end of championship runs for dirk. LA will go after Howard, young teams in the west like Memphis, OKC, Denver, LAC , etc will only get better

KnicksR4Real

3 years

Baller1
05-31-2011, 12:15 PM
Well if they don't make any significant moves, then I feel like this is their last chance. They have the ability (and the owner) however, to make a big move and open their window for contention up.

With Caron back the Mavs will be even more versatile

Plus if Roddy comes back healthy

So I say 3 years for the current group BUT much longer if Cuban makes another blockbuster trade

It's amazing with Butler out and Beabuois that they are doing this well.

I think this is their last chance, they're actually an older team than the Lakers. What is more important though is their free agents:

Butler
Barea
Chandler
Peja
Stevenson

This team was tied with the Lakers for top salary, but the problem is Barea and Chandler will get big offers from other teams. What kills the Mavs is Haywood's contract, it's absolutely huge. Then you have to ask yourself how good Kidd will be, I think he can still play, but his age is creeping up. On top of that they have nobody that teams want in a deal... Beaubois maybe, but he still isn't worth much. Guy hasn't proved anything in this league, and is injury prone. He's young and he'll improve, but right now his value isn't high and his low salary makes him difficult to trade for a great player

DMasta718

Would this be their last chance? I don't think so. They would still have Roddy and Butler and I'm sure the Mavs will try to keep Chandler.

If they don't make no huge trades, then I see next year as their last chance.

I think it depends on alot of what happens with player movement in the next few years. Should Dirk and his team of role players beat the Heat, it owuld mean alot for the NBA. It would keep the "we can win building around one superstar mentality going." Where as if the Mavericks lose I think the NBA superteam era will launch and will be looking at the samed 3 or 4 teams competing every year.

LA_Raiders
05-31-2011, 02:55 PM
it might be, may be next year too. But with all these super team, they better get another allstar to compete

It will be Mavs and Thunder who fight it out in the West next year. Maybe the Lakers (I never doubt Kobe).
